Yah, the first demo released was corrupted. You need to re-download the updated demo all over again. Go to www.meccaworld.com or something.

Damn...same thing here except it worked great prior to installing SP1. At the splash screen my hard drive goes into overdrive but nothing happens. I tried maunally patching it with no luck.

Using NTFS and gaming with no problems. Asherons' call runs great but the sound is crappy compared to Win98 or WinME using a SBLive with the newest Liveware drivers. If you're going to dedicate the drive to one OS then NTFS is the way to go.

Windows 2000 is the best OS from Microsoft...ever!

http://www.ntcompatible.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000625.html same thing at this thread.

I used to get this error in the event viewer also but it stopped happening when I perfomed a clean install of Win2K and I didn't apply any so called registry tweaks to speed up my net connection. That might have something to do with it. Have you by chance applied any of the patches from Speedguide.net?

When you highlight 'Default Monitor' in the device manager did you try to click the uninstall icon? if that works then click the icon with the magnifying glass to scan for hardware changes. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure what else to try. Good luck.

Good, I'm not the only one having this problem with Win2K. I'm using a Viewsonic P815 and NVIDIA TNT2 Ultra. Every video driver I've tried does the same thing, so it could be Windows itself. I remember this happening when Win98 first came out. Usually my monitor profile in the device manager will revert to 'Default Monitor' and to fix I just remove it then have Windows search for new hardware and my monitor shows up again. Doesn't happen much but usually on a reboot, cold mostly.

Real good guide here, was written for NT4 but basically the same in Win2K http://arstechnica.com/tweak/nt/ntservices-1.html

Dragon-Lord, I think the distortion problems are related to the amount of voices the drivers come defaulted at for directsound accelration. Take for example the Win9X drivers have the wave voice applet and it comes set at 4 voices, you can raise it all the way to 32 which helps in games that support that many. So right now I'm guessing that the Win2K come defaulted at 4 voices and that's why many games sound like crap. I've been told there is a way to change that value through the registry but haven't found out where yet. Until then you'll have to put up with the distortion. Overall I'm happy with the drivers but i'm sad Creative left that feature out of this release.

Live!Ware 1.0 for Win2K, or how to kill Win2k in a few click
LoW_beta replied to GPSnoopy's topic in Hardware
I was using the last version of the leaked Win2K Live! drivers from Creative. For good measure I uninstalled them, then installed the latest version from Creative. Rebooted and no problems. I don't care if the applets are pink, as long as everything works. I do have one bone to pick with Creative, where the hell is the Wave Voice applet like in Win9X? I know in Win9X it was defaulted at 4 voices and sounded like crap until it was changed to 32 voices. Is there anyway to change that value in Win2K? -
Knowing HP they will most likely charge you to use their Win2K compliant software/drivers. I was a bit irked to find out they want almost 30 bucks for the Win2K software using their HP 8100i drivers. Even the newer 9100 doesn't have Win2K drivers and they want 10 bucks.

My version expired also but SHS just posted a link to a newer version and I haven't gotten this message since I installed it. Thanks SHS- http://superhighspeed.dhs.org/TweakUI-1.32.zip

Can't restart after installing EZCDcreator 4.02 Patch

Yup, same here. Tried everything to get it working but it's a no go. -
Hi all, Can the Pagefile become fragmented? and if so what is the best way to optimize it? Also what is a good value for the pagefile using 512MB of RAM? Is a value of 2000 too much or too little? Thanks!!

Nvidia 5.08-A glimpse at what we shall have soon
LoW_beta replied to FrogMaster's topic in Slack Space
I'm also hoping NVIDIA releases a driver like this for Win2K, I wouldn't see why not but the question is when. I'm fairly happy with the latest 3.78's but there's lots of room for improvement. -
I noticed this too, until I set the Indexing Service to Auto from Manual. My hard drive is an 9GB U2W/LVD. So try setting the Indexing service to Auto and see if that helps for your setup. Also with a 9GB drive and 512MB of RAM does anyone know if a 1536 min and max value for the pagefile is a good optimium setting? or what do you recommend. thanks

Thanks Shrink and Wolverine, downloading now!

Hmm..okay only other thing I can think of is right click on the desktop goto >properties>then effects. Under the option 'Use transition effects for menu and tooltips' set that to 'Scroll effect' instead of fade. The fade option slows everything down a little, so that scroll effect might help you. If that doesn't work then maybe someone else has ideas. Also this option effects every program so you should see a difference.

I think Mouseware for Win2K is pretty good, actually it's good for Win9X also. The problem your noticing with the delay can be fixed by installing TweakUI. In TweakUI you can adjust the menu speed. If I move the menu speed slider to 'Fastest' My right click will open in less then 1 second. At the default value it takes 2-3 seconds like you stated. You can find the Win2K version located at ftp://ftp.globular.com/pub/w2k/tweakui.zip

What hardware version is your live card? Make sure to use Josef's INF file here on site. The dell one will default to the live value and I had distortion problems with the dell one.

It's really hard to say. I mean it's like setting a friend up on a blind date with someone. My suggestion is since your using NT 4 it won't be a huge jump to you compared to people that use Win9X all day. Chances are if you like NT 4 you'll like Win2K but the only way to know is to try it out.

I feel for ya. I had a crappy internal ISA modem for a couple of years. It sucked and they never updated the software drivers since Win 3.1 . It worked fine in Win98 but they advised me against it. I'm sure they would say the same if I still had it in Win2K. External is for sure the best. The only thing you have to worry about is the NIC but if it's a popular one like 3Com then your okay. Anyway my advice is to pester them. If they say we don't support Win2K then say you'll find another ISP that does. I highly doubt they will tell you to get lost.

Hi, I heard there was a version of TweakUI that works in Win2K. I tried the Win2K version from betabites and it was a no go. I get to the dialog that says this should be run from the control panel, yes or no. Once I hit yes it doesn't do anything. I'm using the final retail of Win2K. Anyone get it working? Thanks

Thanks for the info guys! I got tweakui from YuppieScum's link to work fine.
