Yea! Screw MS for wanting to get paid for a product they have been developing. Dirty bastards! Get real, MS has every right to charge for this product. It may not be exactly what you want but lets face it pal, your not Boeing or some other HUGE customer so your one voice doesnt count for a whole lot. If you don't like it don't buy it, no big deal for MS.

I just checked mine here at work and it seems to be reporting correctly. I stuck in Monty Python on my compaq and it reported it as 3.95 gig. It is a compaq DVD drive I don't know specifically what one they use because it reports it as just a compaq DVD drive.

Maybe its one of those ID10T errors that have been floating around.

to check if windows 2000 files have been corrupted run "sfc /scannow" from the command prompt.

I would just put boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect.com on a floppy with the awdflash.exe and the bin file. Then when you boot it will automatically start the awdflash.exe and your set. Just specify the .bin file and your done.

I have a Hollywood + running on an Epox 7KXA with det 5.13's it works perfectly.

I am at work right now so i cannot load these new drivers (hmmm maybe at lunch....?). Can someone plz tell me if they have D3D support? And if they do do they have agp enabled under dxdiag? Also how are the control panels? Can you customize everything like you could in 9x? Can, who, plz, where, how????? so many questions, damn this job!!!!!!!!

Do you mean to tell me that this is not 98? damnit! I have been supporting this thing for over a month now and I never realized that. I supposed the next thing you are going to tell is that Quake 3 wont run on my 386 running Windows 3.11.

I really wish J would post again, I am at work and have nothing to do. Come on man I need some entertainment =)

Man you guys got to cut it out. I laughed so hard I fell out of my chair, people are looking at me now. Yes you can technically have DOS files on an NTFS partition but try to access them. DOS will not recognize an NTFS partition.
-
jdulmage, First of all i am pretty sure I know a little more about this operating system then you considering I work for MS on the Win2k Professional Setup team. MS Dos cannot even exist on a NTFS5 partition (fat32 yes). So this is not an option for most ppl since we run on NTFS. Every game I have ever tried to run on my box runs, I even got Space Quest (old ass DOS game) to run on my box.

I just want to know if there are ogl and D3D setting in there?

It is not so much your OS but your motherboard/cpu. I have heard from several people that the Vortex2 chipset does not like the Athlon CPU. I have an Athlon running on an Epox 7KXA mobo and i used to have the SQ2500. When I had this set up my sound was very much like you discribed. It would also get so bad it would shut itself down and I would have to restart the comp to get my sound back. I now have a SB Live! Platinum and It works perfectly. The sound is once again crystal clear like it was under 98. The drivers for the aureal based cards are extremely poor right now.

Im pretty sure that you do not have the full retail, because if you did you would know how to boot off the CD. Since I am in a good mood I will tell you how to do it. Copy the i386 dir to your HD and then run the winnt.exe this will start the install process. If you know how to install smartdrive i highly suggest you do.

I had this problem. What kind of motherboard are you running? I fixed the problem by switching the PCI slot my Hollywood+ was in. I had it in the first slot, when I booted the CPU would post but the memory would not test and the system would hang.
-
are you using the Dell hacked version? I am running the 15meg version from somewhere on here and it works fine. Everything on my live! drive works.

One thing you can try is create an LMHOST file. To do this go start>run> and type cmd. Then a command prompt will come up. Type "edit LMHOST", then you will be in a dos style editor. From here you need to type in the ip and corisponding computer name of each box on your network, here is the syntax "192.168.1.1 <computer name> #PRE" The #PRE will make it pre cache the ip's when you boot up. Also make sure that the first bound protocal is the same on all the boxes, i.e. if TCP/IP is first on your 2000 box make it the first on your 9.x boxes.

I am probably going to buy an new athlon setup and am going to go with the Epox kx133 based board. Has anyone heard or seen anything about compatiblity problems with this board and Win2k?

You would be best installing off a clean HD. ------------------ ------------------- MSGuy (RobGoo @ work) v-2rogoo@mssupport.microsoft.com

Did you run the /checkupgradeonly switch? This will create a report of what on your machine is not compatible with Win2k. Also another thing to look at is Anti-Virus software. Softwares such as Nortan 6.x, McAfee, Logitec mouseware and some others i cannot think of right now will hose up a 2000 install real quick. Also what kind of video card do you have? You should try doing a clean install, upgrades suck. MSGuy (RobGoo at work)
-
Why would you want to? Since I started supporting Win2k Pro on the 17th most of the issue I have been seeing are botched upgrades. I have personally never done an upgrade and I certainly do not recommend it. Im not sure I completely understand your question. Basically you want to do an upgrade but not use the same drivers as NT 4.0 or 9.x right? This can be done after you upgrade but i am not aware of anyway to do this simply(it can be done but I'd rather not deal with adding install scripts and such). So in short, I would recommend that you install fresh. It will be a better situation all around and will cause you less headache. MSGuy (aka Robgoo at work)
-
Yes and No. If you only have the upgrade version you cannot upgrade your install. Obviously MS does not want ppl upgrading free OS's for the full OS. If you have the Full copy then yes you can install over the top and still retain your current config. MSGuy(aka Robgoo at work)

My box at home has been up for at least 72 hours with no problems. I am pretty sure that my Win2k server box (my workstation) at work has never been shut down and it has been up since we launched on the 17th. I would check the HCL if I were you, you probably have some non-hcl hardware.

I guess I can't be too unhappy, at least now i have SP/DIF out. MSGuy (aka RobGoo at work)
