Installing of Red Alert in XP..

Vista doesn't support DOS games that require full-screen graphics. You have to use DosBox. As for for the error you posted if you read this thread then you'll know how to fix it.

    Linux USB Windows Compatibility

As long as you use a Linux distro that comes with NTFS with write support. (If not then you'll have to download it and add it). It would be easiest to just make the USB drives FAT32, as long as you don't have files larger then 4GB then you should be good. Of course with FAT32 you don't have any security in the filesystem unless you use 3rd party software.... I personally don't use and never like using FAT32 on external drives. External drives are prone enough to errors as it is...

I want to install battlezone 2 on my w2k pro sp4

All you need to do is download Battlezone 2 and then install the 1.3 beta 3 patch from patches scrolls. No hacks or fixes required.

    Dungeon Keeper 2

On the 965 chipset I've had to turn off hardware acceleration (Make DK run in software mode) in the in-game menu to get it to work.

USB External HD recognized but name changed & now!

I've seen sometimes Windows will corrupt external hard drives in some situations. I've noticed it happens after a hibernate if you have one external drive plugged in and then when you boot the computer back up and have a different external HD plugged in that it will corrupt the partition. Run CHKDSK fixes the issue (and loses some data) sometimes. I would try plugging the drives one by one into a different computer and seeing if they show up properly. Then run a full CHKDSK on each drive. (Don't plug both in at the same time while doing this although really it shouldn't matter). Then reboot the computer that you experienced the issue on try each drive one by one. I've experienced the above issue on 2000/XP/2003/Vista too by the way.....

    extended desktop help

I wish I could do some tests but I'm about to go home. I wouldn't pay too much attention to "945 Express chipset" vs "945GM express chipset". I think if you install the drivers from your laptop manufacturer then it may say "945gm" whereas if you install the drivers for the card from Intel it may say "945 Express chipset". I highly doubt this would effect wether S-video works or not since it's still the same chipset but it is a possibility. So if your using the Intel video drivers then uninstall them and use the video card drivers from the laptop manufacturer website. None of my users use S-video but they do use DVI/VGA alot and that always works fine and all of my users use the Intel video drivers straight from the Intel website. If the above doesn't work then I would definetly check that cable.

    Fallout 1 & XP

Could try reducing hardware video acceleration. I'm just guessing now.... I've played Fallout 1/2 on all MS OS's and various computer hardware since then and never had these issues.... You may want to ask on the Bethesda forum or No Mutants Allowed forums.

Do You Hate Bugs As Much As We Do?

AV Companies Business plan. 1st. They create the viruses. 2nd. Create shitty software to supposedly protectet the system but more often than not corrupts it and slows it down. 3nd. Spam forums on the Internet. 4th. Spam our email. 5th. They go into the advertising business. 6th. Genocide?

    WSUS 3 & 13042 Error

Noticed this error today but didn't get a chance to look at it. Hopefully I can sometime this week. This is a fresh WSUS 3 install with only the software updates from the old server brought over, also installed on a new 2003 install so I know it's not caused by an upgrade over an older WSUS version.

    Fallout 1 & XP

Try Timeslip's fallout tweaks: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/sfall.html Not sure what your issue is never seen it before but the above should fix it if it's a video issue since it uses D3D for rendering.

Resident evil 2 on lower end systems

Easiest think I can think of that you could do would be to download the Application Compatibility Toolkit, start the ACT, look at what fixes Compatibility mode applies to the game and then look through those fixes and see which ones would cause the issue. If by reading the summaries and the documentation doesn't help then as a last resort you could just uncheck each fix one-by-one and test the game each time and see which fix causes the issue.

    SimCity Societies under Win2k

Hmm, easiest method is to install on another computer and copy the files over. Problem there is some games require registry entries or installed copy protection drivers. The registry entries can be monitored and captured with an registery monitor and the copy protection drivers are usually easy since they can be installed from their respective websites. I'm suprised that the game looks for "GetSystemWow64Directory" in Kernel32.dll since not even XP has that directory (unless it's XP 64bit). I guess the installer is confused...

    SimCity Societies under Win2k

I would pick the game up when I go to Best Buy today but from everything I've heard and read the game isn't that good. Add that to the fact that I've bought every single Simcity game but haven't played them since the first one on the Mac.......at least the other ones were good so I don't feel guilty for wasting the money. Is there a demo of the game?

    Direct X

Hmmm, "Some website" vs Microsoft.... "Some website" vs Microsoft.... Obviously some unknown website would be safer.
  25. Well.....at least we don't have to worry about answering too many posts.... I'm wondering if the Vista release will spark some interest in the forums again but considering that the betas have been out for quite some time....and there hasn't been any posts here, I don't think the Vista release will do anything except for mabye a minor surge of people who post asking for help and then leave again. I also haven't been too turned on by Vista anyways since I've mostly been working and Ubuntu has got me more excited than yet another retread of the same old NT.... These forums are geared more towards getting applications/games to work in Windows/Linux which like most such sites doesn't lend itself well to alot of posters....so perhaps there should be a general gaming forum or.....something?
