Spy Sweeper is much better, it detected 9 spyware/adware on my machine with ad-aware detecting none in the first place. Moreover, it is a freeware which you can d/l regularly from their site. -
Take extra care on using Java from Sun, malicious code on the web is flooding around with specific target of J2RE, and possibly also J2ME, as MS is not up[censored] the java code and the OS supports for which anymore, this could becoming more of a potential threat for windows users. Is this some kind of software bullying? I wonder.

It looks like something has wrong in the data transfer chain, may be its the IDE cable, try a new and good quality one; CRC on error poses major slowdown of even the fastest drive. Another possiblity is that you FIC mobo has a flaw, try to have your vendor technician to inspect and possibly RMA it.

Yeah, thats right. TI4200 give decent speeds in pre-DX9, and even some DX9 games; save those heavily optmised for DX9 titles. As for a GF4 card on this game, try avoid running the game in bilinear filtering mode, cos it shows some instability in doing so, stay with the trilinear filtering.

In fact, I have got some tryout on such an issue, I created some blank data files and make them into an archive, f you are interested you can check it our here: http://home.pacific.net.hk/~nv330/10GB.zip MD5: A83B4DEE998735A1F9A5767D328610CF BUT, be warned that it could cause your system to scan for some 15minutes for virus on downloading, this is just an illustration and I certainly not responsible for any lost incurred on your side should you give it a try, NOR I would be held for any onward misuse of such a loophole!. This is just to demostrate how easy it could create gigantic files into tiny size archive and potentially bring any system down to its knees. BE WARNED.

Try to scan some .cab files, the time taken will grow improportionately; there must be some glitches on scanning such files. Let alone some archives inside archives

Sorry for the delay http://www.warp2search.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=15891 This link explain the culprit, though I really doubt that they are telling the whole truth Dont try to update the `common client updats` as indicated by LiveUpdate, I tried on Liveupdate 1.8 and 2.0, they all produce the same hassles. take care, thats not the whole truth in front of you.

Hate to say, liveUpdate2 sucks the big time for certain people.

Oops! Thats even a small one, lol

Oops! Anyone still using NIS/NAV from Norton today? If there are still fans with them for what surfaced recently.

Up to now, LOTR:Return of the King is first title I would say fulfilling the *nvidia* term Cinematic Computing.

How does the following network behaves in different situations? machine 1 NIC binded to IPX/NETBIOS and Microsoft network client, no TCP/IP binding. A dialup adaptor binded to TCP/IP, but not to IPX/NETBIOS, and not to Mcrosoft network client. machine 2 NIC binded to IPX/NETBIOS and Microsoft network client, no TCP/IP binding. A dialup adaptor binded to TCP/IP, but not to IPX/NETBIOS, and not to Mcrosoft network client. they are connectd to each other via a cross-over cat.5 cable, no hub/router involved. Is ther some indication of problem of any kind that might arises? Thanks.
-
Alright, there is one I come across, FlexLM License Server installation on some professional software require a static IP for the NIC and TCP/IP binded to that NIC to function.

Hi all, does anyone here ever came across something that can do the duty of MS installer V2/V3, for some reason those installer left my system in mid-air when used; thanks for the advice.

When I use the registry hack or the gpedit.msc setting to disble latest version of Windows Messaenger 4.7 (version 4.7.2009) from being run, the problem of a stall of about 15 seconds exist when I start Outlook Express 6(sp1). Other than that it basically runs fine, what is the cause or fix with this? I also try to diable access to messenger using the "set program default and accesibility" function comes with XPsp1 but to no result.

If you dont feel comfartable then dont. I have disable this service since day 1 of my XP installation and yet to found the first app that need this to run with. take good care.
-
Note that you could possbily diable the "Remote Procedure Call(Locator)" service on your XP pro/home box as it is usually not required in most situations. This service usually log on as "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService" which might be the one account for the intrusion of those culprits. I have this service set to "manual" which practically disable it on boot up.

It is known that the single line of <input type crash> would crash IE, and this is due to a syntax error induce bug in IE. Try inculding the <body> tag into the page, such as: <html><body><input type crash size="20"></body></html> The problem apparently gone.

When use the latest version of LavaSoft Ad-aware(ver. 6.0 build 160) on my NTFS5 formatted XP pro SP1 installed Harddisk drive, the system would on some occasions reset by itself and without any warning message ever pop-up; it occurs during the scanning of the drive by ad-aware. It seems to be some kind of critical system conflict (might be file system), since the system is very stable hardwarewise beside this problem; I wonder if any of you have similar encounters. In my experience, this is likely to be some kind of critical GPF on certain files that would make the system to be self resetting.
