The ramdrive will be the "C:" drive if a valid partition is not recognized. If ramdrive is "C:" then no partitions are recognized.

how do i enable agp fast writes and side band addressing
DosFreak replied to Four and Twenty's topic in Hardware
You don't need them but download NVMAX and give it a whirl. Also your bios may have the options to enable/disable them too. It's a video chipset/driver/motherboard deal. All have to support and enable. -
Contact 3DFX...ooooppsss my bad.

Ok did the 1024X768 check. 124fps in both OS's and my duallie is currently running at 1160. See get yourself a GF3 and get a 20+fps increase in 1024+! You little GF2 wimp.

NEED HELP: Protected mode driver is not responding to EMS fu
DosFreak replied to Londo Mollari's topic in Games
If you receive this error then you will be unable to run the game in NT4/NT5/NT5.1 (2000/XP). Your only course is to try VPC (Privateer doesn't work) or boot into real DOS mode. -
Note that sometimes even with Windows 2000 it's not always that easy. Make sure you have the recovery console handy.

The fat32 drive will be seen as the "C:" drive. Since 9x does not recognize NTFS as a valid filesystem. Make sure that you are actually using a 95OSR2+ disk. A pre-osr2 disk cannot read FAt32.

Hmmmm, No speed change for me and our processors are the same. This is with my GF3 and all updates installed for 2k/XP. Don't have my 1024X768 scores handy but I get about 60fps with my GF3 in 2048X1536.

Bleh. Me no likey. It better be ALOT (I MEAN A-L-O-T) better than the multiplayer test is all I have to say. It doesn't compare to the original.

There is no DX7 for NT4. I do not have the game so I am not sure if it uses D3D or not. Considering how new it is it probably does. If not then Connectix Virtual PC or Vmware with DX7/DX8 installed on a Windows 2000 guest MIGHT enable it to work but it's HIGHLY doubtful. I'd just stick 2000 on your laptop and it should work fin.

WinXP Pro or Home edition? Which is better? And for what thi
DosFreak replied to pr-man's topic in Software
PRO is better. Home is just PRO with the networking/security/smp and a couple dozen other things removed. There's a list on the MS website of the differences. Basically get Home if you don't know a thing about computers and don't plan on doing anything with them and if you don't plan on fixing problems with it....eh...so why are people buying it then? Why for the reasons I listed above of course. -
I do not have that game buy I think a friend does. Will try to get it from him soon. Also my XP Compatibility List is almost done and soon to be posted.

1. What videocard? 2. What Drivers? 3. Install game. 4. Use default options. Try D3D or OGL. 5. Game works fine for me in 2k.

The things MS will do to tout a new operating system. ;(

Hey clutch, Have you ever tried to use a Primary/Secondary External DNS on a NT4 Domain? Been meaning to set one up for awhile now and have dabbled a bit for the past year but just yesterday I set up a 2k Remote access Server that required DNS. So I set it up as a Secondary DNS server and it downloaded the zones straight away. Now I'm wondering if I can set up 2k for my Primary external DNS too. Don't see why not. Just wondering if anyone else has done the same.

Let me guess, these are the symptoms: 1. System performs fine in 2D tasks. 2. Upon launch/exit or even during a program that executes D3D/OGL functions the computer will hard-lock. Depending on how long you wait a BSOD will pop up declaring an infinite loop in NV4_DISP. I too have experienced this problem. My system is 100% stable under Windows 2000. I have brought all of my considerable knowledge to bear to try to fix this issue in XP but with no luck. If he is getting the same error as am I then do not bother bother to post. This is not something simple and is most likely a major bug in the OS. I've seen this a couple of times around on the net and so far it seems to only occur on VIA chipset. It really makes you wonder WTF Microsoft does. All XP betas all the way up to RC2 ran fine (well for XP that is....) until the Final. The Final crashes all over the place. Guess Microsoft need's to redefine RC. Mabye they were confused and the Beta's were RC's and the RC's were betas? ;(

Quote: Triple boot of 2k/XP/Mandrake 8.1 here also. What I really want is a PC version of AmigaOS Great minds think alike.

I'm triple-booting 2K/XP/Mandrake 8.1 at the moment. Downloading MacOS X x86 so I can test it out under Virtual PC under Windows 2000 right now.....

Imaging that rolling green hill and blue taskbar. That little brown dog jumping up and down. The bright colors saying "click me" "click me". The intuitive wizards making it sooooo easy for non-admins to mess up your servers. The bloated junk which MS will probably not allow you to leave our during install which means taking it out AFTER install which means hundreds of left behind files and registry entries. Ah, Linux WILL rule the world. It's already embedded in everything around the world. Soon it's desktop will reach the appropriate level of user-friendliness. An OS to make both the user/power user happy.
