  1. Im running windows 2000 Professional and i have installed IIS and have ftp and www servers running fine, I intend using the www server to test web pages as i work on them, for testing and others reasons i will have people wanting to conect to my computer to view the pages. I have an awful 56k modem conection and a dynamic IP, Ive seen things such as http://www.dyndns.org/ to get a fixed hostname, but i was wondering if it was possible to configure windows 2000 to automatically register my IP with that when it creates a connection, possibly using a script, although i dont know too much about this any help would be appreciated.

Fixed hostname with a Dynamic IP

Yeah I shouldve made more sense in my original reply =) Well im going to have a look into using a script to hopefully automatically update eveytime a conection is made. After sometime using dyndns.org I have noticed that it can take 10-15 mins to update the IP to hostname, which when my conection gets timed out every three hours (It was every 2 hours, wonder why they called it screaming net?) could be a problem. I have looked at some of the other similar services and it seems like www.dhs.org may be the best one, although i would be interested to hear from anyone with there coments. DHS seems to manage to update IP to hostname within a couple of mins, which is good enough for me. The program i gave a link to earlier also works with this service, it is freeware also. I would certainly agree this is the best forum

Fixed hostname with a Dynamic IP

Well i had actually read that on the web site and looked at all the client programs thet had listed but i just didnt feel any of those clients were really as good as i would like i was hopeing maybe someone would at least suggest a better client. I have found one which iam quite happy with called DyneSite which works with a lot of services over than dyndns.org the address is http://noeld.com/download.htm However the dyndns.org web site does seem to suggest that it may be possible to configure windows to automatically do this when it creates a connection, i do feel a bit doubtfull about that but if it was possible i would expect that would be the best way to do it.

    ACPI and Processor Speed

I have a Gigabyte GA-5AA Ali Aladin V motherboard with bios updated to latest F3 revision, I have found it fully supports ACPI installation and works with only one problem, I have a K6-2 500 and for some reason windows detects the processor speed as being half the actual speed, the bios does display the correct speed at startup but in windows system information it says 251 Mhz. This wouldnt be too bad a problem but it makes most games run at twice the speend they are supposed too, which aint so good. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Ive tried everything i can think of, I know that installing as a Standard PC does correct the speed problem but them i dont get the power management which i find usefull, being able to let the computer hibernate and turn off is so usefull, but installing as a standard pc that wont work. I would be gratefull for any help on this but i fear there may not be any solution that it is either a bug with windows or my hardware.

    AMD CPU's and Win2k

I think i have figured out the problem it seems maybe its a bug with ACPI, i tested a few diffrent settings and when installed as acpi computer with 500 and 350 processor the clock speed is always reported as half actual speed, i tried installing as standard pc and it gives correct clock speed all the time, are you running as standard or ACPI? Changing to Standard has fixed all the problems i had although it means standby mode is no longer available i would like a fix for ACPI support anyone know a way, is it my motherboard or a problem with windows?

    AMD CPU's and Win2k

I just upgraded my processor from a K6-2 350 to a 500, and now i have this problem it always says processor speed is 251mhz, i have reinstalled many times and that never changes. Has anyone had any luck finding a solution to this? It is causing me a few problems and i installed one game which says i have a 90mhz processor when the game starts it just goes stupidly fast

    Hard freeze with win2000

i was having a lot of problems with win 2000 freezing randomly and i finally figured out the cause was faulty memory, maybe this is a problem for some of you, i have replaced the faulity ram and now my computer is working perfectly, i was finding that i could run win 98 and it wouldnt crash at all with the faulty memory, but i guess thats probably because win 98 doesnt use memory as much as win 2000

    Disable Version Checks?

You can use APCOMPAT from the SUPPORT folder on the windows 2000 cd to make programs think you have a diffrent version of windows, i have used this on one setup program before and it did work. Hope it works for you

    Office 2000

Windows 2000 i really cant find anything bad with it, the most annoying problem i have, if it can be called a problem is the open and save boxes in office 2000 using low colour icons, does anyone know how to fix that?
