Network browsing in XP - Crashing explorer.exe
Anon-65e40e4a71 replied to Anon-65e40e4a71's topic in Networking
1. Are they all in the same Workgroup? Yep, MSHOME 2. Can each of the clients ping the other? Yep 3. Can you browse each machine by going through the UNC path from START \ RUN \ "\\Mymachine" without the quotes (or "\\192.168.1.12" ? Yep 4. The windows firewall is disabled? Yes, running ZoneAlarm 5. Simple file sharing is disabled? Yes 6. As a side note, double check your Share AND NTFS permissions. Done, sharing is ok. 7. An internal LMHOSTS and/or HOSTS file may help resolve internal names. Not sure what this is... Tried doing a search but found it confusing, either that or I am searching for the wrong thing. Cheers. -
Hi there, Right, got a h000ge problem with our network here. 3 computers all running XP Pro + SP2 (2 of which are fresh formats). Using a Netgear DG834 for routing services with ADSL, which is working fine. The problem is accessing files over the network. We all have shared folders (no printers), yet when you click "My Network Places" then click on the computer it will hang, then explorer.exe will do its thing and crash All computers are on the same workgroup so thats not an issue but we all have ZoneAlarm installed, we tried disabling ZoneAlarm but it didn't seem to have much effect. Have added our IP range (Zen ADSL with 8 IP's routed) to the trusted zone in zonealarm too. Anyone ever had this problem? Seems WinXP doesn't like sharing folders!

I am trying to get GTA3 installed onto my other pc to see how it runs etc. Its an AMD Duron 900Mhz, ECS K7S5A mobo, 256MB Crucial ram, Voodoo3, SB Live 1024, etc running on a new install of Win2k Pro with SP2 It all runs quite well and its really fast. I put the GTA3 cd in, let it auto-run, click on OK then it stops with this error msg: Quote: The InstallShield engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed. (0x10000) Anyone help me?

Is the card overclocked? Is it cooled efficiently? Try sticking a fan on it.

Hi, I just installed C&C Red Alert on my WINXP box and it went fine as long as it was run in Win95 compat mode, is there a piece of software that'll enable me to run things in win95 compat mode on my WIN2K box? Any URL's would be appreciated as the MS site doesn't like me

I left my AMD platform, not because of AMD, they make good chips, it was because of VIA and there lack of ability in designing a chip thats no only super fast but super reliable/stable. Intel design's good chips as well but there chipsets are second to none for compatibility. I use a SiS 645 chipset in my P4 system and I agree that I might have lost some compatibility but I have never experianced and problems with this setup unlike with my AMD/VIA setup.

I used to get that. what causes it?

Should I disable ACPI so all my PCI devices have their own I
Anon-65e40e4a71 replied to DARTH maul's topic in Hardware
I disabled ACPI in the BIOS before I install WinXP, now all my devices have there own IRQ, one down side is that you need to press the power button to switch off the pc now ;(
