Yoper Suse Linux 9.2 Simply Mepis Xandros Desktop 3.0 Deluxe CentOS I have tried Yoper, Xandros and CentOS briefly. Xandros seemed to have the most included nice software and very user friendly but unlike Yoper which installed 3d enabled Geforce2 go drivers for me at install I still cannot figure out how to install same type of drivers on Xandros. Yoper allowed me to set monitor 1600x1200 lcd which is correct. Xandros would stick to super vga 1024x768 no matter what i did. Yoper also seems much faster than Xandros on my P3 lappy. Ok comment away [Edited by pr-man on 2005-02-19 17:14:12] -
ok I dual booting Winxp and Xandros Desktop 3.0 Deluxe right now and I have to say for for my first real fling into Linux I really like the look and feel of Xandros 3, install was a breeze and it seems to be very stable so far. I was searching around the web and saw the webpage on Yoper. That one looks really nice also, Has anyone used it and how friendly is it to XP users? Im sure it doesnt come with all the bells and whistles that Xandros 3 deluxe does but i have the beginning of a little linux bug now LOL. If onlu I could get some of my older games to run under Xandros. (still trying to figure out how to install updated Nvidia drivers for my GF2 Go 32 meg on my lappy.)

Xandros Desktop 3.0 Deluxe: Perfect Distro for Xp user IMHO
pr-man posted a topic in Everything Linux
I am brand new to Linux and I have been looking around at the various distros. A friend of mine had a new copy of Xandros Desktop 3.0 Deluxe so I decided to try that on my laptop. Install was a breeze and it even auto resized my NTFS XP partition so I could dual boot Xp and Xandros. Xandros has the 2.6.9 Kernel and built in VPN, NTFS support (i could see and manipulate anything on my XP partition with ease from the start). Built in Crossover office, dvd burning, cd burning, firefox, thunderbird. Alot of it looks and works like windows which was cool. I just got back from the coffee shot where I was testing out my wifi card with it. Only problem I had was the monitor comes up as super vga 1600x1200 but everytime I try to change it to laptop LCD 1600x1200 it reverts back to super vga. also it says 1600x1200 but its really running at 1024x768. I wonder if its a limitation to the built in Geforce 2 Go driver? Maybe someone can point me to a better driver? http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1738515,00.asp -
if i want to keep xp on there but dualboot do i just run the linux install and it will create its own partitions or do i have to use partition magic to make partitions and then install linux
-
I have a inspiron 8000 laptop that I have winxp pro on the main partition but I was going to maybe make a small second partition on it and install a flava of Linux on it to dabble for the first time. I have never used Linux before but for some reason feel that it is something I should try to explore. What is the best and easiest distro for me to use considering that im a hardcore Xp pro user (and windows and general) though my first computer ever was an Apple IIc LOL (i loved it though, can anyone say Lemonade Stand? Ha Ha) Here are the specs of the laptop P3 1ghz 512 megs PC133 30 gig HD Geforce2 Go 32 meg dvd/cdrw drive 15" UXGA MN-520 Wifi card

how about Centos 3.4? I heard good things about that.

Question about dual booting WinXp pro and Linux
pr-man replied to pr-man's topic in Everything Linux
Ok when i installed xp i created only one 30 gig partition. so that means I have to use partition magic? -
Ok its an Insprion 8000, here are the specs. I want to see what you guys recommend I put on it for OS for best performance and usability. P3 1ghz 512 megs Pc133 GF2 Go 32 meg (about to upgrade it to a GF4 440 Go 64 meg) 30 gig HD Microsoft MN-520 wifi card dvd/CDrw drive 15" UXGA
