Ok I had posted my problem with having to use a 4 meg apeture in Windows 2000 to get to the desktop and how it was limiting me to only AGP 1x. Well today was a good day, I called FIC tech support and left a message, lo and behold they called me back 5 mins later and twice after that They said that they were not familiar with my problme but that was because they have never tested the G400 and the PA-2013 rev 2.0 using windows 2000. They have however tested the combonation using the PA-2013 rev 2.1 board and have had no problems at all. He suggested that I switch to the rev 2.1 board since it is Windows 2000 certified. He also said that if anyone else is having the same problem im haveing with the rev 2.0 board and windows 2000 and the g400 to call them and if enough call they will test it and create a fix. Here comes the good part. he then offered to switch out my rev 2.0 board for a rev 2.1 at no charge which I am going to do Ps. He also said he will contact VIA and see if they know anything about problems with their win2k AGP driver call them here and let them know your problems and they will test it and make a fix. He said they can only fix what they know about (510) 252-7777 ------------------ ***TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST***

4 meg Apeture Size problem with G400 and Win2k, FIC TECH UPD
pr-man replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
ok well i tried disabling the busmastering in display properties and it allowed me to change the apeture to 128 and get through startup but agp 1x is still the only active, plus I refuse to believe that this is the only fix because disabling busmastering is like cutting the G400 in half performance wise anyway (plus never had to disable busmastering in Win98). Well I ran powerstrip and got something interesting from the pcilist info. Why are their two listing for pci bridge and why is one disabled? I am having a problem playing Halflife in windows 2000 pro. I installed the game and also the latest patch, when i play in direct3d the game plays (very fast time wise by the way) but the console "~" is not available and if I hit esc I get no menu but a black screen. If I try opengl I either get a white screen after starting a new game or it locks up at loading. Any ideas? Now as a sidenote I am limited right now to AGP 1x only (bios apeture set to 4 megs because of a problem with my PA-2013 rev 2.0 K6-2 450 128 megs G400 32 meg SH using 5.03 drivers ------------------ ***TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST***

thx fixed my problem. had bad files -
Well not totally related but I have a Diamond Supra express 56i ISA internal modem, windows 2000 recognizes it and installs a 1998 supra driver and lists the modem as a Diamond supra express 56i v90 voice which is corrected but I have many problems with it such as dopped connections right after checking password and windows 2000 not finding the modem even though it is listed and operational. I am assuming that when Diamonds new win2k drivers for my modem come out these problems will cease. actually i have talked to diamond and they said to expect the new drivers anytime now.

Well I have Win2k (2195) working well with my system all drivers installed during setup. only problem I had was that after installing the 5.03 or 5.01 drivers for the matrox G400 32 meg all I would get was a black screen. I tried everything I could and finally found that the only was to fix it was to set my Apeture in the bios to 4 megs. Anyone else have this problem or have another solution? My pc is set to standard pc (not ACPI) and I have a FIC PA-2013 rev 2.0 running a bios which FIC tech support sent me. They said that it was the best one to have for win2k. Is the problem solely the motherboards fault? Or does it have something to do with the still unfinished Matrox drivers? Thx. Jediphoenix PS. I think it is a VIA agp filter problem ------------------ http://jediphoenix.iscool.net/ ------------------ ***TRUST IN YOUR TECHNOLUST***

Well I have a K6-2 450 128 megs of pc100 sdram and my system seems very sluggish memory wise as well more so than it did in Win98. I wonder if there is a way to optimize memory in Win2k pro ------------------ ***TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST***

I have Windows 2000 pro 2195 installed and I have a Diamond Supra express 56i ISA modem installed. When I installed win2k it installed the drivers for the modem and it shows as Supra Express 56i v90 voice. The modem works but sometimes I will dial up and then after checking the password it will come up with the error that the device is not available. Sometimes I will try to dial up and it will just say that it cant find the modem and when i goto device manager and look the modem is there but with a yellow exclamation point and says not available. If I reboot sometimes it works again, but sometimes I havwe to reboot 3 or 4 times. This is wierd. Any ideas? pr-man ------------------ ***TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST***
