Hey i downloaded the FC3 dvd iso but cant seem to find a LIVE cd for FC3 anywhere for me to try first. Anyone?

Im going to be running WinXP pro as my main OS but I have never tried Linux before and would like to dable. These are the specs of the laptop and im curious which version of Linux you guys would suggest for a Linux newbie. Hey out of Fedora Core 3 and Ubuntu which do you recommend as better? I havent had a chance to take a look at mepis yet.

What programs etc do you guys use to test out laptops and to make sure all is functioning etc. The laptop that is coming is a Sony Vaio PCG-FR130 AthlonXP 2000+ 512 megs pc2100 GF4 420 16 meg 40 gig HD CDRW/DVD 14" XGA etc etc

no thank you for the advice I just wanted to cover my bases. By the way when I red you post I actually was Ubuntu Live CD LOL I really liked the look of it in the screenshots. Now if I can run the OS from the cd etc I am assuming I can just test out the OS and not install any linux software etc correct? hehe also just to make you jealous I picked up that lappy in mint condition for just $500 shipped, I couldnt believe my luck

ok I have like 5000+ pictures of my kids etc so far which I have backup on dvd-r. Problem is that they are really not organized and just thrown into various folders etc. what is the best software package out there to help me easily organize and backup my pictures onto dvd-r?

Ok I just picked up a used but perfect condition Sony Vaio PCG-FR130 AthlonXP 2000+ 1.667ghz 512 megs pc2100 40 gig HD cdrw/dvd Nvidia Geforce4 420 Go-V 16 meg 14" XGA Latest drivers for the video are the 56.83 nvidias which I believe are 2003 so thats cool but wondering what kinds of games I will be able to play well with it, im not expecting anything over 1024x768 because of the XGA limitation. I was hoping for quake 3, ut 2003, maybe some Morrowind etc. obviously no doom3 or farcry LOL

My vote would have to go to the System Shock series. I know they were looked at as both FPS and RPG but they were bad ass

ok mabye if I get more heads on this I will be able to find something. The laptop I have is kinda old a Micron Transport GX and it comes with a S3 Savage IX MV 16 meg video card. I need help finding the absolute newest drivers on the web for this card in both Win2k and Winxp flavors. I am trying to get the latest and greatest of these drivers just so I can sqeeze the most gaming fuctionality and quality I can out of this sorry S3 LOL. Thanks in advance guys. PS I have tried all the ones listed at savagenews and also a lot of the ones posted at driversguide

well somehow my firts post with that info got overwritten but i will using it for older gaming, internet and playing dvds

its a p3 850 with 380 megs of ram and a 40 gig hd im also trying to find the best drivers for the POS S3 Savage IX MV 16 meg it has on it

Ok I have a Micron Transport GX laptop that has the S3 Savage 4 video chipset. Does anyone know of a video driver for Winxp that is newer than the one on the WinXP cd?

Everytime I reboot the system the hardware wizard comes up asking for device driver but the drive is working for almost a week now. If the drive is working why does it keep asking for the driver?
