Dual boot MS-DOS 6.22 and NT Wks 4?
DosFreak replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
FreeDos? I'd use FreeDos over MSDOS nowadays. Better chipset support and more evolved programs in most cases. -

I'd go with a 2GB partition. -
1. Obviously you haven't heard that that report is funded by MS. 2. Recent news of a security flaw that MS judged as moderate when actually it was a sever flaw. 3. Like TV, just because there's a site about it doesn't mean it's true...especially from....MSNBC.

What's the Problem with Pizza Tycoon? As for FF7 search the forum for all FF7 threads and read 'em.

Nope. Simplest way is to write down the details.

The nice thing about the messenger service is that it's a little bit more easier for the noob to get the info on the sender.

Verify that the 98 machine is on the same subnet and that it has your internet computer's IP in it's DNS setting. Then dial to the internet on the XP computer. Go to the 98 computer and try to resolve dns. (ping -a www.google.com). If you can do that then you should have internet connectivity.

Should we stick XP Home with Windows 9x? Most home users will be using XP Home and this would keep the noob's out of the Pro forums.......Nah, this is good. Just gotta stick it all in the FAQ.

Since obviously you will not take our word.... http://www.der-keiler.de/Mailing-Lists/securityfocus/pen-test/2002-11/0026.html http://webpages.charter.net/klai168//Change_MAC_w2k.htm and finally. Quote: if users had the ability to change their MAC address to something else then there would end up being two of the same MAC address in the world and therefore would be impossbile to use a network which they were connected to i.e. the internet. Wrong. As far as I know there isn't a world-wide standard on MAC addresses, within the same company yes they do keep tabs but as far as I know only some companies care to standardize their MAC addresses. Changing your MAC address at home will in not cause any problems at all either on the Internet or your local ISP (depending on the configuration you may run into the problem that Clutch described, 2 NIC's with the same MAC on the switch or VLAN conflicting.). Cloning and changing the MAC address are 2 very different things.

Like the Legacy suggestion. Just modified my original post.

Quote: Well, dfolder doesn't work with Windows 2K or XP and I have to say that I don't really like the user interface with Spacemonger (although the price is right!). The one I like (but it costs) is bundled with PowerDesk 5. www.ontrack.com It is called Size Manager, and it lets you see the entire tree or a subdirectory tree, which can be sorted by large to small. I use it to do my purges of old, humongus stuff clogging up the arteries of my hard drive. Once you find a bloated directory you can right click on it to explore it. Typically I end up burning CD's and moving stuff off. (DVD's soon) ehh, dfolder works fine on 2k for me....
-
Due to posts being posted in the wrong forums over and over I just whipped up the above as a possibilty. Anyone have any suggestions?

Quote: Also, I have seen on some older laptops, they have trouble installing an OS from a burned CD. Just a thought. How old is the Compaq? Could be the type of CDROM no compatible with the CD. Used to see that alot in the early CDR days.

Try disabling Third Party Browser Extensions in Advanced.

Yeah, I REALLY need to create an article and such but you do that and people start doing things that they shouldn't....It's been in my head for awhile now tho.

eek, Don't take old posts out of context. That ACT.exe is ACT v1.1. Released back in August 2000. I've long since forgotten if that fixes works or not! The HS fixes are in that .INF and they do apply to the registry but I'd have to look back over 'em to verify. It's possible that the multiple installations of different ACT's messed up your Application Compatibility Database in \Winnt\Apppatch. You should always backup this directory if you start messing around with ACT's. IIRC, you need these files in that dir. acgeneral.dll aclayers.dll acspecfc.dll msimain.sdb shcmn.dll slayerui.dll sysmain.sdb All files are from SP3 dated 7/22/2002 Just delete all files in your current APPPATCH directory (back it up first!) and extract these files from SP3 and place 'em in that directory.
