    TNT2 & OpenGL Problem

Many of us had problems like this, esp.with the new drivers from Nvidia. Try Detonator 3.66, they will work (i hope!)... Get them at www.reactorcritical.com Or try generic drivers at www.joytech.com
  2. Who in the right mind would like to hibernate, when that thing just dumps you entire RAM contents to HDD, and takes ages to retrieve it afterwards...and if only ONE bit is messed up, ADIOS recovery!!!!

    Windows 98!

Yep, i'm back with old W98 as well...too many problems with drivers, especialy video (nVidia). Other than that, it was a kick ass OS (still is), but i think one needs 192 Mb RAM to be really cool...128 is ok, but leaves me 55-60 MB free after boot...and trust me, i did a lot of tweaking! We just have to wait for the damn drivers...days, weeks, months...years! I'm really looking forward to SP1 sometime this summer...until then, it doesn't hurt W98 if you reboot it manually when you are mostly playing games, right?

    Autorun on Win 2000 Final

THC, remember: YOU DON'T HAVE TO REPLY to his post!!! Next time, I think we would appreciate if you would keep your comments to yourself... How would you feel, if on your first time on a message board, you are told that basically you are dumb... I hope everybody who posts crap like this is reading now. The lad posted a QUESTION, and he needs an ANSWER, maybe he has no clue what "autorun" is, maybe he's Bill himself, WHO CARES??? GET IT???
  5. Depending on the CPU/Mobo you have, you might have the biggest headache of all times trying to cope with the crashes/BSODs when you have ACPI enabled...

    AMD CPU's and Win2k

Guys, this sound ****ed up! I have a K6-2 @ 450 (4.5 x 100, clean!) and it reports as: "AMDK63D Processor, MMX, 3DNow, 450MHz" in DXDIAG.However I have W98 (no SE)...i had no problems like this in W2K Pro either... The NT (and W2K) component that recognizes your CPU is called HAL, maybe this file is damaged, otherwise it won't report crap like that. Somehow it looks like you didn't have a smooth upgrade....

Anyone know of a tweakguide for win2k?

    Try X-SETUP from www.download.com, I think...

    random shutdowns!

Believe it or not, same thing happened to me as well for few days. It only happened with Internet Explorer... I was trying to open a link, it wouldn't do it first time, second or third time i tried, it simply rebooted!! I installed Netscape, which later I deleted, cos it's a RAM hog (literaly), then updated to M$ IE 5.1, and finally downgraded to Win98...

    binding 2 connections....

True, M$'s m-link protocol is for modems only (for now)...i'm not too familiar with DSL/ADSL, since it's not that big here in Europe yet...we're mostly on ISDN (do you guys remember this one?? )

    Networking in Win2k

Details, details...it would make it more easier to figure it out. Tell me: - what protocols are you running on every machine? - did you set up a second network connection for the second card as well? - what's all that mess with the hub and all, do you have some kind of intranet or something?
  11. Palos

    Win2k will not shut down.

We would like more juicy details... Do you have ACPI enabled by any chance??

ALI Aladdin V AGP Driver for Windows 2K (and Geforce cards)

My friend Esquire, we all know what Acer Labs's website is, thank you...you somehow missed the whole point of the post: the lad was looking for a AGP DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 2000... Did you see it anywhere on that site???
  13. I strongly recommend the usage of an Alladin V chipset with a TNT/TNT2/GeForce card... naaah, just kidding!! Unless you are willing to spend all day long (full time job!) trying to fix this combo... Actually, from what I've read so far, the Matrox G400 is doing quite well, no major compatibility issues. A Voodoo3 would be my next choice, but you have to realize that it can only kick ass in native Glide. If you have a K6-2/3 CPU this is definately the choice for a Super7 mobo; 3DNow! support is been incorporated into Voodoo drivers for some time now as well... Stay away from nVidia for now, but as I said, consider Matrox and 3DFx, probably ATI as well...as for S3 Savage I would wipe that one out too....

    Is no AGP normal?

Everybody get a VIA KX133 and an Athlon 1 GHz and your problems will be solved!!!

Problem with Plextor PX-32TS CD-ROM with Windows 2000

Is it a SCSI drive? If it is, then leave a CD in it all the time, and when W2K starts, it spins once, then when it "establishes network connections" right after logon, you should have solved the problem and access the drive normally. This crap happened to me with a SCSI2 adapter and a TEAC 55S CDR...tried all the new firmwares, BIOS for my SCSI adapter, etc...then one day i forgot a CD in the drive by mistake and after I restarted the PC, it all worked fine... Yeah, Microsoft, figure this freakin bug out...

    binding 2 connections....

I suppose you got the meaning of "binding" kinda wrong...what binding really does, it "binds" a protocol to an adapter, that is, that adapter (LAN card for example) uses the protocols that are binded to it in a specific order. When you want to access the network, it looks at the binded protocols and uses them starting with the topmost (higher priority). What you probably want, is to use another protocol which uses 2 or more adapters for the same physical connection (i think it's called Multilink or something). That allows you to use 2 modems for example, each at 56k (for example) for a SINGLE connection of 112K in total. But remember, the speed is limited by the media that you are using...

    DVD / 3Dfx

Yep, back with ol'Win98...I can run my 3D Revelators fine, I have new ELSA drivers for my TNT2, AGP patches, etc...let's see how long it lasts before I'll switch to Linux

    DVD / 3Dfx

Hey dude, how about YEARS??? Just saw an article on Tomshardware dated June '99 addressing the AlladinV - TNT/TNT2 problems. Do you see any FINAL STABLE drivers anywhere????

    Is no AGP normal?

Be careful however with new boards (no ISA slots)...the AGP shares an IRQ with one of the PCI slots as far as i'm aware...

    DVD / 3Dfx

And by the way, I don't really like that hyper overclocked Celeron...it might be a problem, too...

    DVD / 3Dfx

Well, that's the bad side of a newly released OS. Manufacturers choose either to wait for the official release in order to start developing new drivers, or some work already on beta drivers for beta versions of the OS. On the other hand, some don't give a ****... Nvidia and Ali are definitely some of the latter, we just have to wait for them to get their act together to release damn stable drivers. I don't know where 3dFx stands right now, I used to have a Voodoo2, now I have a TNT2 and as a conclusion I moved back to Win98... judge for yourself...

    Hardware compatibility for Win2k

Do you have a SCSI interface along with the IDE one?

    Problem wtih refresh rate?

Start-Run-DXDIAG Then go to the rightmost panel, HELP i think, and click on override default DirectX refresh rate...enter the value you want, 100 or 120 Hz... No need to reboot afterwards, however this affects only DirectX refresh rates. For OpenGL (like Quake 3, Kingpin, etc...) i don't know yet for sure, try Powerstrip or something...

Maxi Gamer Cougar and tnt2 m64

Try the drivers from www.joytech.com, they worked for me when i had W2K installed. No AGP support shown in DXDIAG, but Powerstrip showed it as enabled at 2x (!?)...whatever. And YES, I have an Alladin V and a TNT2

'Turn off hard disk' on Power Options doesn't work !

Seems like W2K has a lot of bugs, regardless of what people say...ACPI is definatley one of them. On the other hand it might as well be your mobo/chipset's fault...who knows. I don't think even M$ knows it all...
