    A good P4 chipset?

Ok...DDR RAM PC2100...do the modules have to be CAS 2.0 or can I use the CAS 2.5? I want to just increase the FSB from 100 to 133 MHz, keep multiplicator the same, and use a 1:1 ratio (memory:FSB). That should give me 2.128 GHz The board Im looking at more and more is the EpoX EP-4BDA (i845D), btw. Just thought about it...even though the board supports "only" DDR266 modules, from a max FSB of 133MHz (x2=266 DDR), I could theoretically safely use DDR333 modules, enabling me to push the FSB to 150 MHz (300 MHz DDR). That would give me the magical # of 2.4 GHz (16x150)

    A good P4 chipset?

Ok thanks for the info... How about the PSU? Will a 250W do, or do I need a 300W+?

    A good P4 chipset?

Ok, suppose I go for Rambus...can I still overclock the 1.6 Northwood to 2.x GHz by changing the FSB from 100 to 133? Cos I haven't seen any reviews of overclocked Rambus based boards... Sometimes I wish I was in the States, over here in Europe everything seems to be so much more expensive...I can say that choosing the MSI 645 Ultra instead of a Rambus board will save me well over 100 € (80-90 US$). I use my PC for gaming (online), surfing and a bit of graphics. Rambus will give me the edge for sure, but it also sucks everything out of my pocket I'll see how things go...

    A good P4 chipset?

Not much faster... 1. They are becoming a pain in the *** due to the crappy platforms they have to run on. 2. They run damn hot. 3. They eat power a crazy (if u got a Geforce, forget anything below 300W, make it 350 minimum if u got extra cards/case fans/bla bla) OK! Seems like I made up my mind...it all depends on if I sell both 256 MB DDR PC2100 sticks, or just one. If i sell both then I'll go for the MSI 645 Ultra, and buy a 256 DDR333. If I sell just one stick, I can use the other in the MSI 845 UltraARU Makes sense, doesn't it??? PS - Opinions other than "Yes, it does"...or "I fully agree" will be discarded...

    A good P4 chipset?

P4 mates pretty well with the Rambus, DDR is kinda strangling the bandwidth. But its the price that turns me off Dunno what to say...I'll wait a couple of weeks (days), maybe I'll see the light all of a sudden.

    A good P4 chipset?

Ok so u're saying that the EPOX (i845D) board should be ok? I'm asking because I didn't hear of any problems with SiS645 chipsets...there is of course a 60 € price difference that I am obviously taking into account, I don't have cash growing on trees. Seems to me illogical that u guys are steering me away from a cheaper and faster chipset (the SiS645) That's why I would like to see some argumentation....

    A good P4 chipset?

Can you argument that somehow? Did u hear of performance/stability issues?

    A good P4 chipset?

The SiS645 supports DDR333 and it's cheaper than the i845. I was looking at the MSI SIS 645 Ultra and it seems quite good. Certainly faster than any i845 board. Add on the fact that SiS is an official licensee of Intel, and u can count on good quality stuff ...I guess.... I was going to wait anyways, 14th April is a Intel price cut day, as well as May 26. What is the 850 going to bring? Rambus, no thanks. Right now I have the choice between a MSI SIS 645 Ultra (107 €) or an Epox 4-BDA i845 (160 €). The Northwood @ 1.6 GHz seems to orbit around 212 €

    Machine Freezes on startup

Uninstall ZoneAlarm and get yourself BlackICE or something. Zone Alarm tries to configure the active network interfaces, but they are not set up yet (u haven't connected anywhere). Alternatively try to give your network card a fixed IP address, so it won't take time to look it up from a DHCP server.

    Weird behavior of INFINITE LOOP

2T timings seem to help a lot with the Samsung DDR modules. They are only CAS 2.5 (not 2), so 2T is recommended. I say this because I have 2x256 Samsung DDR sticks as well...

Is there a limit to the number of cameras?

Could be...thought at first those were 3 DV Camcorders or some crazy $hit like that. And $400 for a videocard, nah nah...no way...never!

    win2k mysterious crash problem.

Ok I guess you have the same problem I had...try using the 21.81 or 21.83 drivers, leave the >23.xx alone. If you were running XP you would get an infinite loop (manifests itself either locking up the machine like you described, or BSOD-ing around nv4disp.dll). Just give it a try. Also you might try to run your RAM at normal(standard) settings...CAS 2.5 is safe, try also 2T instead of 1T. Are you using any VIA or AMD patches?

Is there a limit to the number of cameras?

Not really, lol, I dont't have the dough to buy me even one, let alone 3 video cams

    Strange CS/TO problem

LOL. Maybe the server still allows custom forward speed variables...and everyone else is cheating except you Or try to run with your knife out instead of the m4a1 I have an Intellitype keyboard and it runs fine with the defaut software. Use OpenGL instead of DX video mode...
  23. Ok, it happened to me twice, had to reinstall Mandrake 8.2 twice... I resized some Windows partition with PM7, formatted it in Ext3 from the Mandrake setup, all went ok. Problems arise when you reboot in Windows and try to run PM7 again, it will report LBA errors. DO NOT attempt to correct them, because the partition will become unusable for both Windows and Linux I think it's because PM7 does not support Ext3 in the current release, only Ext2. The advantages of Ext3 (like ReiserFS) over Ext2 are evident, but that's another topic Hope it helps.
