  1. Not that it helps but I had the same problem, and had to reinstall. It seems to have happened right after installing direct x 8. Tried installing directX 8 again and it happened again.
  2. Are you returning any ints in your vb code? If you are change them to longs and see if that helps. I forgot where I read it, but I remember reading something about how since W2K is a 32 bit operating system, it does not handle 16 bit number being returned properly. It tries to read them as a 32 bit number, thus possibly the "memory cannot be read" error.

    Abit BE6 II with P3 866

I have the same motherboard and I recomend a 850 p3 with a 100MHz FSB with that motherboard ($197 at egghead.com). I had p3 600 with a 133MHz FSB and could only run it at 550, the AGP video card didnt like the bus speed. My 850 runs stables at 940 with no extra cooling and generic PC100 ram.

  5. Dobly Digital out does not work in w2k, creative say it might start working with SP2, something to do with the way ac3 is processed.

    This will work, won't it?

Another way to do it would be to use VNC a free PC Anywhere type program since you have nics in both boxes. It will work great unless you plan on using graphic extensive apps or playing games on your secondary box. This would also allow you to use when keyboard and mouse for both computers without any extra hardware You can get VNC at http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/download.html [This message has been edited by wiyot (edited 17 November 2000).]

    HP Scanjet 5200c

Dont know about your specific error message but I am running w2k final with the 5200c. My 5200c works fine on USB port with no hp drivers installed, hp original software works but does not see w2k as being usb ready so installs parrell port software. It still worked with the scanner on the usb port however it just loads unneccasary software (parrell port monitor). The scanner will not work on the USB port if you have a VIA appolo pro chipset! Also if you trying to install the scanner on the parrell port make sure it is configured as a ECP port in the BIOS.

    spoolsv ... wtf

This happened to me twice. First time I reinstalled w2k. Fixed the problem but not fun. The second time I went into WINNT\system32\spool\PRINTERS and deleted a *.shd file rebooted and my printer was back. Maybe it will work for you. BTW I have a compaq IJ750 with the NT4 drivers.

    Diamond Viper 2

The card worked fine, if I didnt want play games or want directX 7 support, open GL support or tv out. I guess I expected to much for a card that has a windows 2000 supported label on the box. Any word on new drivers from diamond??
