    Exchange & AD

Hey Guys, We’ve got a situation we are ready to go AD by upgrading our PDC from NT4.0 SP6a to Win2k and then AD from that point. The problem is we plan on taking our current domain ATCNTD1 to ATICORPORATE.COM and the main location in Long Island (Corporate HQ) will be a child domain ATILI.ATICORPORATE.COM, a child domain of the ATICORPORATE.COM (also at Corporate HQ). We’ve got multiple locations in our NT Domain (ATCNTD1) with our other Exchange Servers. These sites will eventually be child domains (e.g. Memphis ATIMP.ATICORPORATE.COM). Right now we are at ATCNTD1 and we want to be at a child domain level equal to all our sub locations which will also be child domains. The problem is we’re stumped about where we should locate our main Exchange Server (ATCNTS3). We want to use ADC for mirroring our Exchange Organization (2 Sites/Multiple Servers) users in AD and them converting all the accounts to 2k accounts but we’re not sure where we should place our Exchange Organization at the master level or the child domain level. Should Exchange information be put at ATICORPORATE.COM or at ATILI.ATICORPORATE.COM, any ideas? OLD Corporate HQ -----------------------T1 Frame--------------->Memphis Location (Domain) ATCNTD1 (BDC for ATCNTD1 Domain) MEMPHIS1 | | | | (Exchange Server) ATCNTS3 (Exchange Server) MPMAIL NEW Corporate HQ ATICORPORATE.COM *1 | | -------------------------------------------------------T1 Frame---------------- | | | | | | Corporate HQ Memphis Location (Child Domain)ATILI.ATICORPORATE.COM *2 (Child Domain) ATIMP.ATICORPORATE.COM Does the Exchange 5.5 SP2 server we currently have (ATCNTS3) get its information imported at the *1 or *2. Are we required to have the main exchange site located at the top level of the domain tree or does it have to remain at the Child level where our other servers for the users at Corporate HQ to find it. Should we: a. Create a new Master AD Domain first as ATICORPORATE.COM and then upgrade our current Domain ATCNTD1 to Win2K and AD at the child level ATILI.ATICORPORATE.COM, keeping the Main Exchange Server Organization and Site at the child domain level. Also this change will be in Mixed Mode for some older Win 9X clients. Will our other locations be affected if we do this as their exchange servers replicates with ours and we have the Web Outlook box that relays all incoming/outgoing messages to our ISP. b. Upgrade our current domain (ATCNTD1) to ATICORPORATE.COM and then create another child domain and migrate our NT4 and Win2k Servers to that domain but keep the Main Exchange & Web Outlook box at the ATICORPORATE.COM Level. How will our older 9x clients be affected if we put the main exchange server at the ATICORPORATE.COM Level instead of ATILI.ATICORPORATE.COM. Thanks PrinceAli0

    Anyone use HPT370 under XP

I know XP comes with the driver I knew that since beta 2 months ago when I installed it, what I was trying to say was install the latest and look at the performance increase, if you have a sound card giving a problem then this is probably a solution for you if you're using your HD on the Raid slots. Again I stress that only if you're booting of the drive that is connected to the raid slots. If you're HD boots off the VIA onboard IDE slots then you probably won't have problems with sound. Good Luck

Windows XP not detecting ACPI compliant system

If you are sure its ACPI Compliant then go into device manager and find the computer type, your current setup should say Standard PC, now select it and click update driver, go the advanced route to select a new driver from existing sets. Select ACPI Compliant PC or something to that sort, not the ones with extra details after it. Once you're done reboot, it will redetect all your devices again so have drivers ready on FLOPPY as your ide CD-Rom may not be detected yet. Thats it and all should be well. This process can go vice-versa too if you want to disable ACPI. Good Luck PrinceAli0

function key not working w/ sony vaio

I installed it on my sony vio laptop and everything works fine, can you give a little more specs on your setup so I can get an idea on what might be causing this problem. Can you use the FN key if you boot to a command prompt using a dos boot disk, if you can us the FN Key for sound and brightness then the problem is with the OS if it can't be used then you've got a problem with your setup. If it is with your OS try going in device manager and changing the keyboard type, it'll allow you to search or select from a list (think its called advanced) and select the sony driver if one is available, if not just try removing it and rebooting allowing it to redetect the keyboard. Beyond that you might have to wait for driver support from sony. Good Luck PrinceAli0

