yes yes yes yes yes .. create those system boot disks. remove all partitions and repartition your hard drive.

STability comes when you push the OS.. For instance write complex programs ...EVERYBody has memory leaks .. processes that dont die .. Games that leak memory Thats the thing about stability ..on 9x those sorts of things may or will mean a reboot. But on win2k it just keeps on going.

hmmm hard drive in power save mode? powers down so when you access it again it powers up. The same thing with your CD Drive ..the whole thing gets refreshed during a dirctory list so the OS tries to read the CD Directory ..tkaes a bit of time since it might have spun down. This may or may not be the problem...... I can't remember if there is a setting for the CD Drive not that you want to anyway ..but there definitely is one for the HDD to stop it going into power save mode or something .. least it gives you some ideas.

gnu C works just as well if you dont want all the flash and looks of visual c++ or borlands C builder.

sounds like tricks we use to play on each other. although a rather nasty one to play. sometimes ppl like to put in your startup or run or whatever .. a shutdown command or loggof command. OR the other heinous thing is Office 10 beta had the subscription thing in testing? and after all these months its kicked in ..realised you have a pirated copy of win2k and killed everything Try to install the recovery console from the win2k cd... see if a full resotre works ..otherwise its slash and burn.

It depends ... On how paranoid you are If its only you using the machine I would automate the logon process and blank the password. it then essentially boots up like 95 with no password and straight onto the desktop. Alot of my clients like that. I think i basicially said to them when they asked about hackers was this... * do you leave your machine on 24 hours a day? * will you be connected to the net in those 24 hours that its on * are you worried about industrial espionage. if you answer yes to those questions then by all means rename your admin logon otherwise make it easier to use your pc.. there is no need to login when you are the only one ..blank password is quicker because theres no encrypt and compare involved. There SOME benefits to leaving the Administrator logon .. Some programs hard wire this login name into their code ..bad bad bad. Essentially lazy programmers who check that you have admin priveileges by checking the login name ..(i've only seen this in some shareware stuff) When the correct way to do it is to check to see if the person is in the Administrators group. I assume these programmers came from a 95 environment. just my thoughts

Most often its the patches you've applied in the past that probably did not get applied to your new setup. I do this sometimes ..forget that i meant to add this and this .. So maybe VIA patches? AGP Patch from MS? Latest Max drivers SP1 Win2k thats all i can think of for now.

Let me just say the dream is over I dont they are bothering.

These days crackers are getting lazy ..they dont test their crack anymore. Theres no pride in their skills or work. Most crackers crack a game on their platform ..whee it works on 98 but not on win2k. Game in question AOE2 (nice one there fellas) If its a cd check thing ..you could try getting DAEMON tools which emulates stuff. Or you could try copying your cds using clonecd ..if your cd drive supports it.

Why is he being a *** ? This is an english speaking forum. English has been ACCEPTED by the united nations as the language for dealing on matters internationally. I am only replying because I recently went to France and nobody speaks english ..FAIR enough but then they look down on me because I didnt speak French. WTF was that? I felt like saying HELLO english is accepted now as the international language ..if it wasnt for ENGLISH speaking troops they'd be licking hitlers boots right now; how easy ppl forget and how ungrateful they can be. Dont bother flaming me i speak 7 languages It is always wise to study the ways of my opponents. -
I dont know if there is any need to upgrade STRAIGHT away. Especially if you are a developer, spending ages getting your env right ..you dont want to **** it up by putting in something new and basically untried by the general populace. The same can be said for gamers ..video card drivers take about 3 to 6 months to come out with updated drivers ...same with sound cards ..your gaming rig is fast STABLE and reliable ..why jeapardise that to try it out early? Basically those who do are the ones you see on the boards with classics like .. "WTF my VIA SMP Athlon just crapped it when i tried to play Q3" "When I select shutdown it doesnt turn it off" "Why isnt there acceleration for my video card" or the old fav "Why doesnt <APP> work in XP" Responses to all those questions are answered with "Wait for Service pack 1"

hmmm do you think if we played around with the demo and the proper game we could get it to work on win2k? The version number is the same on nbawin.exe It is definitely smaller BUT that could just be the code changes to stop us playing hte whole game AND the copy protection.

o i c So if some think its funny and we dont agree we must not have a sense of humour? It really was not at all funny. Attemp at clever misuse of the english language : 1/10 Trying to appear he was a country yokel attempting to write a review (SUCCEEDED): 10 / 10 Its not that the majority of us dont think its funny .. Its a case of simple things amuse simple people .....

Well i'm trying to work out whats happening during the update. I click the autoupdate. A box comes up.. verifying ..talking ..and then disappears. Is that it? or was there suppose to be like a progress bar that goes for 10 or mores secs. I get the feeling it didn't update.

You can burn .ISO files with Easy CD Creator OR get a utility called "BInchunker" which will convert it to a .BIN which can be read by CDRWIN although CDRwIN should also be able to do .ISO files ...if all of this doesn't work then grab FireBurner
