I tried the 3.7.9 drivers on my Athlon 650, Guillemot Geforce SDR 256megs crucial pc133, 2x13.6 raid 0, soundblaster live value blah blah blah rig and the same thing. I had to go back to 3.75 with 3.66 mini.sys file. Random crashes with the new asus drivers along with any body elses beta drivers. This really sucks. I wanna know what the **** these manufacturers are using to develop the drivers that they arent comming across this really annoying bug. Everyone I know with an Athlon and Geforce running win2k has the same problem. I wonder if 3.75 is such a big improvement over 3.66. I'm not big on benchmarks. Dont have the time to be benching everytime I change something. Maybe I should start. Whatever. Can somebody point us towards a reliable/ decent performing driver?

Windoze Mellinium. I think I spelled that right.

Anybody Else try the Creative Drivers?

I use Maxtor drives and noticed a vast improvment in speed. I used 32K block size in the controller setup. That seemed to work best for people. I dug through several forums and yes people were having problems but after a clean install things worked out fine. Also there was alot of buzz about benchmarking software not being accurate with the raid controller. Some dude on Ars-Technica's board had a program that came from Promise that ran in dos to benchmark the drives. Try that forum, I think I saw the names of one or two programs that bench the card correctly.

is there any way to call for the WINDOW TRANSPARANCY
GrannyPantyRaider replied to Arin's topic in Hardware
Try Installing window blinds. There is a checkbox for enabling transparent windows. You dont have to skin anything just check the box. I have not tried this myself. I have been too lazy to install it. I know the feature is there. Its worth a shot. -
To my knowledge you are pretty **** out of luck with the Media Player. I had the same problem with the skipping sound until I got my new setup. I had SB Live on a **** mother board the sound skipped on every driver. Works with my Athlon quite well. Winamp gives you those nice buffer options and other things that make the sound very nice. Direct sound ACK!! Somebody please post thier knowledge on this Direct sound optimization stuff. If there is any way to do it at all. GPR.

Worked wonderfully for me! Got 2 maxtor 13.6 7200 rpm drives on a mod'd Ultra66 card. All I can say is FAST! All it took was a 4 sec bios flash on the controoler card and 2 mins to solder the resister between a pin on the bios and the ground on the card. (Dont ask me what pin number cause I dont know. I just followed the pic.) Got a second one right in front of me waiting to be operated on. I might either sitck it in my server with 2 20 gigs or I just give to my friend so he can put his drives on it and have some RAID fun of his own. Though I think I might make him mod it hiself. Why should I keep the fun away from him! GPR.

I have an Athlon 650 on a k7 pro running a Geforce SDR card under win2k. I like mostly everyone else with a similar setup experience frequent lock-ups on the desktop. This is what I am trying now. I used the nv4_mini.sys from 3.66 with the 3.78 Nvidia reference drivers. Its worth a shot. The worst that could happen is that you still end up going back to the 3.66 drivers totally. Go into safe mode and copy the nv4_mini.sys file from the 3.66 driver set into the \%system root%\system32\drivers directory after you have installed the 3.78 drivers. I have not crashed yet on the desktop. Its has been 3 hours and I haven't played any games to delay the crash. So so far so good. Give it a shot. This may be the fix, for now. GPR

creative labs tnt2u crash's under full accel

see my post about the about the 3.78 driver fix. that may work for you. -
I remember reading somewhere about the tv tab being activated when there is a tv plugged into it. The card I believe can detect this. This may be the case with those drivers. Just an Idea.

That should fix those erratic ass freeze ups. Just for fun though put in only 64 megs of ram and I bet you dont freeze. Pretty odd eh? 128 and higher seems to cause freezes without the above fix. I have the problem when playing SHOGO ( I am trying to finish it on Madness ). Gung shoots on its own or I strafe to the right and left uncontrolably. Quake3 plays wonderfully. GPR

Looks wrong but guess what? It works. GPR

Has anybody tried the Guillemot drivers? I havent crashed yet using them. I know they are a port of the Nvidia 3.78 drivers but I have not had any of the freezing problems that I had with the Nvidia drivers and the Directx is running better. No more wavy graphics in starcraft. It only been about 1hour so far so ill give some more time. Though 15 mins was enough time to crash if I wasn't playing games. GPR www.guillemot.com

Dude in your bios check to see if you have "Assign IRQ to AGP" enabled or something to that effect. NVIDIA cards generally require that an IRQ is assigned to the card. Make sure your main video device is set to VGA/AGP in bios. That should fix it. GPR __________________ And now for my system specs... You're problem lies in the fact that you are using a Geforce card with 3.78 driver. That is if you are running an AMD Athlon based system. Read the postings in hardware. There are quite a few treads about it.

Didn't work. I wonder if people are actually using the hardwaer or just reporting that Windows says that the device is there. Windows reports the device is functioning but it doesn't scan nor does the software find the device. under all other os its fine. GPR

Arrrgggghhhhh.... Liveware and MP3 problem
GrannyPantyRaider replied to evil Homer's topic in Hardware
Under the settings for the wave_out device in winamp there should be a setting for sound buffer. Play with that. In other words make it larger. I had the same problem. Unfortunately Win2k does not have an adjustment under the audio devices to control the size of the audio buffer like in win98. But in winamp there is hope. lemme know how it turns out. -
Tried the same thing. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. On top of the fact that the Acer US site has no info regarding the parallel scanners and win2k.

poll: athlon / win2k / geforce / 3.78 / 3.66 ?
GrannyPantyRaider replied to Distar's topic in Hardware
My Athlon is a 550@650 1.8volts on a K7pro and 256Megs Crucial ram in Banks 1&3, and a 3D Prophet SDR card. I noticed that when running 64megs of ram the computer was absolutely stable. I had severe problems with the 3.75 drivers then I switched to the 3.78 drivers the minute they were released and the problem was less prominate. So anyway after testing with 64 and >64 I noticed desktop freezes consistantly and quickly with 128megs in any configuration. 64 megs the system was rock stable. I changed the boot to os/2>64 to yes in bios and raised the core voltage from 1.75 to 1.8. So far it locked up twice within 10 mins then was stable for the last 15 hours. Games and everything else. Gosh Im tired. I also notcied the crashes occured when the desktop had absolutly nothing happening on it or I was in a control panel or properties page. If I was playing an opengl game the machine wouldn't crash until I got out of it. Wierd eh? But I have been stable since last night with no hiccups. I hope the next release of drivers are better. _________________________ Here's my system specs: Athlon 550@650 1.8 volts K7Pro -->Can't wait to get the new 133board. 256Megs of Crucial PC133 ->Cas2 @ 100MHZ FSB Windows 2K Professional 3D Prophet Geforce SDR 135core / 190mem SB Live Cambridge Soundworks DT2500 (put in my own sub) :-) 13.6 MAxtor UDMA66/ 7200rpm/ 2MB Cache 50x generic CD-rom 4x2x8 Mitsumi Burner NEC Zip 100 Atapi Intel Pro100+ Nic 416/416 SDSL 3com 1meg modem Sony 20" running Desktop at 1280x1024x32@75Hz Antec 303x blah blah blah Tower ..Oh and an Athlon sticker proudly displayed on the case.
