no. Read the fix list. It's also a "must" for any program that requires it.

1. Delete the doomconfig.cfg file in the BASE directory. 2. Execute Doom. 3. Hit the ~ key 4. Use r_mode 0-8 to change resolution: 0=320X240 1=400X300 2=512X384 3=640X480 4=800X600 5=1024X768 6=1152X864 7=1280X1024 8=1600X1200 Type vid_restart to initite video change. **If screen goes black for awhile do not worry. Doom is recompiling graphics. If Doom does crash 9/10 it will drop back to the desktop. 5. Type in timedemo activate_demo1 6. When demo is done hit the ~ key and note the fps. Nope, a bit of Quake 1...a pinch of Quake 2 and everything else Valve.

Not totally sure but the second post down is a fake.

net config server reports maximum 10 users
DosFreak replied to abrogard's topic in Everything New Technology
If the "server" is a 2000 Pro box then the maximum ammount of connected users is 10. If the server is a 2000 Server then it depends on what Licensing mode that you are using. You can easily change the amount in the Licensing panel in control panel. -
Mabye XP ACPI = word for luvin' of the same [censored]

Unfortunately I do not have a Santa Cruz...I remember when I was using my GameTheater that I had to always use the latest beta drivers I could find from various companies so that I could get rid of various problems...hehehe. Not sure what the situation is nowdays. Are the controller card and the audio card sitting next to each other? This is also an AMD chipset.....I'm not aware of any issues with the Epox and the Santa Cruz but I've never used this combination before... Also try altering the PCI settings in your BIOS. Could possibily fix your problem...specifically "PCI Delay Transaction".

Hmmm, well unlike Half-Life there are actual physics's in the games. Shoot zombie on top of stairs...zombie falls down stairs. Shoot box on shelf and box falls off. If there's a manhole cover laying open on the floor then a zombie will step in it and be unable to get out.... (oops, game bug ) Still, there seems to be an effor to show Depth to the engine. The game character's have mass and a skeletal structure with muscles. So Characters will be MUCH more realistic. The game also seem's to use some scripted event's that react to your presence. If you go in a room then a zombie will apppear, if you don't go in then it won't....kinda of ruins the experience since you don't see any wat that the zombie could have gotten there..... The scripted sequences also trigger in-game cinematics which is a wise decision considering how HQ the ingame graphics are.... All in all...I don't see Doom as being more interactive as Half-Life...mabye slightly less. There also doesn't seem to be any interaction with characters nor do I see any interface or key commands to interact with them. Remember this is an Alpha. Carmack finished the engine just a few short months before this was shown at E3. The next year or so will be spent on actualy gameplay but if your expecting levels of gameplay interactivity equal to DN3D, Half-Life or DNF then I think you'll be disappointed.

Sigh. There's nothing wrong with ACPI in 2K. Your devices are supposed to be "sharing IRQ's" with ACPI. That's how ACPI works. Well not really since they are not really sharing IRQ's....It's complicated and I do not have time to explain. If I find time I'll post an article or two about it or you can search around with www.google.com. Have you tried using the same drivers that you were using under XP under 2K? Different driver revisions make all the difference....newer is not necessarily better.

1. I believe the beta is closed but I'm not certain on that. 2. Not exactly since DirectX IS freeware but it is a touchy subject. Common practice is that it can be discussed but not distributed. I haven't installed DX9 on .NET yet so I can't help there. Supposedly the Directx 8 uninstallers work but I am unsure.
-
Nope, I've heard of 'em tho. Supposedly the text part eats up extra space.....so I'd find it pretty useless.

Yep, ID has never been great for the storyline. I don't really see much of a story here either, judging by the Alpha, the .plan's, and the internet and magazine articles the storyline seems a bit better (they hired a writer for the game) but it's still going to be the usual run and gun gameplay....except slower and with shadows. Anyway's in my eye's at least it will be far superior to the Quake games for the singleplayer and more like the Doom series. Atmosphere. I just can't wait to see what other companies do with the engine... I want to see Doom Engine + Resident evil.

Any good recent articles comparing win2k versus winxp?
DosFreak replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
or superior products like StartupCPL. -
Well done.

Yeah, it's amazing how low people will go. What's REALLY amazing is that it's being brought out as an issue since we've had it for a looonng time.

WinXP or Win2k pro:Which is better for a heavy gamer?
DosFreak replied to pr-man's topic in Software
There are no "games that were made to work fine with XP but don't with 2K". Games that have XP support also have 2K support. The whole "XP is more compatible with older games speel" is just the fact that MS has updated the Application Compatibility database more in XP and have left the Application Database in 2K to rot. The fixes are easily portable if you just load up the ACT 2.6 and use the Compatibility Database to view the fixes in XP and then apply 'em in 2K. As for the rest of gaming compatibily? The crappy sound support they implemented in NTVDM for DOS games, VDMSound is much better in that area. The few more VESA modes they hacked in to XP that don't really make all that much difference anyways since the games that DO take advantage of such modes run terribly or not at all in XP, and finally the only REAL 100% looks like someone at MS invested about 10mins of their time into old game compatibility is the support for DOS4GW games to support SFX which NT4/2K do not....only thing is it runs crappily under XP so you may as well just run a DOS/XP dual-boot. There's your whole compatibility 2K vs XP in a nutshell. Now will you please just hurry up and decide. -
You can do what Bootvis does for XP but you have to perform the operation manually for 2K...you'd have to analyze and sort the drivers by hand....not relly worth it, IMO.

Microsoft always mentions SP's in their software installations. Remeber NT4 SP3? Just look at most NT4 software programs. Most recommend the installation of SP3+. heh. Mabye they decided 3 was the magic number this time around too but if you look at most software packages they do recommend a certain SP level. It's likely SP3 was recommended in this case due to MSI 2 included in SP3 whereas some strange people don't upgrade their MSI. Heck, I push out MSI 2 over SMS to all my workstations at work. Hopefully in a month or so I'll trust SP3 enough to push it out.....doubtful.

Beta ver of XP. Max Payne works fine in XP what error do you receive?
-
Ignore it. He was referring to a beta ver of XP.

uhhh, From Office 97 to 2000 is a good upgrade. 2000 to XP is a big nono if you actually want to do anything. Just like from Windows 2000 to XP, Office XP LOVES to kill you with "help".

Sandra/PCMark/HDTach are not good benchmark programs for Hard Drives. How do you have your HD's hooked up? To a PCI Controller card? To a integrated Highpoint/Promise controller on the motherboard? or the integrated controller on the motherboard? Verify that the settings in the BIOS/Windows are set to the appropriate settings. IIRC, DMA/100 is DMA5.

Try mplayer2.exe in the Windows Media Player folder instead of WMP 8.
