    Burner and IDE probs.

I had some similar problems with adaptecs junk software, uninstalling and then reinstalling fixed the problem. Although the best fix is to not use any adaptec programs, try nero burning rom it works much better.

    Win on cd 3.7

I had that problem when using win on cd in windows 2000 it seems like it really messes up the aspi in windows 2000, although it may be something else, all i can really say is that fireburner is much better in windows 2000, in my case it has never burned a coaster. If you really want to use win on cd look for aspi32.exe on the adpatec ftp ftp.adaptec.com that will update the aspi to the latest version, which may help, and you could also look through the system aqnd system32 directories to remove the wrong file versions which get placed there by win on cd. hope that helps

    Has this been covered?

Well if you meant by actually calling the other computer using the modem which you would need 2 lines for then you could do that or conecting two computers with a parrell or serial port is another cheap way to do that, but obviously you wouldnt get the best performance.

    bizzare cd burner problem

The ASPI defenitley seems to be a problem with windows 2000, only the very latest version seems to work properly, but Adaptecs stupid program leaves you with copies of older version in places were they shouldnt be. If you have updated to the latest version you should check the files in system and system32 directories to make sure they are the right versions. maybe thatll help with some problems.

    CDRwin v3.8b

Well im guessing you havent paid and have used a keygem from somewhere, because CDRwin has pretty nasty protectin and if you use a keygen it sometimes will accept it and say it is registered and working perfectly but it just burns coasters.

    CDRwin v3.8b

Try paying for CDRwin instead of using a keygen that doesnt work properly and you would see it does work well.

Win 2K Me and the Bios update problem

Its not hard at all to make a dos boot disk with windows 2000 you can make one from the cd, just go to \VALUEADD\3RDPARTY\CA_ANTIV\ and make a disk easily. for anyone that knows how to use dos anyway.

    Live! Ware Drivers?

I have a sounblaster PCI 128, and have noticed the same thing the basic drivers seem fine but the updated drivers causing a lot of crackling, the only way to fix it seems to be to set the sample rate conversion quality from good to best in the audio properties allow that slows performance it does fix the sound. I really wish creative would get some better drivers out, ive been thinking about getting a soundblaster live, but with there driver situation im not so sure anymore, anyone know a good card with good drivers?

Speed of processor and Hard disk partitions

I may be wrong but doesnt windows use memory as chache for each hard drive partition so therefore the more partitions you have the more memory will be used, however i cant see that having any real relavance to processor speed.

Major Win2k problems! !!EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS!!

I have noticed faulty memory can be a big issue with windows 2000, probably due largely to the fact it uses a lot of ram, running windows 95/98 on my computer with some slightly faulty ram, it really was not obvious that the ram was faulty you just expect bugs and crashing with those, but with windows 2000 setup ran wierdly to say the least and when it was installed regular blue screens kept happening, i had been using win 98 fine on 64mb of ram but added an extra 64 to upgrade to windwos 2000 with good performance, i found out a lot later that it was the ram that was bad, really win 98 didnt particularly crash much with the bad ram but windows 2000 did at least every couple of hours, id say that ram is good thing to check carefully.

Win2k, Processor runnning at half power??

I have had a problem with this in windows 2000 in my case it was related to ACPI installs, if installed as a Standard PC then the processor would display correctly, the processor did work at full speed but with some programs the timing would be lost and things like the fading menus would fade faster. I think this most probably is a bug with windows 2000 i dont know what kind of processor you have but so far it seems only to affect AMD K6-2 although maybe others too. I would really like a solution for this too, been looking for a while though and havent found anything, sorry couldnt help more

    Remove IE 5.01 from W2K?

I dont know too much about this, but i believe that the people who made 98lite are planning a windows 2000 version if possible which would allow you to remove IE from windows and stop the intergration, other than that i dont think there is any real practical way to remove IE or install an earlier version. Im sure that it is possible to install office 2000 on a computer with IE4 already installed i believe there is a comand line option something like -NOIE that makes office not install or upgrade IE but you do lose some functions of ofice, i think web folders and maybe some other too. Im sure if you look through office documentation or something you could find the correct command
