Any good firewall HAS to be a pain in the a$$ for the first week or so, until you configure it's rules. I don't trust outofthebox stuff, I'd rather tune it myself... AtGuard used to be such a firewall that drove u nuts with its popups, but after couple of days (seemed like years of patience), I didn't even notice I had it running If you want the BEST solution, go for Checkpoint's Firewall-1, lol. It's used by a lot of companies...I doubt u will have the cash to buy it, let alone configure it's different management consoles and stuff

"Guys what really makes WinXP better than Win2k pro?" P.R.O.P.A.G.A.N.D.A.

IBM doesn't build HDDs anymore...they sold the shop to Hitachi. Good deal, I say, I too had an 60GXP and it died on me after 3 months. I own a Seagate Barracuda ATAIV now, happy as they come.

Dunno man, but I would go for the GeForce 4. The ATI looks like a GF4 killer on paper, but in practice it's hindered by retarded driver support. However this used to be the case some weeks ago, problems seem to be minimal with the new driver release from ATI. In terms of raw performance, the Ti4600 IS the king of the hill in today's terms, no doubt about it. And since it's same price as the ATI, it should be a no-brainer. I am personally waiting for the GF4 Ti4200, Im on a tight budget, and it would make a good upgrade from my actual GF2-MX400

clutch, why u saying "quite well" ? Im still confused whether to get a Gigabyte 8SRX or an ASUS P4B266 (or P4S333/533). The Gigabyte has a very cool feature, which locks the AGP/PCI bus speeds when u overclock the FSB....
-
If u using DHCP, u can "release" and "renew" the IP from the DHCP pool
-
Actually I was looking at the Gigabyte 8SRX Much cheaper and overclocks better than the ASUS due to the AGP/PCI speed lock. Plus the ASUS has problems with overclocking and USB 1.1 devices

Partition Magic 7 won't help much because it doesnt recognize Ext3! Can you see the NTFS partition mounted from Linux? -
Depends on the P4 motherboard u want...if u get the Asus P4B266 it can work with older PSUs as well. And it's the best DDR P4 board out now.

Jeezus...I think Im last with my poor 3100 3Dmarks, lol. The videocard seems to make a huge difference.

Hey I saw you online, by the time I joined u were gone... The custom sounds annoy me as well, we're working on a soundpack to make it easier to dload (HL client crashes sometimes when u dload before a map starts). Shall we set a time? Now it's 19:00 PM CET (1 PM eastern), how about we meet in an hour or something? I have HLSW on and I see who's there

Damn, it didn't work out over the weekend, because they didn't have an outside Internet connection I couldnt even post the IP, but I'll do it now, maybe someone will join later on today... IP 62.4.82.26:27016 Have fun...post the pings u get, so we can decide if we got enough players to hold a frag session
-
**** i dont remember it, Im not at home so I can look it up in HLSW, and the homepage is down I'll post it in a couple of hours, make sure u check back this thread. I'll be online as I said from 8-9 PM CET (2-3 PM US east) onwards Show me what u are made of

Ok, I'll try to organize this...it would be indeed interesting to get ppl from US to play on our European server But it's worth a try. Our server is up, but the homepage is down due to a burst in traffic, since we're an official mirror for the CS/HL updates. I hope it will be back up in the weekend (www.hdx-world.com) I will post the server IP as soon as I remember it, lol I will be checking regurarly the server status (with HLSW) starting today evening around 9-10 PM CET (3-4 PM US East coast). Please use your forum nicks, so I know who's who On a personal note, I think that CS1.4 sucks major a$$. There is a huge difference between being able to run at full speed after one (1) jump, and bunny hopping (2 or more run/jumps). Not being able to move while u plant the bomb is also lame, the realism has gone out of it. I also noticed a higher % of headshots than in CS1.3...which can be both good and bad. Our server runs 1.4 by the way, so u will need to update. If the website is back up, u might want to dload the custom mappack (in the Server Info section on the left). Ok, till later

Lol how about we organize a CS session between board members? I can host it on my clan's server. Just let me know It could be done this weekend, Im at a LAN party from Friday till Saturday (maybe sunday)...

~3100 in 3Dmark2001SE (1024x768x32bit, AA off) Athlon 1.33 Tbird Epox 8KHA DDR mobo 512 PC2100 Samsung CAS2.5 Asus V7100 Pro (Geforce2MX-400) ... the rest doesn't really matter
-
Is your C: (boot) partition formatted in NTFS or FAT32?
-
Ok pmistry, u cannot really compare the K6 generation of AMD CPUs with the Athlons, can you? Sometimes 2 or 3 generations of products really bring improvements, I don't think the Radeon is anything close to the old Rage 128 chips.

How about MSI?

I just talked to a source of mine in a well known German computer store, and he said the Ti4200 will be available in the first weeks of May, at a price between €250-300! That pretty much ends my wait for the Ti4200, since it's still too expensive (at least in Europe). I was looking at the Radeon8500 LE (bit more expensive than a GF3Ti200 from Leadtek), but all those rumours about bad drivers for the Radeon still make me wonder...
-
What software are you guys using for this? And i don't mean BinChunker and such...Fireburner does not work with me. Same goes for CDRWin...

Dude, DX9 is not yet out...wait another 2 years for a DX9 compatible game too. Btw, I read that the ATI R300 samples need some serious wattage, they got their own PSU,lol. http://www.theinquirer.net/23040206.htm

Im planning on selling my VIA/Athlon setup and build me a P4 system. I want to go for the P4 1.6 GHz Northwood, it can easily be taken to 2.2 GHz and stable. The problem now is the motherboard, I'm really in a dilema...what should I get? Based on i845D chipset or SiS645? I don't need RAID or ATA133, just normal ATA100 and USB. USB 2.0 would be nice, sound or LAN onboard doesnt matter. Any suggestions anyone?
-
I changed my mind again... Now I want an ASUS P4B266-SE (LAN,USB2.0,sound)...can buy for €193. My question now is: with normal PC2100 RAM is should be ok to run the FSB at 133MHz (instead of 100)? It should push the 1.6A to 2.1GHz... To attempt further increases of FSB speed beyond 133, I should need better RAM, like PC2700 right? Makes sense?
