Win2k and general game performance question

echo off start /high hl.exe After the game file, extensions can be added like -console, etc. The bat file has to be in the same directory as the game. But personally I use Windows Game launcher, it works great.

    Voodoo5 and OpenGL refreshrates

Hi all I have a problem with refreshrates in OpenGL. I have used refreshrate utility, but still have a problem. If I use 120Hz (my standard in 1024) the games is showed as a windows inside a black screen the size of my desktop (1280*970). And the monitor says 60. In other words the window where the game is is just 1024 as a small window inside a 1280 black screen. And its still 60Hz Hope you understand what I mean. The problem is in Quake3 and Serious Sam. But not in Glide games or D3D. Please help me.

    Unreal Tournament and RAM

Hi. I have installed win2k many times but allways gone back to win98 due to the lack of drivers for some of my hardware. The thing I have been pleased with is the performance in UT in D3D on a GeForce. Much better than in win98. I used to have 256MB ram but now I have only 196MB. I didnt think about it and installed win2k (now that all the drivers I need is here) and fired up UT. hmmm the performance was not as good as I remember. The game chached really heavy on my harddrive. Has anyone else experienced UT using a LOT of RAM? I guess I just have to get back the 64MB a friend borrowed.

    Unreal Tournament and RAM

Yepp the GeForce has similar frames than the Voodoo3 with one major difference. Even though the Average fps is the same the MIN FPS is much lower. In a big room with some people I can get unlucky and get 15fps- But I think the prosessor is very important in UT in d3d. I have heard people have 50fps all the time in 1024. And they have like PIII-700 or something. I have Celeron 450 so I guess its a little slow

    Quake3 and SMP

This subject is beat to death but new drivers come and so on ... I have a creative Annihilator Pro and use the 5.13 beta drivers. I only play in 1024 with everything maxed so I dont bother to test with anything else. With SMP enabled the fps dropped approx 10fps in demo 1 and 2. I have enough frames for two computers but I dont know what I should do. I read sometime that Carmack said that SMP helped in worst case scenarios (10people and massive blood) but since Q3 doesnt registers MAX and MIN fps Its kinda hard to figure out if the frames are higher in worst case scenarios. I disabled SMP for now. The 10fps drop seemd a little much. Any similar experinces?

    Unreal Tournament and RAM

160? that might very well be correct considering: I have 256MB- no hdd chaching with 196 I had hdd chaching. that is 64MB difference, and cince win2k use maybe 70MB just to run 160+70= 230 (196 to little, 256 enough)

    sblive and SoF problem

I don't have that problem, BUT the current liveware from Creative has major problems. Some people claim that Half-Life freeze and I have ha problem in UT when I enable EAX. In mid-may the next LiveWare comes, (3) we hope this fixes some problems

Why does Liveware 3 for Windows2000 suck?

I get a real crappy sound in UT when using EAX. have to turn ot of or the crackling and sparkling destroys my computer. Hope the LW3 will fix things. Have no problems in HL and Q3 thank God.

    Unified in Win2k

I installed the Creative win2k drivers but when trying to install Unified it stopped and said I had to have a riva card. Lame I have GeForce. Does anybody have the glide2(3)x.dll file from Unified?? If anyone want to know why the hell I want Glide is because of Rollcage 2, D3D doesnt work but Glide does.

    Unreal Tournament and RAM

Yepp but you use Glide. UT allways flies with Glide But I agree. It seems strange that 196 instead of 256 can make the difference. But if it is not that then its something else with my win2k setup. buahah hope not

    HELP! All Win2k gamers needed!!

I really think win2k will be a good gaming platform. Because of the solid DirectX supprt and the fact that with enough RAM its faster than win98 Its my choise not only for stability but for gaming. Most games and developers will be forced to make their games compatible with win2k, and there is really no reason not to. NT's problem was the lack of DirectX and just the same a lot of Games had NT support. Atleast a lot of mine. And considering win2k is much more game-friendly than NT i think they will support it. It seems like a lot of develoers dont understand that many people use win2k. for example Creative, Miro and HP. They are on some product extreamly slow in realeasing drivers. I dont know why but I think they will be punished by the users if they dont improove. I really hope users will stop buying products that are not supported.

    Overclocking GeForce - for what?

I have overclocked the Annihilator Pro much Using Q3 as a test: in 1024 (nothing else is interesting) with everything maxed I get a 3-4fps increase on demo001 by increasing the clock to 135 and RAM to 330. 3-4 !!! I dont notice that. And! my GeForce sometimes lock ut by increasing the Hz that much. By setting it even lover there is absolutely no point. And even though things allways seems fine in Q3 try UT UT is extremly sencitive to overclocking. I dont overclock my card but feel free to try it. Coolbits work fine on the 513 drivers.

Quake 3 Arena on SMP system

No 3dfx drivers support smp, how you were able to enable it, and get better framerates is strange.

    Dell is just faking support

I have tried the new drivers, but do they really work? I think there is a reason why Creative is still working on their drivers. I must admit, Dell got all the old programs to work, and all four speakers, but where the EAX? In no game I have tried does EAX work. The game tries to use it so apparently the support is there, but the sound quality is really crappy. It is so bad you have to turn it off. And after trying out the SBLive! Experience program I found out that there is no difference between the speakers. All four are just as loud all the time, even if I place a sound in one of them only. So, no Surround and no EAX Dell: Go back to building computers and DON'T try the software business.
