BSOD news http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=4729 Quote: They said that you have to say "yes" to back up your settings when the SP is first run to avoid potential calamity. Well whodathunkit. ;( Sounds like unstable systems to me....

What happens when you choose Windows 98 from the boot menu?
-
Yup, that's what it is. BDUP.CMD uses EXTRACT.EXE to create the images. If your version of extract.exe isn't the same as the one posted at the arstechnica post then the images created will not work. Try downloading the extract.exe from that thread. Place it in your SYSTEM32 directory. Now recreate the images. Now try the disks. So you don't have to go through the process of recreating the CD again. Download WinISO. Open up the .ISO that you created with WINISO. Replace the bootdisks in the .ISO with the ones that you created. Now save the .ISO and burn it to CD. *Connectix VPC helps out greatly when creating CD's creating floppies. You can test .ISO'S & .IMG's without wasting CD's/Floppies/Time. Quote: Ok a little more details: i updated the bootdisk image files using bdup.cmd. (what does extract.exe have to do with that? it's not mentioned in your slipstream guide.) I created the 4 bootdisks in the windows 2000 command prompt with the makeboot.exe from the updated windows 2000 sp3 cd. I boot with these 4 disks. When on the 4th disk i get to the partition setup part, i set up my partitions, everything goes well. Then setup formats my c: partition in NTFS, so far so good. But just after the format i get following error: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following value in the .SIF file used by setup is corrupted or missing: Value 0 on the line in section [sourcedisksfiles] with key "sp3.cab" Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where did the free space to resize come from? Is your 98 partition still there? Is it still FAT? Is your boot.ini pointing to the location of your MSDOS.SYS/IO.SYS/COMMAND.COM 98 files?

If it's a system that you care about then the common practice is 30 days from release for service packs. It's also common practice to wait 15-30 days before installing ANY MS update too. If it's a test machine or a machine that you couldn't care less about then load away!

Hmmmm, My bad. Read this thread: http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=12009443&m=9720950925 I'm thinking you don't have the extract.exe which you need to create proper bootdisks. What's this format c: that you speak of? Are you talking about the 2K equivalent partition setup/format menu of format?

I'm not happy there are still MANY programs that do not have an NT equivalent. MANY games that still do not work in NT.

Windows 2000 SP3 causes problem with scsiport.sys driver
DosFreak replied to akonst's topic in Software
There's nothing stupid about using a previous driver which is what you did. Looks like MS made some changes that don't work...it's happened many times before. You should email 'em a bug report. -
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,263476,00.asp Just saw those new Apple commericials and wast pretty amazed at how bad they have gotten. Nothing turns me off of a company like blatant lying. Apple has turned a new low.

Well, it isn't half as annoying as those who put offers of FREE BEER/NEKID WOMEN PICS in the topic of their thread just to get some help. I open 'em up and nary a pic to be seen. 1. Which software did you download? 2. Is this for Win2000 or WinXP? 3. Do you know where your Device Manager is? Go there and verify that there are no exclamation marks or other yellow/red marks next to any devices. 4. Cables plugged in properly?
