What system specs do you have? Motherboard, chipset, driver versions, graphic card, PCI/IDE patches if any, etc...
-
I would have to say Intel. Dunno much about SIS, but I know a lot of people that owned Elitegroup boards with a SIS chipset (athlon socket 7) and died on them at an astounding rate (8 out of 10 had to be replaced).

Go for EPOX EP-4BDA2+ Socket 478 (Intel 845 chipset)

Exact same problem happened to me yesterday, dude. I have no clue why. I booted into recovery console from the XP CD and did a "fixboot". Rewrote the boot sector, and now it's loading ok. My C: is NTFS, all other drives are FAT32.

Im waiting for the prices of a pure Geforce 3 to go down...a Ti500 or even an "old" GF3 is a better value for money than the GF4. Either way, it's gonna be an improvement over my GF2-MX400

Clouds of weirdness gathered above my house yesterday The previous evening I shut down the PC with no error messages. Last evening, tried to boot normally, but got a BSOD with the "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" message. My C: drive is NTFS, the others (D-H) are FAT32, I and J CDR/DVD drives. I am running the VIA PCI patch, on a 8KHA DDR mobo (no raid). Did a safe mode, and I noticed the BSOD came after trying to load the mcp.sys driver. Booted from my XP CD, selected to ®epair the existing installation, got to a pseudo-DOS prompt and decided to run the "Fix Boot" command. Rewrote the Boot sector, and the PC boots w/o problems since then. What could have caused this? --------------------------------------------------- Do NOT download the 23.11 drivers from the Microsoft Update site, they resulted in a repetitive BSOD/Infinite loop blues. Instead I dloaded the new 27.10 (www.reactorcritical.com), and didn't experience ANY problems so far.

Depends for what... 9x is simple and perfect for games and such. ME it's simply weird...should have been skipped Nah, I guess it's ok...for most purposes...OEMs thrive on it. NT is old, with SP6 still encountered on many corporate machines 2000 with SP2 is the best choice from all above, games work ok and you cannot compare the NT kernel with the 9x one.

I've only had problems with the Logitech iFeel USB mouse. I didn't install the Logitech Mouseware, only the drivers part. Still acts weird, even on the desktop, not in games. Downgraded to an old MS Wheel Mouse PS/2 and the problems went away

I heard in Texas it would be much easier and effective: Pull out the 12-gauge, MUHHAAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! You Yanks have weird ways of doing things, really
-
Muhhahaa, has little do to with Computers, but we should try to have some fun as well, don't we Quote from CNN's Larry King Live Transcript: "Lewis claims he was bitten on his leg in last week's melee while Tyson was on the ground. The bite, he said, required a tetanus shot and antibiotics." I couldn't help cracking up at the last part

I'll be damned...check this http://www.theinquirer.net/30010215.htm Although the article sounds a bit too enthusiastic, it's certainly gonna make some waves.

Lol @ Clutch, Maybe I misunderstood you, when u said "talk about a dedicated Mac fan". I think you were referring to the article's author, not me (even if I supported Macs in some other thread, earlier on ) Yea the dude sounds like he's on Apple's payroll, but the idea is not that bad at all (article's idea, not that he's being on Apple's payroll)

@ Andy FreeBSD (Open*,Net*) runs on PowerPC and x86... Solaris runs on Sparc and x86... Linux runs on PowerPC, Sparc, x86 AND Sony's PS2 Why shouldn't OS X run on x86, since it's BSD based? And I'm not a dedicated Mac fan, I just love to see competition...we would only benefit from it. ------------- @ Clutch Sorry but Cocoa beats the lights out of M$'s Luna UI...or do you think otherwise?

What beta? I used to check every beta Detonators out there, at a rate of one/week Then I got bored of benchmarking and settled for the "official" release from nVidia, which is supposedly tested and "stable".....but then again, we all know how good the 23.11s are

I think it's just another article written by someone who needed to write "something". It doesn't bother me anymore, because the situation is clear enough: the Athlon core is hands-down faster and cheaper than P4, even if it was designed in the old days competing with the PIII. Of course you cannot compare a 1.93 GHz CPU with a 3 GHz...and yet the race is pretty close. Come on guys, just look at the title: XP 2300+ vs. P4 3 GHz...it's kind of ridiculous.

Are you using an external amp? You should never pass the 75-80% max 85% master system volume (or winamp volume), use the external (speakers) volume to pump the sound.

Logitech iFeel USB sucks a$$. I have one and I don't know for sure if it's the mouse model or the USB interface that acts weird.
-
Nero has its own packet writing software, it's called Ahead InCD. Same thing as DirectCD from Adaptec, really...

Broadband in Yurop sucks...if you're one of the lucky ones to jump onto the bandwagon, you get too little for what you pay. I have a DSL flatrate, 768/128, for 50 Euro/month (same in US$ i guess). GO figure...Up north, they got much better deals, Sweden, Denmark and Holland. I guess the situation is like this because of the "state owned" TelCo that basically has a monopoly and they can charge whatever they feel like. I am using a private provider (Vodafone), having their own backbones, but the "last mile" from the PBX to my home is still 0wn3d by the mighty "Telecom". SIMPLY LAME
-
That's my point: do they clearly say ANYWHERE that you need a 3rd party decoder? Execept I think in the setup process, that is AFTER you bought their software
-
Following on an early remark from Clutch in some other post, I would say that it won't be really soon when we'll all be running some sort of *nix, with Lindows on top, smashing thru Duke Nukem Forever multiplayer levels, and last but not least, using a BitBoys GFX card LOL

I have the Creative Soundworks Digital...1 subwoofer and 2 cube satellites. I find it very good, works ok with SPDIF-Out from my "old" SB Live! and it's "loud" enough as well. I don't need anything fancier, really
-
LOL, imagine part 2 of the article in a few weeks: "Are YOUR parents on Crack?" Muhuhahahahahaahha...
-
"Netscape sues Microsoft..." SO ???
