Err...the onboard NICS in the Nforce are 100. His GIGABIT NIC is of course much faster which is why he's using it. I'd be using my Gig NIC but I don't have my second computer up.
-
Rhose are his initials.

The integrated NICS in the A7N8X are fine. I only use the 3Com because it's 3com. Dunno how well the Nvidia one performs....

Ignorance mostly. Friends talk and friends listen. Unfortunately unless your really in-depth with this stuff then you really cannot know. How could you? Most people don't have the time/need to sit for hours at a PC and test compatibility to prove a point. MS say's that XP is the successor of ME to Gaming. Since the consumers come from ME to XP and see how much better it is (Who wouldn't after coming from ME?) then they automatically assume that since Windows 2000 is older than Windows XP then it must be crap compared to Windows XP. Not realizing that just because something is the latest and greatest doesn't necessarily mean that it is the latest and greatest. Just look at my NT Game Compatibility list. There's your answer right there as far as Game Compatibility is concerned. As far as desktop stability, level of usability upon OS release, optimial desktop layout for actual computer use....that isn't shown in my list but I wish I could write up an actual article to provide actual proof of which OS is "better"....but whatdoIknow. Nothing obviously.
-
Why? Do you have any software that requires DX9?
-
Not sure if the game is protected more or not. I doubt it. Try DosBox and see if that works for you.
-
UpdateExpert. Remember to test the patches first. Never know what they actually are until you test them.

That's when you know that your really 733t. When you hack using Quake. Darn, guess I'm not there yet. ;(

You'll still have to use Task Scheduler even if your write a VB script.

.MSI's are easy to edit although not as easy to understand as a script or a .BAT. I use the Wise Installer from Installshield to troubleshoot my .MSI's. I still haven't quite got the hand of creating .MSI's tho. Need to sit down and play around with it.
-
Hmmm, don't have the PC game but it does work alright using EPSX and my original PS1 CD.
-
I've been checking out the Symantec Client Firewall that came with my NAV CE 8 package. It's pretty nice. I just wish it supported Server.
-
Ah, it's the .MSI Installer's that are eating up the space. Actuall program is very small.
-
Yup, me too. The first thing I noted was that this package sure is big for such a simple function.....Must be .NET.
-
Are these DOS Games? (Don't have time to check on the net right now.)
-
Windows 2003 Enterprise Server DOESN'T SUPPORT INFRARED!!!
DosFreak replied to imperia's topic in Hardware
That is some weird....stuff. Any explanation as to why? -
You can also play old DOS Games using DosBox. (Doesn't support protected mode games....so basically any game before 1993 should be fine)

XP or 2K- Ok now which to you like?

http://www.snort.org/ Quote: DESCRIPTION Snort is an open source network intrusion detection system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis and content searching/matching in order to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more. Snort uses a flexible rules language to describe traffic that it should collect or pass, as well as a detection engine that utilizes a modular plugin architecture. Snort has a real- time alerting capability as well, incorporating alerting mechanisms for syslog, user specified files, a UNIX socket, or WinPopup messages to Windows clients using Samba's smbclient. Snort has three primary functional modes. It can be used as a straight packet sniffer like tcpdump(1), a packet logger (useful for network traffic debugging, etc), or as a full blown network intrusion detection system. Snort logs packets to many formats, including tcpdump(1) binary format or Snort's decoded ASCII format to a hierarcical set of directories that are named based on the IP address of the remote host. Plugins allow the detection and reporting subsystems to be extended. Available plugins include database or XML logging, small fragment detection, portscan detection, and HTTP URI normalization, IP defragmentation, TCP stream reassembly and statistical anomaly detection. Be sure to grab the frontend: IDSCENTER http://www.packx.net/packx/html/en/index-en.htm Going to go have some fun now!

I don't know....working for "The Enemy". I'd probably be looking over my shoulder every day. I know some people who hate MS more so than the military. I guess I'd feel kinda dirty to work at MS. But hey money is money.....

Is WinXp gaming performance THAT much better than Win2k?
DosFreak replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: (I guess the REAL issue for me @ least, was ability & compatibility... it's just better/stronger outta-the-box in XP vs. 2k WITHOUT fiddling around to make stuff work!) APK That's exactly how I feel about 2k. better/stronger outta-the-box WITHOUT fiddling around to make the OS work! In response to the Topic question. The ONLY difference between 2k vs XP is if gaming is done with JUST the drivers that come with 2K and just the drivers that come with XP. Then you may see XP come ahead. Simply because XP has updated drivers that MS chooses not to update for 2K. But really what gamer uses default Windows drivers? IIRC, web site benchmarks have shown XP marginally slower than 2K due to the extra junk but there's really nothing to get in a hissy fit about. Geez people. DUAL-BOOT! It's the best of both worlds. When XP craps out on me (which it does) then I boot into 2K. When 2k craps out (which it does) then I boot into NT4. When NT4 craps out.....uhhh....yeah right. Then I boot into whatever beta OS I currently have loaded. If your a REAL PC gamer then you've gotta dual-boot between 9x and NT anyways so you may as well dual-boot 2K and XP as well. -
Just heard that the new Radeon reviews just came out. Going to check those out. Seeing as how the new FX's have tanked it looks like another season of ATIness. This is just soooo wrong. Poor, Poor Nvidia. (For gaming enthusiasts anyway....well the smart ones at least. )

Fix for what? They run fine over here. Could you post the error?
