Don't know if any of you guys have tried yet but the final version of Windows Defender does not install on Windows 2000 due to a limitation in the .MSI. If you download Orca (MSI editor) (go to google and type in ORCA.ZIP + MSI). Then download Windows Defender. Now install Orca. Open the Windows Defender.MSI with Orca. Go to "Launch Condition". On the right-hand side of the screen you'll see: "VersionNT > 500". Right click on this value and choose CUT. Now save the file and run it. Like the previous Beta of Defender you'll need GDI+: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en Copy this .dll to your \WINNT\System32 directory. I just finished installing Windows Defender, it just finished up[censored] and I am now running a spyware scan. Enjoy!

Best to leave alone unless reason to do so. ie Terminal Server registry issues or if file system is HEAVILY fragmented. Focus should be on upgrading away from Windows 2000 not maintaining further. (Microsoft will stop providing updates in July.....) Most Windows 2000 servers can run Windows 2003 just fine from what I've seen but frankly if you are on Windows 2000 your focus should be on moving to a newer version of Windows inside of a VM and getting rid of your physical boxes as much as possible.

Windows 9x 1. right mouse click on My Computer and click properties 2. change to the tab "Device Manager" 3. open the device manager and navigate to your DVD/CD-ROM and click on the "+" 4. right mouse click on your DVD/CD-ROM and choose properties 5. check if you have DMA Transfer Mode (or something like that) checked and if so uncheck it! 6. click ok and then start the pc new Windows XP: 1. click on "Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager" 2. open the Device Manager and navigate to the entry "ide Controller" 3. right mouse click on the channel on which your DVD/CD-Rom (Primary or Secondary depending on which controller your CD/DVD-ROM is) and choose properties. 4. Check if your CD/DVD-ROM is running in DMA or PIO mode and change if needed to PIO 5. confirm with ok and restart If you have to switch to PIO mode to play this game then you may want to try to figure out why you must do so. DMA is much better than PIO. 4. Q: I can't build walls, plant trees, use chairs or tables. A: Rumour is that this has to do with using a NOCD Patch. Don't do that. 5. Q: The install halts at XX%! A: This may be because of a bad/dirty CD. Check the CD for scratches or dirt. If none then the CD may be bad. Try the CD in another computer. If you still have the same problem then try the suggestions posted above. 6. Q: I stick the CD in the drive but it can't see it! A: Verify that your aren't sticking a DVD into a CD drive. If you aren't then try the above suggestions. Sims 2 Crashing Problems 1. Your computer may have bad memory. I'm not going to read the second paragraph but from what I read of the first paragraph it's possible your graphics card drivers got updated. Try comparing your driver version to what is available on the Intel site. If the Intel drive is newer then download and use that one. If that one doesn't work then you'll just need to start going back through driver versions and try older versions of the driver.

You could try running it in Windows 95 compatibility mode. If that doesn't work then you'll have to try running it in a VM since that's what I had to do for NHL 99.

Take the driver out of the enclosure and connect it internally to your computer. If the computer can see the drive then download the diagnostics from Western Digital and scan the drive. If computer can't see it then verify you have everything connected correctly, if not then it' toast and only a professional service can fix it.

Think I remember something about this. Something to do with the AGP Gart that comes with the motherboard drivers. It's possible that the one included with ones is incompatible with your motherboard so if you can find the right driver online then you should be able to install it in safe mode. Also it's a SIS mobo so smash that POS to bits and get something else.

Might be the 8bit color issue with Windows 7. Open up Task Manager. End the "Explorer.exe" task. Using File Open in Task Manager browse to the game executable and start it. Color issue should be gone.

Right-click on "My Computer", go to properties. Go to Advanced System Settings. Under "Startup and Recovery" Click on "Settings" Uncheck "Automatically Restart" and click OK. Run the game. When it crashes note the memory error (ex 0x00000something) Also if it shows a driver name then write that down. Post the info here and/or search google. It's most likely a video/audio driver issue.

Run memtestx86 on your computer to test your memory. Verify you are not overclocking your machine. Verify that CPU/Memory is not overheating.
