It makes me scratch my head in awe... Picture Counter-Strike in OpenGL runs with over 100 FPS, I am using a ping optimizing script that limits the FPS to 85 (same as my refresh rate). When I try to run in D3D the FPS drop to 25-30 !!!! Anyone have any idea why? Specs: AthlonC @ 1.33 GHz, 512 DDR2100 Samsung, Asus GF2 MX-400, Epox 8KHA DDR mobo, CDRW/DVD, 2 NICs, bla, bla.....Detonators 21.xx, 23.xx,27.xx

And why the hell should I upgrade to Quicktime Pro just to see a trailer???? Am I missing something here?

XP uses space by default for System Restore (on all drives) and Hibernation (equal to your RAM). You might want to disable those to get your space back. Also if you have little RAM, the pagefile will take a lot of space as well (default on C)

I declare my IBM 60GXP 60 GB 7200 rpm DEAD... Around 20:37 CET on Feb 24,2002 the subject produced the so called "click of death". Cause of death still unknown, but preliminary reports indicate massive surface damage due to tons of bad sectors appearing overnight. From financial reasons the owner decided not to perform an autopsy, due to the fact that the store would like to have the body returned in a plastic bag Replacement with a different brand is possible. For all those wishing to pay tribute, the official burial ceremony will be held around 19:00 CET at the computer outlet store around the corner May his soul rest in pieces...Amen! =============================== PS - Pretty innovative for my 500th post, yeeeehaaaaaw

Anyone know when the wraps are going to be taken off this baby? I've already circled it as my next upgrade...gonna be US$199, prolly less on the Net.

There's something written on the backside as well, true? Then forget about it...

Clutch, if you buy a TV set, it comes with a remote control, right? In 100% of cases batteries are included, even if they are Rayovac instead of supergreat Energizer or some other $hit. Now, does the customer really care if the remote is going to last 50 clicks less, using the cheaper batteries? Or does he care more about having the thing up and running in no time? After all, he can buy whatever the hell batteries he wants next time.

The EPSON 580 USB that I have did NOT come with a power cable (let alone an USB one). I initially thought (me n00b) that it draws its power from the USB port, duhh. LOL So much for Epson...

found.000 are recovered files/data that scandisk/chkdsk recovers after a bad shutdown (loss of power, BSOD, etc). Also known as "converting lost chains to files".

I know the exact symptoms about 2 years ago. The only difference was that everytime I rebooted, it took less and less time before it hang. I had to shutdown, wait 1-2 min, then restart and it would either hang in BIOS or simply before even reaching the Floppy boot sequence, leaving me with no options. I couldn't even boot from floppy to flash the BIOS or something....after next CtrlAltDel it took LESS time before it died, and so on...the sequence was repeatable after I powered off and started again. I remember downloading a game demo from the (now defunct) 3dfiles.com website. It was a motocross game, you were riding a bike jumping on hills and stuff. At one point I was in the air, I hit a cloud, then I saw something written (?!?) in front of me, then the system rebooted!! And from then on, the stuff described above happened. I have NO clue to what might have caused it...other than something that completely phucked my BIOS. (virus?).

By the time a fully GF4 compliant game is released, the GF10 will be out

Quote: Well, with English being the strange language it is, either are actually correct. Although fish rather than fishes & mice rather than mouses is the preferred "Queens English" versions. So they use "mice" in Queens, and "mouses" in Brooklyn??

What does the bluescreen say? How about sharing that precious info with us?

Apache on Windows is pretty retarded...that's all I have to say.

I believe it's best MICE, even though I'm not a native english speaker Anyways, the Intellimouse Explorer is a bit "too" much of an artifact, I prefer the Intellimouse Optical. I found a good deal in a shop last week, a MS Internet Keyboard (PS2) and a MS Intellimouse Optical (PS2/USB) for 50 € <- this is the Euro symbol, lol. The bundle (it's one package) comes around US$ 45....or so.

Oh well, whatever I do, I need to buy something extra...either a longer rounded ATA100 cable or an adapter to fit 3.5In drives into a 5.25In slot...I'll wait and see if I get any problems, but I think it's ok so far. I'll run some Sandra Benchmark on it to see what it can do....

I just saw an IBM SCSI @ 15k RPM...access time was 2ms, hahaaaa

Epox make good boards as well...rockstable, good features and can be overclocked to hell as well As far as the whole combo, I would choose P4 (Northwood) + DDR Mobo. I heard a good deal is the 1.6 GHz Northwood, it can be taken to 2 GHz easily, it's cheap and runs stable too. As far as videocards, a good deal would be a GeForce 3 Ti200 with highspeed RAM (around 5ns, but no more). It can be overclocked from 175 (core) to 220 MHz, bringing it close to a Ti500 in performance. The GF4 is too expensive at the moment, plus there are no games to make it shine yet. Even the GF3 still has support for DX7 and OGL 1.2, the only advanced core is the ATI Radeon 8500 with full DX8.1 and OGL 1.3 ICD support out of the box.

Well, if I pair the HDDs together on a controller, it would be bad for HDD to HDD transfers. If I pair the DVD and CD-RW together it would be bad for on-the-fly CD copying. So what am I left with? Maybe switch the Maxtor to be master on IDE2 with the CD-RW as slave, but that won't bring a lot, would it? Any more ideas?

Desperation - how to display cd content on Pioneer DVD-116
Palos replied to Tomeq's topic in Hardware
Shoot up windows explorer (or My Computer) and right click on the DVD icon and choose "explore". (instead of AutoPlay or Open) -
Got my Seagate Barracuda ATA IV yesterday, it is indeed a wonder drive. With the case open I have to put my ear next to it to hear the disk activity! Very quiet indeed... Does the following setup look weird? Controller1: Master (Seagate 60GB UDMA100) Slave (Pioneer A106S DVD Multiword DMA2) Controller2: Master (LiteOn 12x/10x/32x CDRW PIO4) Slave (Maxtor 20 GB UDMA100) I know it looks weird for the 2nd controller, but I have cable limitations (too short).

Why don't you try a domain redirector? Like dyndns.com, for example, they work usually for people with dynamic IP addressing. At least they're for free...
