Ok Im installing Win98SE on my desktop, what are the best performance enhancements or tweaks I can use to get the most out of it ------------------ Celeron 300a@464 on a Abit BH6 Rev 1.01, 192 Pc100, Matrox G400 32 SH, SBlive Value, Supra Express 56i ISA, all running on Win2k pro with other odds and ends

Ok I installed win95B on the laptop and all went fine (installed it from cdrom, using win98 boot disk to start with cdrom support) now after all was install and desktop came up it started trying to install stuff for the pc card support and infared sensor in the back for wireless printing. It then could not find the drivers because it did not see the laptops cd-rom anymore. I looked in device manager and there was a exclamation point on the IDE controller. The only way I could get the cdrom to be recognized was to load up the oakcdrom.sys driver from the win98 boot disk via the autoexec and config.sys. Thus giving me the cdrom but causing both the HD and cdrom to run in dreaded msdos compatibility mode. Any ideas guys? Both win98 and win95B will not recognize the drive but win98SE detects it with no problems. I just want to see if I can get win95B to work before going back to win98SE. Well I put WinMe final on, and it runs ok but I think Win98SE would be a better performer. Any good tweaks for win98? I tried installing Win95b and Win98 but neither of them after the install could be coaxed into seeing my laptops cdrom, wierd since Win98SE picked it up right away. Sucks though because Win95B speed was was clearly the fastest of all of them. Ok I am currently running Win2k and love it, only problem is that I want to do some video editing with my PCTV pci and none of the video editing software that came with it works with win2k so I have decided to dual boot. Now out of win95C, win98FE and Win98SE (im not even considering WinME) is the fastest for video editing? Some people have told me that win95C has the fastest DMA and memory transfers, and some people have told me Win98FE is much faster than Win98SE. Ok guys I need help and fast. I got this laptop from a friend. It is a HP omnibook 2000cs, it comes with a pentium 166 mmx, 80 megs ram, 1.93 gig HD, 16 bit sound, 56k megahertz 3com pc-card modem, 20x toshiba cd-rom, Chips and Technologies 65554 pci video. Well the computer came to me running win98se, I decided to format the HD and reinstall win98se. after that I also found the most recent drivers for the 65554 pci video card. After installing the drivers I noticed that I started getting graphics corruption of different kinds, when the monitor would shut off and then I would move the mouse to reactivate the entire desktop was tyedyed in rainbow colors. Also I frequently get thin pink or light green vertical lines all across the screen. Also if I go in the setup utility (or bios) all the text is corrupted and unreadable (almost looks like german) even when i reboot the reboot screen with the processor type ram etc is sometimes messed up either with "'s all over the screen or the words on the screen are mispelled. I removed the new vid drivers and even went so far as to format and reinstall win98se but problem still exists. I did notice that if I firmly tap on both sides of the monitor some or all of the corruption goes away, sometimes. I also ran the HP diagnostic disk and it says all hardware is fine. Please help me out here, Im at my wits end. I really need the laptop to work. Also I did hook up an external monitor and the corruption shows up there as well. Now as a side note I also noticed that it takes about 20 mins for the problems to start showing themselves (heat related?) and also if I tap the lcd screen on both sides firmly the lines and corruption go away immediatly (loose lcd connection?) Unfortunaty I have never taken a laptop apart so I am kind of leary about trying to see if the connection is loose. ------------------ ***TRUST IN YOUR TECHNOLUST***

In win98 my g400 32 meg has about 94 megs of texture memory when i have the apeture ste to 128 in the bio but in win2k it never goes over 45 megs which subsequently will not allow me to run the 64 meg texture test in 3dmark2000. I have tried all the dx8 betas but see no differece. 3dmark2000 says its either Matrox or win2ks fault. Matrox says they find nothing wrong with their drivers so I guess it must be win2k. Well I tried VirtualDub, problem is it wont run the capture unless I set the source to 320x 200 but the capture card can do up to 640x480 fullscreen, any ideas?
