Hmmm, it could be taking advantage of windows WFP. Try scanning the Windows dir for the file and delete multiple instances of it.

1. No D3D Support. No emulation software that I have seen for Windows has D3D support. Nope not even vmware. 2. MIDI sounds terrible. 3. Integrated S3 Video card has 4mb of ram for a max resolution of 1600X1200 in 32bc. 4. VESA is slow but playable at 1024X768 5. If running under Windows 2000 I recommend running VPC with at least 256mb of ram. I also recommend a 1g processor. 6. Most DOS games work fine under VPC. But some cannot. VPC uses the full amount of your host processor speed so some older games will still run too fast and even fail to run due to such a high processor speed. 7. No Linux ver of VPC. 8. Check out the forums: http://www.connectix.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi connectix has EXCELLENT support for their product and will listen to your suggestions for up[censored] it. Those should be the only issues you encounter! Other than that VPC is GREAT but it should not be used as the ONLY means for full gaming goodness under Windows 2000. Use it in addition to Windows 2000. The following is a list of my games that do not work in Windows 2000 but do work in VPC: GAMES THAT WORK ONLY UNDER VIRTUAL PC Command & Conquer (Windows 95) Windows 2000 oes not work with APP Kit 1.5 Command & Conquer The Covert Operations Windows 2000: Does not work with APP Kit 1.5 Daytona USA Windows 2000: Works but graphics glitches and control problems. Blood Works fine in 2000 except without VESA Descent Works in 2000 except screen shakes. Duke Nukem 3D Works fine in 2000 except without VESA Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworlds Mechwarrior 2 (DOS) Sound messes up during videos. Sound works fine in-game. Plays fine at 1024X768 but a little slower than 800X600. Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries (DOS) Sound messes up during videos. Sound works fine in-game. Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries (Windows) Sound messes up during videos. Sound works fine in-game. When you install the 1.05 patch do NOT install the Direct3D update. The emulated video card in Virtual PC is NOT a 3D Accelerator and the Direct3D patch will severly slow down Mercenaries and mess up graphics. Windows 2000: Does not work with APP Toolkit 1.5 Megarace 2 Graphics are slightly messed up. Monopoly Deluxe Need for Speed Run TNFS.EXE in DOS under Virtual PC. Redneck Rampage Rides Again Works fine in 2000 except without VESA Relentless Twinsen's Little Big Adventure Works fine in DOS. Simcity 2000 (DOS) Star Trek: Klingon Windows 2000 oes not work with APP Kit 1.5 Terminal Velocity Works in 2000 except screen shakes and no VESA The 4th Generation Transport Tycoon Tyrian Ultima 7 Game runs fine in DOS but VERY fast. May have to use slowdown tool. Ultima Underworld Game works fine in 98 after adding HIMEM & EMM386 to config.sys. Virtual Pool Works fine in 2000 except without VESA Wing Commander 3 Works in 2000 except without VESA. Wizardry 5 TOTAL=26

Hope this taught you a lesson....

Yup, that's one of the biggest gaming hurdles in NT operating systems due to the crappy SafeDisc copy protection. You have to use game cracks.

"System is Shutting Down: NT SYSTEM Authority" ???
DosFreak replied to Ron_Jeremy's topic in Hardware
I noticed that you said it displayed this message while surfing the web. If so someone could be remotely shutting down your machine. Are you running any firewall/Antivirus software? Tick anyone off lately? -
Use Resource Hacker or some other prog. Copy ntoskrnl.exe out of the Windows directory to another directory and then look for the file.

Diskeeper 7 can now defraf 4K+ clusters. (Took 'em long enough) -
I don't have the game but are you running any motherboard monitoring utilities? If so uninstall/disable them. Some interfere with NTVDM.

Build 393 A. PRODUCT CERTIFICATION ========================= The Diskeeper 6.0 and Undelete 2.0 Server and Workstation full versions for Windows are compliant with the Microsoft Windows 2000 logo certification. At this time, Diskeeper 7.0 has not yet been certified, nor has any of the following: Diskeeper Trialware, the Deleted File Analysis Utility and the additional resources on the Diskeeper CD. The Alpha version of Diskeeper also has not been certified for the Windows logo. B. PLATFORMS AND OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS SUPPORTED ===================================================== This version of Diskeeper is supported on Intel x86 (or compatible) platforms running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Note that if this is an update version of Diskeeper and you are installing it on a computer that was upgraded to Windows 2000 from either Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 9x, the update installation will not save any previous settings. You will need to re-enter any exclusion lists, "Set It and Forget It" schedules and Frag Guard settings. Note also that Diskeeper requires OSR 2 or higher on Windows 95 systems. H. KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES 2. We have noted occasional problems in defragmenting volumes that have been configured or resized with Partition Magic. If you are having problems defragmenting a volume, and it has previously been configured or resized with Partition Magic, it may be necessary to backup, reformat, and restore the volume prior to running Diskeeper.

