Someone had posted this saying that Win2k only used 256k of your L2 cache by default. Anyone tried this? I have a 1meg L2 cache on my board and was wondering if this hack would help performance. Quantus I rarely reply to these types of topics but I feel compelled to set you straight on a few things. First off Windows 2000 does not suck. Yes Yes I know you did not exactly state "WIN2K SUCKS" but you did not have to. Your message was written in such a negative way that it was blatantly implied that "WIN2K Sucks" What is implied by a message is most cases is actually the most important part of a message. As to your "driver issues" you have with Win2k I have a suggestion. Take the 486 24 megs of ram system your currently running Win2k on and chunk it out of the window. Then ask Santa to bring you a nice big Athlon system for christmas and all will be much better. ***TRUST IN YOUR TECHNOLUST***

ok well i checked my registry and noticed that mine is set to "SecondLevelDataCache"=dword:00000000" Does that mean that Win2k is not even seeing any of my 1 meg L2 cache?

Well I got system shock 2 working and shogo is smooth as well except for the sticky mouse keys. But unreal tounament took a big performance hit. On the exact same system using win98 I was getting 38 fps at 1200 x 1024 16 all high detail. Now in Win2k at same rez and settings I get 20. OUCH! I know I know Win2k is not a gaming OS but I Hope the UT performance gets better. Well I did the same and it is running beautifully Much smoother than Win98. Go Win2k Going to try Unreal Tournament next

Well I installed Shogo, installed the latest patch and fired her up at 1024 x 768 16 bit highest detail. Ran smooth as glass literally. Only wierd things i notice is that I set my right mouse button to move me forward. well when i hold it down and then let go, i keep going very very fast and i have to click it once or twice to stop. Also everything seems to be running faster time wise in the game. like people walk alot faster, the train at the beginning moves faster. Any ideas? K6-2 450 128 megs , G400 32 SH, Windows 2000 pro 2195 oh by the was my mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1a ps/2. I am not running any of the intellimouse software (should I? ) I am just using the drivers that win2k installed.

After install when I try to run it it gives me a message that it must have Directx 6.1 to run.

actually it uses the Thief engine, and I have had some bad experiences installing things on my win2k system so far, i was just trying to avoid a headache if I could

I have been told that my Favorite program Winoncd 3.6 will not work with Win2k so I need advice on the next best thing. Cdrwin 3.8? Nero 4.083? Anyone? Thx

ok I installed Win2k pro 2195 and all works fine. I checked IRQs and vga adapter is on 9 and the other stuff is on other numbers. I also noticed that my computer was installed as standard pc instead of ACPI. Should I change it to ACPI? I went to run the win2k setup for the 5.03 drivers and it came up with a message that the drivers did not have a microsoft digital signature etc and would i like to continue install. I did and the rebooted, i then got the win2000 startup screen that shows the progress bar etc then after that was finished i just get a black screen. set IRQ for VGA is set in the bios as I had win98 installed on the computer before formating and installing win2k. Please help guys. Also I noticed that I cant change the monitor. the properties tab is greyed out. Better get those drivers right now hehe 3dfx lost 31 or so million last quarter i think. If the v4 and v5 flop (very possible) 3dfx might not be around that long. ------------------ ***TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST***
