    Restart/blue screen Live! fix

Quote: Originally posted by Mattchris: they are devcon32.dll and ctmm32.dll. I know that ctmm32.dll is the Creative Technologies Multimedia Mixer, but I have no idea what the other one is. 2. hi athlon users ! we dont seem to be able to narrow down the problems on athlon/geforce desktop lockups so lets start a poll and see if there are athlon users that can run 3.78 without lockups .. please reply: (example and my config) ------------------------------------- _athlon_: 500 _board_: gigabyte 7ix _nvidia_card_: creative geforce sdr _driver_results_: 3.66 beta driver runs stable in d3d, opengl and on desktop - i use powerstrip to force 1x agp 3.78 (and all other betas above 3.66) produce random lockups on desktop - no matter if powerstrip 1x agp force and without powerstrip at all and yes i did a complete old driver remove (deleting oem*.inf,nv* files) -------------------------------------- please reply even if it works perfectly for you with 3.78 or everything else! thanks

    Dell's SBLive! drivers....

just delete them manually Jabba .. Windows Commander did the job for me - the .cmd file is still great for testing if everything is removed .. just run it and see if there are still some "Could not delete"'s edited: oops didnt see all the replys.. ignore this post [This message has been edited by Distar (edited 20 February 2000).]

ok tried it with shrinks description and i couldnt fix it for me tried the patch file posted on the main page and it didnt work either coz the .cmd file doesnt remove the write protected files but !! if i delete the files from the .cmd files manually in protected mode IT WORKS (and they said imitation diamonds werent good enough) happy liveware 2.2 user now

    Dell's SBLive! drivers....

exactly the same problem as rrunner here - and i never installed the liveware3 hack .. if i replace the emu10k1f file with emu10k1 thats previously installed (rename) i can boot the new drivers without the bluescreen but i cant use any of the dell-liveware applications (they appear in the process list but just dont open)
  6. locks up with my athlon 500/gigabyte 7ix system like every other nvidia beta driver above 3.66 using 3.66 beta again

    very strange reboot issue..

just disable "reboot on system failure" in control panel / system / advanced / startup and recovery ... win2k will show u a nice bluescreen then instead of rebooting and you can actually see what application caused the crash its not a bug - its a feature

Spontanious restarts and lock-ups VERY often.

To get rid of the restarts: disable "reset on system failure" in Control Panel-> System -> Advanced ->Startup and Recovery this feature lets win2k reboot with every bluescreen and you wont be able to see what application caused the crash if u are using AVP Antivirus - the System Service installed by AVP 1.31 makes a bluescreen while scanning some files (its not the AVP monitor but an avp system service thats being installed even if u dont use the avp monitor) To get rid of the lockups: use the nvidia 3.66 beta driver - it seems to be the only reliable nvidia driver yet

    Forcing AGP 1x for Geforce

Hi ! Ive got the same problem with my Athlon System and Win2k - the only Nvidia beta driver that does not lockup is 3.66 beta. I use powerstrip to force the system to 1x agp mode.
  11. I tried all Nvidia beta drivers - the latest drivers that run stable (no lockups on desktop) are 3.66 beta with Powerstrip force 1x agp. Everything else (tried 3.69, 3.72, 3.75 and 3.76) lock up randomly on the Win2k desktop - and in Everquest. Quake3 seems to run stable with all versions so the opengl part doesnt seem to be affected by the stablity issues. I dont really trust that 2x AGP with Athlon Irongate boards ... the drivers set it by default but its a known chipset problem so i doubt a driver can fix it ... well even if i force 1x AGP with all newer betas i still get the lockups... I use an Athlon 500 on a Gigabyte 7IX(C4), 256 mb ram and a Creative SDR Geforce. If anyone else experienced these kind of problems with drivers >3.66 please reply - want to know if its just me or a real problem Thanks, Distar
