OK, i just installed a clean win2k install and had to do that with out any PCI card inserted on my mobo, just my GF AGP card. Install worked superb and i updated win2k with windows update. But when i insert one PCI card onto my mobo, win2k want start anymore, it locks at startup. No matter what PCI card it is, or which PCI slot i have it on, as soon there is any PCI card present i cant start win2k nor install win2k (when installing win2k locks half way trough plug&pray detection, i think its when display is about to detect) I even tried with minimal settings in bios and safe settings in bios with everything off. Ok, here is my situation: Me and my buddy are trying to build a computer and install win2k on it, but there is no way we can get it to work. Computer specs are: FCPGA Pentium 3 600Mhz Coppermine 133Mhz bus Microstar 6905 FCPGA converter board Microstar 6199 mobo (newest version of bios) 256Mb PC133 (this is not noname mem) ATI 3D charger 8Mb AGP Intel Ether Express PRO 10/100Mbit SB PCI128 We tested the system with several cpus, one FCPGA 600 and 667 Mhz coppermine and one Slot1 600 Mhz coppermine. All 3 cpus are running on 133Mhz bus. We got problems with NT 4 and Win2k. Where should i start, NT4 want start att all after installation, it crashes at the blue screen startup with a memory dump, win2k is even worse, it randomly crashes, sometimes at the stratup, sometimes when we try to log in, and if it doesn crash there, we try to see how stable it is by running 20 winamps at the same time...well after 30 sec we get a bluescreen and the computer restarts, we cant see what is says on the bluescreen. We get random crashes even at installation of win2k with NTFS PARTIOTION errors and random lockups. We tested everything, and everything, and there is no way we can get the thing working, we think that there is a major bug within the P3 coppermines, but we dont know how many more ppl have the same problems as we have here. Do you have the same problem or do you know the solution to this major ****up?

For god sake guys, first, i am not stupid. second, i am working with this **** for 8 years now and build about 3 computers/day got that? We tested every posible configuration with bios settings and win2k setting and there is nothing that can make the system stable, and testing with 20 winamps is maybe not a very good idea but it works for the most of time, and the problems is not only the system stability but the installation too. We cant even install win2k on the computer, it locks its self under ´the fisrt part of the installation. Now thats not normal. Got anything else to say? P.S and as i already told you, we tryed every posible configuration with bios settings and win2k settings and still no proggress. We even tested with several other computers with same hardware, no sollution. What the hell is wrong than? Could say Hardware failure but than all 10 mobos are ****ed or all 10 cpus...that cant be the case..there must be a sollution or there is a failure in production.

Well, i still have big time problems with SBlive even when i installed win2k livewere! the sound hangs up after some time...the clicking sound you get when you are in explorer likes to hang up...starts cliking like crazy....or when i play mp3's...well the mp3 just stops playing...all sounds stop! anyone know what the problem is? ________________________________ Dual P3 Coppermine 600Mhz/133Mhz 256Mb PC133 RAM Microstar 6120 Mobo SBlive player 1024! I tried everything in NT4 and didnt get the sblive working with my mps system, it locked the computer all the time, now i install win2k and here we go again!!! it lockes the computer again, just like in NT4, i mean what the heck is this!! can't creative make something that works with 2 proccesors or what is it I am missing?? please help! At last! YEAH, YES YES YES! i made it, turned of the acpi off in my bios and chaned the pci slot...and it works great now with both proccesors....YES! thank you very much for your help and support! damn i happy!

Hello guys/girls ! Check this out... I had a bunch of problems installing win2k pro on my machine coz of my mobo and my 2 P3 coppermine proccesors...well win2k just didnt like the idea that the mobo was NOT coppermine ready when it comes to run DUAL, i tried like 40 times to install win2k and i always ended up with a HARDWARE failure or a lock up in the setup. Then i ripped out my NIC card and one of the proccesors....installed win2k, wich went without a SINGEL problem...when the install was finished i put the second cpu on the mobo again and win2k was damn SLOW!!! it was like a run it on a 486 or something...here and there i got lockups and hardware failures again...ok, i rip the second cpu out again..start win2k..everything runs smooth as hell on my p3 600mhz and 256mb ram..go to windows update site on the net and update my win2k with the so called CRITICAL UPDATE!!! ...it was like 2 mb big... gee, guess what?? i put the second cpu on the mobo again...and YES!! windows finaly runs like a rocket!! not a singel problem with the 2 cpu's.... it kinda makes you wonder, what the hell did microsoft forget...and ended up with a critical update that never tells exectly what it does....hehe well, i do still have some strange sblive probs...the sound starts clicking and hacknig up..out of nowere when i start the win2k...hmmm /Silent-IQ

by the way, does it have to do something with ACPI?

ok, here we go: i start the win2k...i like dont have to do much...just move the mouse around a little bit and then *boom* the computer locks up..i cant move the mouse and keyboard is not responding...but all the applications in the backgroung are running fine..thats strange... then we have another case...when i try to play a mpeg or mp3 file...the computer locks down...and one more case...you know the clickin sound in explorer when you browse the directories, well that sound hangs up...and after some time the computer locks up again...it must be the sound card...but i down know what the heck it is...am using the win2k default drivers for the sblive card...please help! thanx

hehe, this is funny...how to make win2k crash? well here is a tip.. install 3dstudio max ver. 3.1 and open a modell using 1 million + triangles....with my dual p3 600mhz/133Mhz coppermine and 256 PC133 RAM...geee...booomm!! it goes down like a baby! otherwise its stable like a rock! ASUMING YOU ARE NOT RUNNING SOME DAMN BETA OR SO CALLED CRACKED DRIVERS/PROGS... /silent-iq

I really dont know..i have a simillar problem here... i have a MSI 6120 Dual server mobo and the latest bios update...well undet bios settings the acpi option is on and under win2k it runs like MPS and not acpi mps computer..when i change manualy to acpi msp,..well i have to reinstall the win2k...hehe

so, right now my win2k is using mps under computer...should i change that to the other option then?

that was the case of good old winnt...but in win2k you dont have to do that..it detects automaticly how many cpus are running and it configures the system to run with 2 cpus.. i checked under the task manager..and jepp..there are 2 cpu graphs.. but i still cant get the damn sblive from hanging the sound all the time...hehe

"Micorsoft Windows 2000" SUCKS! as all their other OS...they all suck and dont function at all.... Everyone knows that, a gamer, programer or 3d modeler like me... Let me see....Win NT4...gee iget ALMOST everthing right except the fuc** sound card...yeah right...hmmm win98...well everything works fine except that i can use only one proccesor and when i model in 3dstudio max for more than 30 minutes or if i open a 100000+ polygons model ..wheeee BLUE FUC*** SCREEN!!!!