    Anyone use HPT370 under XP

Hey, Its the VIA southbridge that causes all the problems, just remember that. I'd be cautious and wait a little for the AMD 761 Chipset boards to come out with both north and south just for compatibility reasons as the VIA rigs have problems after problems and if you're going DDR the AMD setup is probably perfect for you. I currently own the KT7A-Raid, I like it but for someone who isn't willing to deal with too much tweaking and configuring the AMD route is the way to go. Just my 2cents PrinceAli0

    RC2 Upgrade from RC1

Thanks Guys, I feel confident that nothing will mess up with the upgrade, as I do have a fully functional working OS right now. Even though I was one of those crazy types that have always done a fresh install cause I feel its better I didn't want to take the risk as I finally got everthing on my Athlon box working correctly. Thanks for all the great posts. PrinceALi0

First off do you have any hard drives on the ATA100 Raid slots, if so then proceed. If you never had the sound problem in any other OS, kinda like I did, then your problem is in your Promise UDMA100 drive. Try to find a beta or the latest driver for Win2k for that device, if you find one give it a shot, if there isn't any out, just deal with it for now or go back to Win2k till there is an XP driver out there. Hopefully this helps you a little. Good Luck PrinceAli0

    internet connection sharing problems

Ok 1st nic lan network for sharing (clear all settings) 2nd nic has the pppoe DHCP connection (IP Automatically assigned) Remove any sharing information and setup. Now if you right click on 2nd nic in the properities page of "My network Place" and select create a new connection from the file menu, proceed with the on screen directions, it will automatically assign an IP to 1st nic for sharing and setup DHCP for all computers connected to the hub that 1st nic is attached to. Its not hard, if you have any trouble just ask. Good Luck PrinceAli0
  11. Here is your solution, give it a shot. Also you don't need to have an account on any other machine, just share it for everyone if you trust people on your local network. ******************************************************************** Are your computers are in the same workgroup or domain (that is if you have a domain running at your home or office). If they are not then thats where you should start, the next thing is they should all have IP addresses in the same subnet, e.g. ip 192.168.1.x, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.x(whatever you want the server to be if you have one, should be able to leave it blank). Once the machines can ping one another they should be able to find one another in the start search feature and look for another computer. Once you find each other you should be able to see the shares on each machine. The next step would be to setup actual shares on each machine for others to view, you could just select everyone for the permissions so anyone in your home can get access to that specific drive or folder. Let me know if you need anymore help. Good Luck PrinceAli0

    Win XP Network Lgoin

The other option would be to go to user manager in control panel and create another user this way it will prompt you for a login and password to use the pc. Good Luck PrinceAli0

Try removing all customization to the parent folder, e.g. my pictures and all the sub folders, then reapply to the parent folder, that worked for me. Good Luck PrinceAli0

    RC2 MSDN bad files?

Are you sure your burner is burning the ISO images correctly, I had this problem once and the cd had like 20 bad files on it that couldn't be read. Try burning at a lower speed and see what happens. Good Luck PrinceAli0

If you run a pc with onboard raid or UDMA100, your best bet is to try a newer driver for these devices, I had the sound crackling and sound crashing problems and took the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz route. This lead to no resolution, but then I installed the latest HighPoint Driver for my Abit KT7A-Raid and the Santa Cruz worked great. I don't mind wasting the money cause I think the sound is way better on the Santa Cruz. I decided to test it and put back my SBLive Platinum and it worked with the XP Driver. Just a thought to keep in mind if you're using the Raid IDE slots. Good Luck PrinceAli0

