Nothing that changes compatibility. I'll see if I can dig up a feature list but if your expecting some magical increase in compatibility from 2.6 -> 3.0 then no. There is none.

NVidia about to take what looks to be a BIG lead again...
DosFreak replied to sapiens74's topic in Hardware
Answer me one thing: Who in the world is going to be running Doom 3 with an ATI 9700/9800 and a Geforce FX 5900 at MEDIUM QUALITY? heh. Definetly not me. 2D is still inferior Noise rating is still inferior. Ansio/AA are still inferior. Driver quality as compared to Nvidia is debateable.... Definetly not a card for me...and I also think that I'll "punish" Nvidia for releasing the 5800 by not buying the 5900. heh. -
Hmmm, not familiar with the MAC ver. Try asking around over at the ScummVM forums.

Another solution would be to block the windowsupdate site at your firewall. They could find updates elsewhere but at least the easiest to hit site for updates will be unavailable.

2003's NTVDM seems to mess up SFX as compared to XP. VDMSound has the same problem in 2003. Still trying to narrow it down but I'm in the process of moving so hopefully someone else on the VOGONS team will figure it out before I get done moving. DosBox is the best solution anyway. I am currently up[censored] my NT Game Compatibility list to display DosBox as the best choice for REAL mode gaming in NT4/2000/XP/2003. We've recently enabled preliminary protected mode support in the CVS so with a bit of luck we should have operational protected mode gaming in DOSBOX in less than 6 months!

Yeah, Any prog can set a .log whereever it wants so that's your best option.

Are you running the command from the command line or from the start button? Also....mun a chkdsk on the C: and see if your using 512 byte clusters. You probably are....

Java is the only difference. If you'd like to check for yourself you can download both versions and perform a windiff to check.

Hmmm, your probably running into the copy protection. Try www.gamecopyworld.com for a CD crack.

SP4 is in beta. As for getting it to work.... The most common issues with SS2 are: Not being patched to latest version. Running SS2 on a dual CPU system may require setting affinity to a single processor. Installation error that requires usage of -LGNTFORCE switch. Your problem sounds like either a video driver problem or mabye the Intel Video Codec? But your videos run fine so that's probly not it....

Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0
DosFreak replied to Titanus's topic in Everything New Technology
Simply, Uninstall 3.0. Install 2.6 Copy qfixapp.exe from 2.6 to somewhere on your system. Uninstall 2.6 Install 3.0 or if you have an .MSI editor you could extract qfixapp.exe from 2.6. -
windows 2003 server no support for older hardware???

If nothing else I'm looking forward to IIS BSOD's in 2003! hahahahah! -
Well the problem with PE is that many of the API's have been ripped out so that most WIN32 programs do not work. Take Ghost for instance. It won't work with PE. So you'll have to get a PE compatible program that performs the same function. PowerQuest came out with the Deployment Toolkit or somesuch about a month or 2 ago but I haven't got my hands on it. There was also a freeware programs call DrvImageXPPE but that has been discontinued. It works pretty well tho. I've been working on getting around to booting with PE and backing up to my External USB/1394 drive's but I've been too busy. Using this scenario then you'd be able to backup your entire HD to your USB/1394 enclosure without the limitations and hardships of floppy booting and CDR's...plus PE would be much more compatible with different configurations.

I don't have the retail ver of 2003 yet but I heard that it comes in the box with it. You can also aquire Windows PE when buying OEM equipment. or if you buy ERD Commander 2002 then it is based off of Windows PE plus you get the ERD Commander tools.

The: What Computer Part did you buy this week thread
DosFreak replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
Got my AIW 9700 Pro Last night. Plugged it in real quick, installed the software from the CD and the latest drivers from the net. Hit TV, Hit Scan. Software found all available channels and automagically had them tuned. Channels looked as good as on the TV if not better. YAY! I then went to sleep and then to work. Hopefully can play tonight. -

windows 2003 server no support for older hardware???
DosFreak replied to Tomay's topic in Everything New Technology
Or you could upgrade to *nix. There's really no reason for an OS to drop support for hardware that could still be used in the computer's of today. Just install *nix and use it all! -
Chec out http://vogons.zetafleet.com testing on this game has been done there....IIRC, It's best to run this game under DOS.
-
Ah your probably referring to SFX. (I forget about it since it's usually the hardest to troubleshoot in terms of perfect quality) There's really no way at the present time to get perfect SFX except to boot into DOS mode. You can spend forever trying to tweak VDMSound to get perfect SFX or you can simply boot into DOS and just play the game. Someday either the source code will be released or an emulator (such as DosBox) will support protected mode and proper sound support to play the game properly.

windows 2003 server no support for older hardware???
DosFreak replied to Tomay's topic in Everything New Technology
You could try using your 2000/XP drivers but of course they would not be certified for 2003. -
Nope. The closest "port" is Vavoom but it's hardly complete for Strife support. This is because the Strife source code has not been released. What's your problem with strife? If your playing it under Windows XP then it should work fine.
