I guess I don't follow, what is the point of having a password on this account if you can logon automatically? Doesn't that just circumvent the other?
-
If you are going to be logging in automatically just don't put in a password. I would imagion that if you changed your password back to nothing that would work again, although I can't test it right now because I am at work.

"FireWire" or IEEE 1394 as it is known in the PC industry is Standardized. Just because it does not come standard on a motherboard does not mean it is not standardized. IEEE 1394 has been around since 1980 when Apple copyrighted the name "Firewire". The specification has been expanded on since the beginning to increase speeds change signaling and that sort of thing but it has remained fairly consistant. IEEE 1394 *CAN* out perform SCSI in theory but that will not happen any time soon. The reason for this is because IEEE 1394 can transfer at speeds of 800mb /sec (currently but can go as high as 3.2gb in the future) but that is device to device right now. The limiting factor of IEE1394 is not its specification but the maximum throughput of the local PCI bus. Once that is thrown into the mix it becomes the bottleneck and it doesn't matter if your HD could transfer at 1tb /sec it still has to be transfered over the PCI bus. -
This is related to the Activation Required key fix. When you install the OS you need to boot once into normal mode and get the error when you login saying something about reinstalling the OS. Then boot Safemode and change the reg key. If you notice when you are installing new drivers it will say it failed because the "Services Database is Locked". I have tried serveral different configurations and every time I boot straight into safe mode without trying to logon normally I always have this same list of problems.

I really really need to ask you something...please help me!

This has been talked about in other threads. But I will tell you anyway. 1. Right now it does not appear anything major will change. Although it is still in Beta phase so I could be proven wrong tomorrow. Once the OS gets to RC (Release Candidate) there is very little change. 2. Will games run faster? Compared to what? I would say that if you have decent hardware you should not see a decrease but I would not migrate to this OS thinking that everything is going to be much faster, because it is very doubtful. I would say its on par with Windows 2000 gaming but with more compatibility. 3. 2428 in my opinion is very stable, I run it at home exclusively. 4. That is hard to say. Its more of a personal choice. I have been running 2428 for a couple weeks and absolutely love it. Some of my friends don't really care for it. So do a little research and see if you like the new features. 5. Yes, you should run Windows 2000 drivers. Windows XP uses the WDM driver specification. This is the same that Windows 2000 uses and Windows ME *trys* to use. Although I have not seen Windows ME drivers use the WDM spec they mostly still use VXD's which suck big time. Hope that helps you out some. Next time do a search through the previous topics. Most likely it has been discussed before. [This message has been edited by MSGuy (edited 07 March 2001).] -

ISA does not do true Plug and Play. ISA was never designed to do PnP it was more of an after thought for EISA and it was expanded to provide *limited* PnP functionality. But to be fully PnP it has to answer the five questions of Plug and Play which are: What are you? Where are you? What resources can you use? What would you like to use? What are you using right now? EISA can only answer three so it is not fully PnP compatible. My whole original point was that Microsoft is no longer going to support ISA or EISA in future operating systems. It may have a few legacy device drivers in the driver.cab but it only does it for very standardized hardware such as the SB 16 and others. Just because Microsoft does not put the drivers on the CD does not mean that the hardware will not work correctly, just that Microsoft is not going to put the drivers on the CD any longer. Also, USB is *NOT* legacy. Just because the max bandwidth of USB 1.x is 12mb does not mean that it is legacy. USB runs over the PCI bus not the ISA. USB 2.0 will support transfer rates of 100mb. All of this information is on http://www.usb.org. [This message has been edited by MSGuy (edited 27 February 2001).] -

It is not only MS that is involved in coming up with the PC 2001 spec. There are several other vendors that are a part of it. So it is not like MS is just trying to force their view as the right one, although they do have a powerful voice. All of those devices that you named are legacy and can be substituted with other standards. Just because MS doesn't put the driver on their CD does not mean that it wont work. It just means that they are not going to officially support the device because it makes it a nightmare for their Support Staff. If you can get it to work great but if not don't cry to Microsoft that your 10 year old hardware doesn't install. And just because it is on their CD doesn't mean they wrote the driver. Microsoft does NOT write device drivers, except for their own hardware. They may certify a driver but they don't write them. -

ISA is trash plain and simple. ISA in its day 10 years ago was pretty good. But now we have PCI and AGP, fully PnP. ISA is slow, not plug and play, legacy, and all around a pain in the butt. I don't see why people are still hanging on to their crap hardware. Just because I have an ISA NIC doesn't mean I have to or should use it. And to the person that said that as long as they keep making ISA slots it is not dead. The PC 2001 specification says that to be fully compliant a motherboard can have NO ISA slots. In the PC 99 specification it just recommended that there be no ISA. P.S. I have an ISA SCSI card if anyone is interested. -

Also it will help if next time you post in english -
most definately there will be.

The Questionnaire: There have actually been a few reg hacks to get around the anti piracy measures in the latest build. It is pretty easy to get around so I suspect Microsoft will make it a little harder to get around in the next builds.

jdulmage: I realize that you post a lot on here and that for the most part you seem to know what you are talking about but I was under the impression this was a forum to discuss Ideas and not flame each other, If I was looking for flames I would go to the ShugaShack. The person before you was just expressing a concern (a valid one with the rumors flying around the net) about the anti piracy measures that might or might not be implemented. Just a peice of advise, next time post with some facts instead of resorting to calling people stupid (essentially).

I agree. I have been running this latest build for about a week and I can't say enough good things about it. It runs like a dream on my system, previous builds only stayed on my system for a day or less because I could not stand the slowness and other quirks. This OS is awesome!! I normally get my OS's for free through work (Guess where ) but if I leave before this OS comes out I am definately going to buy it. I can only be more impressed with further builds.
