    SOF Demo Problems

I just installed the SOF Demo and everytime I start the program (double clicking on the icon) my machine locks up. I'm using a TNT2 Ultra (Nvidia Win2K drivers 3.76) with Win2K build 2195 . UT and Q3 both works with no problems. Anyone have any ideas? [This message has been edited by Chum (edited 14 February 2000).]

    SOF Demo Problems

Thanks for all the replies. Here are my systems specs (well, all the specs that are important): Intel PIII 550 256 MB PC-100 RAM TNT2 Ultra As mentioned, I've installed the 3.76 drivers and while everything else works (UT, Q3, HL, etc), SOF locks up my system on startup. I've thought about installing the 3.69 drivers, but had a few questions: 1. Are my other games (UT, Q3, etc) going to see any performance decrease from going back to 3.69? Also, anyone have a good site that archives the earlier driver sets (ie 3.69)? 2. What is the suggested method of changing driver level? Should I go back to the native TNT2 drivers first? I heard something about erasing all of my current nv* files, but wasn't sure if that was needed (or what should really be deleted for that matter). Any help would be greatly appriciated. 3. After searching the forum, I found references that said the stock Win2K drivers wouldn't work as there was no OpenGL or AGP support. Well, I installed the latest (3.76) drivers for the TNT2 and I still get the windowed version. I checked my DX7 control panel, under DirectDraw (not sure if this is even the right place to check) and when I click 'Installed Drivers', the box comes up blank. Isn't there supposed to be drivers listed in there for my TNT2? I then tried to reinstal DX7 from a site that had the DX7 install for Win2K. This didn't seem to help either. Even though I tell it to use DX7, it still seems to use the Software in the window. One last question also: When installing UT under Win2K, should I select to include the DX7 components that are on the CD? I wasn't sure if that would mess things up. Any help would be greatly appriciated. - Chum ---------------------- System Specs: Diamond Viper V770 Ultra PIII 550 w/ 128 MB RAM Win2K Professional (OEM - not RC)

    Windowed UT w/ 3.76 TNT2 Drivers

YuppieScum: Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify - I'm using build 2195 and I am trying to run UT in D3D mode. 1. When you say don't install the DX7 kit - you mean the kit that comes with the UT install correct? 2. I installed the latest patch for UT (405b). 3. I wasn't aware there was a D3D update for UT - where can I find this? 4. As mentioned, I used the 3.76 drivers. When I run dxdiag, under the 'Display' tab in the notes section it reports: "The file nv4_disp.dll is uncertified, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a certified driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device." It is listed as 'Not Available' for D3D and AGP support. After reading through all posts concerning UT and TNT2 drivers I've seen some comments on installing the updated drivers. 1. The first time I installed UT, I installed the kit. Did this install some drivers that will confuse UT? I uninstalled the game, but wasn't sure if they would be cleaned out. 2. My system seems pretty hosed at the moment. Would you advise reinstalling? And if so, when should I specify the video drivers? What version would you suggest I use? Thanks for all of the help, and sorry I wasn't more specific on my first post. -Chum