Blind leading blind?? Dude I've been in the PC business all my life and take it from me and anyone who builds pcs there is way more stability for the intel chipsets. There are no 4-in-1 bullsh*t and no major driver issues that will leave you with a BSOD in any OS you use 9x all the way to XP. Just remember that all major PC makers are still using the intel based PCs as their flagships for a reason, its less of a headache. Beleive me I'm and AMD supporter all the way I've got 5 of them in my house including my 1200mhz tbird running all on the VIA Chipset, it rocks, the only intel in my house is my server cause I'd rather have something more stable running at that level. For a starter or someone looking for less maintenance they would be better off taking the intel path. If you haven't read some of the reviews or worked on a SIS DDR Board you should say anything yet, performance wise it works better than a VIA based chip, but hey support may not be there. Regardless support isn't there for the VIA Chipset, so no road is safe. In my honest opinion if I was a newby I'd get an Intel 933MHz and an ASUS CUSL2 with some Mushkin SDRam and just go with that cause you'll get no problems there running any os. Just my 2 cents. RussellWild Your thoughts are taken well, but remember via has a turnaround time of like 6 months, look at the KX133, where is it now, no updates, less and less driver support, less motherboard bios updates. I've abandoned mine already, the same will happen for all the ddr chipsets by VIA, i think they refuse to take in mind the customers. I have had many successes and many failures with their chipsets. I own many different pc and I have to say the most stable still seems to be the good old BX chipset from intel. That chipset has had time to mature, in todays rush to bring out the greatest and latest hardware support chipset makers have forgotten the customer. AMD doesn't seem to care as it just puts something out for its new processors to run on, but can you blame them as they just want to make chips. VIA just wants to be at the top, ALI is playing catchup, and SIS is tweaking thiers out. My last hope for the AMD Processor is the NVIDIA chipset, I think its the only one that has potential, but we all thought that with the VIA KX133. Oh well, even though I respect the AMD Processor in my honest opinion I believe Intel will edge out with the best performance as they seem to continualy update and tweak their chipsets for the customers. Well thats just my two cents, like it, hate it, or forget it. PrinceAli0

    Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Problems

Hello, My System Specs: AMD 1200 TBird Abit KT7a-RAID Motherboard 256 MB Mushkin PC133 2-2-2 Ram 350 Watt PSU Leadtek 64MB NVIDIA Geforce Pro Turtle Beack Santa Cruz Sound Card (PCI Slot 3 - Sharing with nothing) Intel 10/100 PCI NIC (PCI Slot5 - Sharing with USB) Maxtor 40 GIG UDMA100 HD (Primary UDMA100 Master) IBM 45 GIG UDMA100 HD (Primary UDMA100 Slave) Yamaha 16x10x40 IDE CD-RW (Primary IDE Master) Plextor 16x DVD Drive (Secondary IDE Master) OS & Software: WinXP Professional Office XP + FrontPage EZ CD Creator 5.0 Power DVD I've got serious problems, I owned a SBLive and had all the crackling and distortion sound problems so I took the Santa Cruz route. I have to say the sound quality in XP is way better with this card except I get the same problem I was having with the SBLive except more frequently. I installed the beta drives off the website to no resolution. When I play MP3s or any other audio it just distorts and then catches up, its more frequent that what I got with the SBLive, any ideas. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I have a bad card, but I bought this card with its claims to get rid of the SBLive issuse and here I am having it more commonly. Please help with this problem ASAP. Thanks PrinceAli0

    Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Problems

I ended up installing the latest HighPoint driver for my UDMA100 Raid slots and it has minimized to almost not being there. In certain games like Crimson Skies it kinda crackles a little but for all intensive purposes its way better than the SBLive issues I ran into. Thank god for you guys and your helpful posts PrinceAli0

Hey, I know I'll get a lot of negativity for this one, but please for your own sake don't get anything from VIA, I've suffered too many problems with them. If you plan on going with a SBLive, GeForce or a Radeon don't waste your time. Don't be fooled, its only wide spead cause VIA had a chunk of the market from AMD because they were the first alternative. I think with better driver sets the ALI Magik, SIS, or even if u want to hold out the NVIDIA chipset will be a better alternative. Believe me I've owned every single VIA chipset out there and I've had many successes but when I have failure its just a blackhole. Hope this helped you, oh if you want to go with the AMD 761 DDR Chipset get the one without the VIA Southbridge, currently only MSI has plans to make one using all AMD parts. Good luck PrinceAli0
