Yep, the OGL ICD is FUBAR. SOF2 locks up, revert back to 31 dets and no lockup. Good work Nvidia!

    setuppro.exe /q

Q: What additional features are available only with enterprise editions? A: The enterprise CD includes Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit documentation and tools. Although all customers can acquire the tools from the Office Resource Kit Web site, the Custom Installation Wizard and Custom Maintenance Wizard work only with an enterprise edition. Enterprise editions include support for the /a (administrative Setup) and /q (quiet installation) command-line options; you cannot run Setup from a retail Office XP CD with either of these command-line options. In addition, enterprise editions come with a Volume License Product Key, which allows you to deploy Office without requiring users to activate the product.

    setuppro.exe /q

Nope. It comes in handy when you have an administrative install (setup /a) of your Office on a network share. You can then perform a setup /q to patch versions of Office on your network. Let's say your clients are running Office 2000 SP1 from your administrative share. Now let's say you update your Office 2000 Administrative share to SP2. Now you simply create an advertisement in SMS to push out "setup /q" to your clients. Setup /q performs a silent update of Office

    A warning to all

Yep, I learned the ways of the backup long ago after losing gb's of data downloaded on my ol' 33.6baud modem. The best/cheapest/easiest backup strategy for the home user today: Buy an external USB 2 enclosure. Buy a big HD. Backup to the USB drive. Backup once a month or after large file changes. Currently I backup to an HD in my computer and simply disconnect the power. Although this is faster than backing up to USB (100GB+ in 2 1/2hrs) it reduced the available HD space in my computer and is also more prone to failure. The best strategy for backups is to store them away from the activity, which is why I am moving to the USB 2 backup plan very soon. Now if they only made external interfaces with SATA and SATA external encolsures.....

    Any WinXP SP1 Final Mirrors?

It's not removed. Just VERY heavily hammered. That's is the best place to download it from considering that you KNOW that it's official. I haven't seen any mirrors for that particular file but I've seen plenty for 1106. Supposedly they are the same just with different filenames but I haven't verified yet.
  11. IMO, After 1ghz the processor speed is not as important as the chipset/ram speed in 2D apps today. Going from a Dual P3 1ghz to an Athlon 1.6ghz I was suprised at the big jump in speed. It wasn't due to the processor speed but the "behind the scenes" operation of the chipset/memory. I still don't like the way this single processor multitasks tho and yearn for 2 on 1 action yet again! Here's to hoping I get my second computer up and going again. Plans are for it to be my ol' Dual P31ghz but I'll likely make it a dual Athlon MP.
  12. Winrar 3 Is the fastest. I use it with Powerarchiver. I use Powerarchiver's .cab to compress since on average I get the highest compression with it's .cab. I use .rar to compress when .cab doesn't compress the files as much as .cab does which isn't often. So Extract: Winrar Compress: Powerarchiver I use Winzip only to view Installshield files that neither Winrar/Powerarchiver cannot or if Winrar/Powerarchiver are not installed.

The best way to back up

I used to use the stripped down Backup Exec included with Windows 2000 but now I use the REAL Backup Exec since it offers Software Compression which the stripped down ver does not. Recently I backed up in excess of 100GB+ to another HD and the software compression in Backup Exec shaved off about 6gb I believe. I perform my backups by simply backing up to a seperate HD using Backup Exec and then disconnecting the power from the HD. I am debating on using my USB2 external HD for backup's so that I can use my internal IDE bay for more HD's instead of using them for backup...... Also the backup was fast...I wish I kept the statistics but I just reloaded my system and forgot to save 'em. Anyways it took under 2hrs to backup 100GB and about double the time to verify....You won't find those kind of backup storage/speeds in a Tape Drive....

Archivers: Which are your favorites, & why...

Winace bites...and that woman in the installation is annoying. I don't think I started using Winzip until 1994? Was using Pkzip from 90-94. Uses DOS rar during that time and DOS rar kicked pkzip's butt but of course wasn't as wide spread.
  16. Here it is: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=14-102-236&DEPA=1 Someone hurry up and buy it so I don't have to waste my money on another piece of crappy hardware just so I can confirm what I already know....money is a terrible thing.

  18. The Audigy Ex. I just install the drivers. I download the latest Creative. Exteact the package using Winrar and then point Device Manager straight to the drivers. I always have problems with the Creative installer/programs.

Anyone else have the NATURE test freeze with these Det's? It freeze's every time in 3dmark 2001. With DX8.1b and Dx9 beta 2. Just did a fresh install of 2000 AS SP3 and I experience the same thing.
  20. My audigy works fine with SP3 both on SP3 upgrade and SP3 slipstream.
  21. Supposedly any non Windows 2000 compatible software may be incompatible with the "Everyone" setting removed. If it's 2000 compatible then theoretically the "Everyone" setting being removed will not affect the software. There is only one way to know for sure.
