    NVidia "tactics" yet again

Nvidia has always improved performance in their drivers....even when ATI hasn't released anything new. Det 40 offers more than just 3dmark improvements. OGL v1.4 and a newer GUI. I don't know if I like the GUI....I hate this "XP" attitude that's going around, wish you could revert back but oh well. ATI does the same thing in case you forgot. 3Dmark 3dmark 3dmark. Matrox does the same thing to. EVERY company is focusing on 3Dmark since that's what most newbies seem to focus on. It's a simple benchmark that the average ameature n00b seems to think means that if your computer matches X scores then your computer must be SUPERFAST! Stop trying to make it an Nvidia thing. The ONLY reason 3Dmark increase is because the NATURE demo increase, if you knew what the NATURE benchmark was composed of then you would realize why this new DET made it much faster. It's not a conspiracy. :rolleys:
  2. This: http://dosbox.zophar.net/ my friend is DosBox. Currently on runs 286 level games. No DOS4GW support or VESA but it's a VERY good emulator and should surpass all other DOS emulators very soon.
  3. What game? Have you tried DosBbox?

    Radeon 9000 Pro

My suggestion: Buy it but see if you can return it. Then do a compare between the latest that Nvidia/Matrox/ATI has to offer. Pick which one you like the most but be fair towards's each.

What's the verdict on SP3, then?

How much you wanna bet that XP SP1 goes smooth? ;( I just heard that they are gonna repackage XP with slipstreamed SP1 and replace the previous ver of XP....Way to go MS! Wipe the memories of your beta OS from the public eye!

    Virtual PC?

VPC is better for compatibility but I strongly urge you to try both, READ THE DOCUMENTATION and become fully aware of the capabilities and limitations of both before buying.

I think SP3 adds a new DINPUT.DLL you can try to manually replace that with the SP2 version.

    Security & Stability

How do you know that the sites that you visit are not "malicious"? Any site can be and most likely will eventually at some point become malicious either through intent by an outside source or by accident from the website operator. A "Malicious site" in most cases IS a trusted site not a more commonly thought of "Warez" site. In fact the "underground" warez crackes/serials/warez sites are usually more secure than most business web sites.

    Win2000 and MBR

Boot into the recovery console. Either by installing it to your HD or booting off the CD. Then execute "fixmbr"

Can you use DVD's, etc on a RAID controller?

Just remember that you will not be able to access that drive until you install the drivers for it. So not booting from CD with that drive.

Many compressed downloads have CRC errors

Could be the compression program. Some compression programs have problems with different types of compression and they error out with CRC error's. Try using Winrar/Powerarchiver/Winzip and see if the errors still occur. Also what Inet connection are you using to connect? Do the downloads finish downloading?

    Windows NT4 & Cyrix 120

It was a good day today until I saw this thread and saw that "Cyrix" word again. *shudder*. Sure it may work but most software if you read the Readme's does not offer compatibility with Cyrix processors and for good reason. Unsure if 2K officially supports Cyrix and I am unsure if NT4 does....although it did run back in the day on those few people who actually bought one over a Pentium.

If you can't get it working don't worry yourself over it. IMO, it's a pretty crappy game.

Upgrading Windows 2000 Pro to Server?

What types of services are your users using? There are also shady ways of turning your Pro into a Server.

    Intellipoint

Nope. Guess MS is reversing their usual practices. Instead of putting the files on the server before they update the page They now update the page and point to the wrong file and confuse the user!

    Sonic 3D doesn´t install in Windows 2000!

Ok, your using the Qfixapp from the ACT 2.6? If that doesn't work try APCOMPAT.EXE from the Windows 2000 CD in the SUPPORT folder. The error your getting is not an NTFS error but rather a bug in the Installshield installer that errors out when it see's your HUGE amount of disk space.

    My list of NTCompatible games

Nope. Don't have the game. Going to take a look at your thread right now and see if I can help, but it looks like you already tried the app kit.