That's why I went SCSI. Back up all 17gigs of my data on 1 17gig drive (in fact I have no free space left getting 36g soon). 2 17g SCSI 1 for NT5/NT51 OS/APPS (ALL NTFS) 1 for backups (currently full ) (ALL NTFS) 2 60g DMA/100 IBM (previously RAID) 1 Linux 1 Games (2 partitions FAT32 'cause of Linux not supporting NTFS ) As for Diskeeper 7 as far as I know it's Final. Are you overclocking? Using a HPT370 controller?

how to make a reg file to automatically delete a string valu
DosFreak replied to rgodart's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Here's some examples from the registry files I added to an affinity program to add right-click functionality to pick which processor you wish to run the executable on!: INSTALL [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Affinity1] @="Use CPU 1" UNINSTALL [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Affinity1] @="Use CPU 1" See the difference? -
I've compiled this 2 days ago. It's about 2.95M compressed. Lemme know if you want. It GREATLY helps game compatibility under Windows 2000/Whistler. (It can be installed under both.) I would send to Phillip for download straight from NTCompatible but since this package contains files from the Beta of Whistler I'm not sure if that would be allowed. WHAT IS THE WHISTLER APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY TOOLKIT? This package is a compilation of files from the Whistler Beta 2 2462 CD, the Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit and the installed Whistler files from \Windows,\Windows\SYSTEM32, and \WINDOWS\APPPATCH. This program is for both Windows 2000 and Windows Whistler. Why would you want to use this program on Windows Whistler? The Whistler Application Compatibility Toolkit consolidates all the tools you need to easily fix an application. Windows Whistler standalone does not have all of the tools in one place and is not very informative on how to fix your own programs. WHY I compiled this package because I was tired of Microsoft not up[censored] their Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit (The Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit is a program release by Microsoft that applies specific fixes to programs so that the programs can work under Windows 2000. These fixes basically translate commands that are different in Windows 2000 from Windows 9x,NT) and instead focusing their time on Windows Whistler. ALOT of people bought Windows 2000 expecting their programs to work. Many don't. Well with this program they do! I have the feeling that Microsoft will not update the Application Compatibility in Windows 2000 as often as they do in Windows Whistler because they of course want the $$$$. With the included files you will have the same level of Application Compatibility in Windows 2000 as you do in Windows Whistler! Here's a good example of how outdated the Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit is: Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit=5/24/2000 Whistler Application Compatibility Toolkit=3/20/2001 Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit=70 fixes Whistler Application Compatibility Toolkit=160 fixes

Peoples, Read My Last Post. DO NOT USE MY MODIFIED WHISTLER TOOLKIT! Get the MS Toolkits here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/Default.asp?contentid=28000911 If those don't work for ya then you can talk.

SFX: IQ 5 DMA 1 Port 220 MIDI: General MIDI I'll try it when I install XP again. Currently playing around with Linux and haven't got around to it.

Quote: It is correct that version 7 should only be used with Win XP. It would be risky to try using version 6, when you're talking about messing with your partitions. V7 is compatibile with previous versions of Windows too.

Boot from the 2k CD or the 2k bootdisks. There is no reason to load WINNT.EXE from the DOS prompt. Unless you can't boot from CD or your floppy is dead.
-
Works fine.
-
Shadow Warrior can be run with XP's built in Sound. VDMSound's sound implementation cannot run SFX in BUILD engine games. Only XP can.

no. Chkdsk > file.txt is all ya got. If a disk is corrupted or scanned during system start then a log will be kept in the event viewer.

So how many years young are ya?

and for that 1...or mabye 2 ME advocates. We are not saying that since ME is the absolute worse OS on the planet that 98SE suxs even more. Not so. 98SE is BETTER. MUCH BETTER. Than ME. Yes. Sad isn't it?

Quote: just a ? for you. Assuming that XP is based off of windows 2000, Do you think its possible for our friend to use the 2000 boot disks, but the xp cd to get the results he is looking for? Just a thought. I personally haven't tried it, i hate to wipe my machine once a month instead of once every 2 d;x Nope. You can't even boot a slipstreamed 2k CD wth the original boot disks. I had to write a script that compiled the files off of the CD onto floppies. So I made a disk set for each SP level of my 2k CD's (NOSP,SP1,SP2). The script should work fine for XP but I have not tried it.

Also system memory. With less than 32mb of system ram NTFS is a hog.
