Why hesitate for ATA133? Simple: because it's useless in performance gains. By today's standards, even ATA66 has to be fully utilised. Burst transfer speeds, yea, ok...but sustained read/writes do not top 30-40 MB/s (IDE).

I have a 8KHA with a TBird-C @ 1.33GHz Logitech iFeel mouse USB, but did not install the mouseware. I got a weird BSOD yesterday (IR_NOT_LESS...) while trying to maximize a IE window...left me completely in the dark! No idea man.

Maybe you were portscanned and the firewall detected that and automatically blocked the IP. However the attacker can spoof his IP and hide behind your provider's DNS, therefore locking you out of the Internet, lol. I don't think that's the case, but maybe the NetBios name of that IP address IS actually DNS, lol too.

The P4 is gonna go down in price too in a couple of months, so it looks good. Off the subject, but did anyone hear of issues with ATI cards and Intel mobos?

I had the same problem with BattleCom. Seems to be a SB Live driver issue, I upgraded my drivers and the echoing and noise was gone. However the latest XP drivers from Creative don't fix it...I used the Driver update (important, ONLY driver update) for W2K for Liveware 3.

I would say 4x64 gives the best performance...if you find a board with 4 banks, that it.

I got an IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL Bsod last night, and I could NOT reproduce it, lol. Booted up the system, logged in, started my DSL connection, fired up IE then Winamp. 2-3 minutes later i tried to maximize the IE window and I got the BSOD, lol. Rebooted, and it ran for hours without a glitch... Go figure...

I experience weirdness with the latest from Nero... I burn a CD @ 12x, and when I look at my resources I have 3 MB RAM free out of 512 (well after boot it settles to around 400). Anyways, even the task manager takes forever to show up. After the burn process is done, and Nero is closed, my RAM is back. I wouldn't call it a "leak" therefore, but rather a "hog". Anyone experienced this at all?

I guess you could be right. I didn't try to change the default "cache" configuration that Nero uses, in other words limit the buffer that it needs.

Yea Clutch, I have a VIA based board...Epox 8KHA (KT266 chipset). I have read on the Viaarena.com forums that the Infinite loop BSOD seems to affect not only VIA chipsets, but Intel as well. No reports yet on the NForce boards. I agree, Athlon is a sweet CPU but what good does it do to put a 800 PS F1 engine on a Mini chassis. I am seriously thinking of buying Intel as of my next upgrade (next year sometime). I really don't want to spend hours of tweaking and tuning a phucking board with drivers and processor patches every other week! I'm anxious to see how the 845D chipset from Intel will perform (launching Q1 '02).

They didn't fix anything for me, actually i have never had the infinite loop BSOD before...until I tried the 23.11s. Tried the new VIA 4.36 4in1, RX55 patch, everything...it DIES. I have an Epox 8KHA (KT266), Geforce 2MX-400, Tbird 1.333 GHz Back to the 12.90s

The option is there, somewhere...you can open the status window and hover the mouse over the MSN connection icon, and it will tell you if you have mail or not.

Clutch if you could read my posts properly, you would see that Im irritated about crap driver builds that Nvidia releases officially. I mean, COME ON, didn't they have a VIA based board for testing ALL THIS TIME?????? Didn't it die on them like it dies on so many people? Via blames Nvidia, Nvidia blames Via...and the losers are idiots like you,me and loads others, who waste their time trying to put together a stable system...do they care? Doesn't look like it, they got our money already. I just demand the support that I am entitled to, and I want to see improvements in stability rather than performance in the Detonator series. I think they have been tweaked for performance long enough... And what's wrong with me barking at Creative, M$ and the rest? I have a right to, don't I? The Emu10K is an excellent proc...from the SB512 up to Live!Platinum series. Too bad the drivers sucked, or it took them almost 2 years to release good W2K drivers. I see around posts from people saying: " well, xyz is a good card but it would be even better if I could get sound out of all speakers, or centre speaker".
