Now What's The Better Choice, W2K SP3 or WXP SP1?
DosFreak replied to CyberGenX's topic in Slack Space
I didn't see as much complaining with 2K. Sure there was the minor complaints about moving around the Administrative Tools but once the one's who complained actually looked at it they realized that it made more sense than the NT4 way. The Wizard's in 2K didn't have to be used while the one's in XP are more "in your face". For those who complained about them in 2K they could simply not have to see 'em, in XP it's a bit more complicated due to the "wizard's" being more integrated into the entire experience. Argue all you will but the fact is that although XP may be good for n00b's as they get more experienced in their usage of it the "experience" will become more of a hardship than if they were using 2K over time. -

A friend gave me an HP scanner a couple of days ago! Also received Icewind Dale 2, 2 512mb sticks of Corsair PC3200 memory, and a Toshiba DVDROM. -

Nope. Your putting words in my mouth. All I said was that .NET should be better for ya. For those of use that work at large corporations, using our Volume Licenses's for training purposes works out wonderfully. -

.NET should be better for ya. (As odd as that sounds.....) Seems MS devoted most of their attention to shoveling out XP for the home users. XP Pro was a byproduct of that marriage. -

Turn off all D3D acceleration.

If the creator of the product hasn't made a driver for it then no.

Remember it uses BITS so it MIGHT take awhile. Works pretty fast on my 400+ computer network...well fast for BITS.

Should work fine. If it works fine with 2 it should work fine with 4.

Install both and pick urself. The SP1 for XP definetly makes the deciding factor since if SP1 wasn't out then it wouldn't be an option, IMO. Even so XP is still too annoying for me. That's why I'm still dual-booting (2K/XP) and likely still will be when 2K support is dropped and none of my hardware works in it anymore. -
Took a peek inside of benchmark.exe.... So, since benchmark.exe is using the same .ini the only difference in major cause of problems with benchmarking with benchmark.exe is inability to adjust graphics options (unless you change the source .INI in this case MAXDETAIL.INI), according to the readme the difference in BOT battle (slower CPU=stupider AI?), inability of crappier graphics hardware to take advantage of options enabled in MAXDETAIL.INI. So we need a Benchmark prog that can detect the host vid card. Support all graphics options of said graphics card without having to tweak host video card settings. (Also the benchmark could automagically set the video card settings to default if necessary). Automagically gray out unavailable options for crappy video cards. Security Tab missing in Windows explorer

Tools/Folder Options/View "Simple File Sharing" Don't ask me why....I do not know and MS likely doesn't either. -
What crappy benchmarks... They are all flyby's and spectator. ;( Who in the world decided that this would be a proper benchmark representive of gameplay? Obviously they created this "Benchmark" as a demo to showcase the Unreal engine on different graphics cards. I knew this before I benchmarked the game and fired it up because the gameplay absolutely sucked.

If the MBR does become corrupted then I simply run the 2k/XP recovery console and do a fixmbr.

Yes, Let's say you have a HD with 2 partitions C: D: You install 9x to D:. Then IO.SYS,MSDOS.SYS,COMMAND.COM will be placed on C: while 9x is on D:. An entry is placed in MSDOS.SYS by 9x which points to the D:\Windows directory so it knows where to start Windows.

Simply. Delete the themes, Help files, sound files, pictures manually. As far as I know if you've try SYSOC.INF then the only other alternative is to do it manually unless a third-party prog has the ability. 98lite hasn't crossed over to 2K/XP yet unfortunately.
