I had some lockups in CS but tweaked a bunch of stuff in the config.cfg file and it stopped. Check out a place like http://www.3dspotlight.com/tweaks/half-life/index.shtml for tweaking information on that .cfg file in the CS directory. Also have you experimented with newer leaked Detonator drivers??

A month away??? I hope so!

European Air War, M1 Tank Platoon II, and Panzer Elite???

What video card and driver version are you using, Mike? You got the patch from http://eaw.thrustmaster.com/frames.html ? -
Why does Win2000 always put games at 60Mhz refresh rate?
LoW_beta replied to falcon26's topic in Games
Guess it's a Windows2000 specific problem, SP2 doesn't seem to fix it and I think it happens with ATI Radeon too. If you're using an NVIDIA card then download ztn's program to cure the problem. Direct download link: http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?ztn/nvreffix.zip or his page: http://www.planetquake.com/ztn -
6.31 for stableness 6.49 for performance

Reformat. Load all the up to date drivers, updates, etc then once you know it's running smooth apply Service Pack 1. I tried and tried to duplicate this without SP1/SP2 installed but it never happens. Guess it might be an issue that cropped up in the SP. My 2 cents.
-
Not even sure it's in beta. Rumor is it might never see the light of day, hoping users instead will upgrade to Windows 2000.
-
Happened to me a bunch of times. I don't think it's NVIDIA specific since it also happened when I tried to upgrade drivers for a 3Com NIC card. It always seems to occur after applying Service Pack 1. Sucks that the only quick fix is reformatting.

European Air War, M1 Tank Platoon II, and Panzer Elite???

They meant NT4 SP5 to select in Apcompat. Also use 1.2a patch instead of 1.2. -
Installed the latest service pack by chance?
-
I encountered the same issue and fixed it by installing the latest service pack. I can't find the link now but it's in the MS knowledge base as a known bug in NT Server. Good luck

Adjust both the DirectSound and Main volume to 85% or so in the Creative Surround mixer. Follow the instructions in this link, might make a difference on your system: http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic...amp;m=514098692

Anyone able to get European Air War running in Win2K with the 1.02a patch applied?

Have you checked this page out yet? http://support.tekramusa.com/support2.nsf/view0/A34BDCE904AE21F28825684D00110FD6?openDocument Hope that helps

No prob. It should be pretty easy to identify the speaker connector to the mainboard. It's a 4-prone connection. For some reason like you said this only happens in Windows2000 and not Win98 or Win98SE. You could also hold the shift key then delete an item or items but then that would defeat the purpose of the bin I guess.
-
You'll have to open up your computer case and remove the system speaker wire from the mainboard. Or in the device manager, disable the 'System Speaker' under system devices.

I got the tweak for you, this works with the SBLive and any sound card for that matter. As long as you've got DirectX7 or 8. Works under Win9X and Win2K. Follow the link for further instructions: http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic...amp;m=124098692

Intel chipset, won't install on win2k
LoW_beta replied to Xonant's topic in Customization & Tweaking
You try the chipset drivers direct from Intel yet?? Most Intel chipsets are supported and all OS's as well. Just update/install from http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm -
I feel your pain. My Windows2000 setup is rocking but the only thing holding it back is the sub-par Liveware driver quality. I'd hate to return to WinME just because of the sound quality but it's really pissing me off and I know how good the Live sounds under Win9X. Creative rushed these drivers and you can see in the newsgroups how unhappy people are. Lots of people are buying the new Santa Cruz soundcard because it has better driver support in Win2K and WinME. A post at http://alive.singnet.com.sg/ by a Creative guy slates the next update in October but you know how those things go. Your only recourse is to either return to Win9X/WinME or grin and bear it because there aren't many sure fire fixes besides hacking the driver code yourself.

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds and Multimedia, click the advanced button for playback then under advanced audio properties click the slider one notch to the left under hardware acceleration. This will help stablize the system in some cases and also help with distortion of sound quality when lots of sounds are being played at once. Creative left out the old device controls from the Win2K version so you can't choose the amount of voices in sound.
-
franzj, did you upgrade from a live card? and if so how do you think it compares. I think the Live card is good but the current Live Win2K drivers hold it back from being great. Too bad creative doesn't seem to care very much.
-
There are no device controls in the Liveware for Windows2000 like there is in the Win9X drivers. So there is no way to control the amount of voices in Directsound which is why there is distortion in some games when lots of sounds are being played at once. I questioned a Creative tech on this awhile back, he thought that it was set to 32 voices at default but I find that doubtful. I'm not sure why they left out the device controls though and I don't know if any registry settings exist. Oh well.

Did you try typing ipconfig/release or ipconfig/renew at the command prompt? it should work and saves time in rebooting. My connection occasionally drops out, it keeps block sync though and I just release and renew.
