Exactly. You'd think it would be obvious. Like "Don't touch that hot stove!". But unfortunately when people see something that someone else has used they immediately wonder why they aren't using it and jump on the bandwagon without researching. They are not from ATI's site not are they WHQL. Which should be enough for most people right there, but I suppose a blurb about drivers not being officially released by their respective companies should be posted whenever a driver post is posted, that would at least keep the blame off of NTCompatible's backs.

Don't have the game but if it is dependant upon previous DX versions then placing the older DX files in the MOO directory may work.
-
If it's not on the ATI site...then DON'T DOWNLOAD IT. That's the method you should be using. For those of use that have been doing this for awhile we appreciate the posting of leaked drivers so that we can actually get drivers that work for us. We are used to ATI's driver policy of the past which is to release crappy drivers and to releae them few and far between. So we take every driver leak we can get....just in case.

I used the Riven executable from the Riven CD version and it worked fine for me. Also if you run Riven on a dual processor machine you'll need to set the affinity to 1.

heh. Recently I sent out an email at work asking for people to send me the emails. I then block it on the email server. What's great about this is that I can then take the list home and use it for my benefit too. Ever since I started doing this the Spam cut down considerably from around 20-25 a day to about 1 a week. Muahahahahha!

Would there be a possibility to somehow use the information from mobygames or to somehow integrate the information? I suppose the simplest method would be to offer a method for when clicking on a game on NT Compatible that it would link to the game at mobygames.com. That would be pretty neat, but even better would be to have a full database of all working/non working games from NT Compatible along with all of the information at Mobygames for PC Games on one whole list. So I was just wondering if any sort of collaboration with mobygames would be possible?

Hey and I thought you loved old games APK! www.mobygames.com - A Database of all types of Game related material.

It's likely an M$ attempt to force users not to use FAT32 most likely....it's amazing that they even allow partitions created with FDISK that are greater than 32gb to be used in 2K/XP. I guess they HAD to do this since Dell,Compaq, etc etc format their disks with one HUGE partition with FAT32 back when 98/ME/2K was released.

Never used XP Home (Except for a VERY early beta) so I dunno. XP Home & Pro are from the same build so it should be possible to splice & dice some files...if I had Home I'd check it out for ya. I'll see if I can grab a copy from work (Some Dell's at work came with copies of Home. ;( )

Well.... BG1 and 2 BG1 is quite a bit uglier and slower than BG2. So after playing games on the BG2 engine you'll have to have a STRONG force of will to player BG1 over the newer RPG's. I'd recommend playing BG1 only if your not overflowing with games or if you have a crappy laptop. Anyways both games are 2 of the best RPG's of all time. Neverwinter Nights- Excellent graphics, the singleplayer is not as refined nor as good as BG1 or 2 but it's still worth playing. The MODS are what make this game good, anyways the singleplayer is worth playing. Morrowind - An RPG in First/3rd person, HUGE game world like all Bethesda RPG's. Takes alot of time to get into and ALOT of Mod's to make this game worthwhile. Dungeon Seige - Diablo + BG. Basically RPG's for Dummies which really isn't a bad thing but it does get boring and repetitive. If Diablo was too little for ya and BG/NWN is too much then Dungeon Siege is just right. Icewind Dale 2 - Just like ID1...except better! Still not up to the BG1/2/NWN standard but that's not what this game tries to be. Arx Fatalis - Haven't played. Divine Divinity - Haven't played but have heard good things.

For the old DOS gamers: OpenGL ports of CLASSICS!
DosFreak replied to brainsoft's topic in Slack Space
The BUILD engine source is out. Released by Ken Silverman himself. Unfortunately the games you listed use many parts which were not programmed by Ken. -

Problem with XP's zero configuration wireless networking.
DosFreak replied to oXide's topic in Networking
Are you using any security features? When troubleshooting wireless networks especially with Windows XP I recommend disabling all security features and starting from scratch. Also make sure that your broadcasting your SSID at first. I've noticed ALOT of problems with Windows XP machines and not broadcasting SSID's. Once you get that ironed out THEN start adding security layer by layer. I usually see people start from the top -> down when troubleshooting wireless when they should be going down -> top. Makes it MUCH easier. -
Hmmm, wonder what effect a larger L2 cache would have on commonly used compressed files? Most likely increase speed drasticaly and be more of a benefit for a file server if you use compression. I recently compressed all of my file and apps servers and gained a couple gigabyes (I'm talking from 650mb to 11gb free one one of the main ones). Almost all of the files are simply pictures and text. Easily compressible data. That's what's so great about file-system compression. It's transparent to the user but you still get the benefits of compression. Unfortunately the compression isn't as great as say...Winrar but just about as good if not better than Winzip. (By the way..anyone know of a way to modify NTFS compression ratio? I know how to view it but not to modify).

I do too. Works wonders on my 2 120GB External USB drives FULL of all of my games. I'll have to look at it again but I believe it gets me about 6gb of space back!

Just updated it again. Whoah! That's alot of forums. Thinking about adding an Updates forum. Hmmmm....

Quote: I completely disagree; they always should not be loaded. It's more about security -"Champion_R". He's not statting that they should always be loaded. He's stating that the services will load the same no matter what user you are using unless you specify a specific user account. By default all NT4/2K/XP services use SYSTEM.

Can't remember the switch right now. Just use Winzip/winrar/powerarchiver/winace. Also run the SP with the /? switch and it'll tell ya.

or you can use the Full ver of NTBackup (Veritas Backup Exec). I use this at work to backup around 30 servers to DLT and to file and I also use it at home to backup to my External USB2/Firewire drives. I love it! I love the backup!

Intel SpeedStep on Pentium 4-M.... NEVER RUNS AT FULL SPEED
DosFreak replied to wadsy001's topic in Hardware
IIRC, Dell offers power management programs on their website but I've never used 'em with a P4 laptop before. -
Try this: http://wormsarmageddon.team17.com/main.html?page=good&area=down You want the Beta 2 Full 3.0.5 update. I was amazed to see this since the email I received close to 2 YEARS ago was not very encouraging.

Don't have the game but do you have SP6a installed? Many programs in NT require SP3+ or even specific Service Pack Levels.
