Iknow there were BID problems with SP1, but I wasn't aware of the consequences of the problems. Sorry if it's old news (considering I found it on MSNBC, it wouldn't surprise me). http://www.msnbc.com/news/446162.asp ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

I believe oshie was referring to the non-Liveware utilities included on the CD. Via Voice and the like... ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Removing items from the quick menu??
PraetorJudis replied to crackmonke's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Go to Folder Options under Tools from Windows Explorer. Click on the File Types tab. Find the extension and click on the Advanced Button. Do NOT click on delete!! Select the Action you want to remove and clcik... Remove. Voila! ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw* -
For example: NET CONFIG SERVER /HIDDEN:YES This will cause several keys to be displayed that were previously hidden. Careful though, there are ramificaitons for doing this. Check MS TechNet for more information. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Those keys are invisible until you change a 'net server' setting from the command prompt... ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

...and you've got the correct Cd in the drive? ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

You are switching out the install CD for the game data cd, yes? I know it's the most obvious step, but it's best to start there. If that isn't the problem, do you have more than one CD drive in your system? ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Who reported that the Devil Inside demo works? And more importantly... WHERE did you get it?! ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

I agree, Ronin. Absolutely. Firstly, with W2k I never get to reboot my system when explorer hangs. I used to so love doing that under Win9x. Also, I have to deal with this annoying stability problem that the new OS kernel seems to have. What's up with that? No need to reboot at least once a day to maintain peak operability? What utter nonsense. Quake 3 Arena, Half Life, Unreal, Heretic II, even that pig of a game Ultima Ascension run smoothly with the drivers I have currently installed for my Voodoo 3 and SB Live!. Honestly. If the only reason you have a computer is to run games, then uninstall W2k, certainly. Go back to Win9x, you'll be much happier... just like MS said from the very beginning. Please don't come here to trash W2k, I'm sure there are plenty of Unix forums where you can go to do that. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw* I must be more tired than I thought. This message doesn't even make sense to me... [This message has been edited by PraetorJudis (edited 22 March 2000).]

I ran into the same thing. The patch is your problem. Copy the two sub executables off the Cd... carma2_hw.exe and carma2_sw.exe ...into your Carmageddon root folder. Voila! Functionality. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Standard program error? STANDARD program error? Hrm. Perhaps you use a less complicated version of Windows 2000 than I do. Sorry so snotty, but it's been a day of end users telling me that my need for information to help them recover from crashes is bothersome and that I should be able to wave my magic wand over their machines and deduce the problem without asking for input.... Please. When you ask for help don't say things like, "It gave me the usual error message," or, "I can't see what good your advice will do." It makes us less willing to take our time to give you FREE advice. Thanks for letting me rant. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Life IS good! I'll add a vote for Zone Alarm! Of course, I would like to be able to block specific ports and disallow specific types of traffic, but for a free prog, Zone Alarm is very very nice.... ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Hrm. I never tried to run it without patching it first... Runs fine on my system though with a Voodoo 3 card. It would help us to know which video card you are using, which sound card you're using, which drivers you have installed for the devices, exactly what the error messsage you recieve (if any) is, exactly at what point the crash happens, your shoe size, your aunt's (on your father's side) maiden name and any other information you might feel is helpful. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

SBLive Initialazation and W2K Very Loud when starting up
PraetorJudis replied to DarkWolf's topic in Hardware
Rude? Hardly. I don't mean to sound like a know it all, either. I just noticed the fact that the startup noise fires off before the LiveWare utility initialized. It's probably a LiveWare issue. Your counter point doesn't refute my statements at all... does it? ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw* -

Please remember to search the forums before asking questions that have been answered before. I usualy learn a few extra things every time I do. Regardless, here is the FTP site that jra101 set up for us. This is the full 70 MB package of the leaked Creative Drivers. You'll need WinRAR (or something like it) to extract the files. ftp://24.115.65.87/ ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*

Do you here that small *pop* immediately after the startup sound? That's the sound of the LiveWare 'manager' loading. You know... the utility in your sys tray that initializes all of your voume/speaker/environment settings? Windows plays the startup and shutdown noises... raw if you will, everything else is funneled through the creative utility.. ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw* -
My understanding of the auto-insert feature is that if explorer is open and you put a CD in the drive, the drive spins up and displays the autorun.ico and volume name in explorer. It's the base layer for autorun (turning off auto-insert in 9x kills autorun, but tweakui would allow you to kill just autorun and the auto-insert feature remained active)... Regardless, auto-insert should already be enabled under W2k, unless I am a) completing misunderstanding the question, or am deluded about the meaning of "auto-insert notification." ------------------ *gniltrohc yawa srednaw*
