Hey there. I don't have Nero installed at all and my system is rebooting all over the place! I have Norton's 2000, Getright, MSN messenger & Easy CD Creator 4 coming on at startup. The system can reboot at any time, but always from the desktop...i.e. I can play UT online fine and no probs there. But then I can be going through the Start Menu and BAM!, it reboots the system. Or I can access the Display properties or do any other menial task and it could reboot. Very annoying! I have a Jetway MoBo (VIA chipset), CLTNT2U with the CL 3.76 drivers, SBLive, and Realtek Nework card and a Viking ISA modem. The BIOS is set to Default and the TNT2 is the only device with non-Win2000 drivers installed. I need help on this so get yer thinking caps on! Cheers.

Hi there. I too am getting Access Violations in BattleZone 2, right when I select the option to Launch and when the game engine should start. I have a TNT2U with the CL 3.76 drivers. Are there any updates to this at all? The odd thing is that it worked fine the first time I tried it. I completed the first mission no probs in 2000 thinking "bloody great - it works!" but since then I've had no joy. ...it's a good job I dul-booted with 98, so I play the game there.... If anyone can update this thread with good news, some of us here will well appreciate it! Take care.

So, if it set to "Standard PC" and I have a Jetway (VIA chipset) MoBo, is there any way to have it enable ACPI at all? The thi9ng is, if I enable ACPI in the Control Panel, when I go to shut down the PC I get a Blue Screen with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_ZERO error... Any ideas? BTW, the BIOS is as up to date as I can get it.

Hi all. A quick question. I have, at the moment, the 2195 build Evaluation copy of Windows 2000 installed. I only installed it recently and it works fine (except for a blue screen error on shutdown with APM enabled....won't get into that here!) Now my question is that if I want to install the full version of Win2000, can I simply run the WinNT32 off the CD and it will simply overwrite my installed copy? Or will I have to reinstall my applications again? Thanks in advance for help here.

MSGuy....when you say that some s/w messes up the install I suppose you mean whatever software I have installed in 98 or 2000 when I run the WinNT (or WinNT32). So, would I be better off booting from a 98 boot diskette and running the WinNT straight off the CD from DOS? Cheers.

Hi again. Ok, so I went and ran the WINNT32.exe off the CD and everything seemed to be going fine when the system crashed with a Blue screen saying IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and I had to reboot. That was during the Loading device drivers section. So, Irebooted and it started again. This time it got as far as Saving settings when it just rebooted (!?) and so it started again. I did this about a half dozen times with that blue screen appearing at different points each time. I even got a PAGEFAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA errr so I tried doing the install with different combinations of my DIMM chips in case that was the problem. Eventually it worked BUT on the last attempt it reported a few java files that could not be loaded. (Note that I know that this is a working CD...) So it went into Windows but went to a black screen instead of the desktop. After going to Safe Mode I uninstalled the TNT2 3.76 driver and so it works fine with a VGA driver. I can reinstall the 3.76 driver and it seems cool until I attempt to change the res or colour palette, at which point it blanks out and does not recover. I have detailed this in another post but I though I would mention it here in case u guys have any ideas. Cheers.

Hey all. I had the trial version (build 2195) of Win2000 insytalled and the 3.76 drivers installed for my CL TNT2U on a VIA based system board. Now, everythingw as fine - no lockups, UT and DVD's fibne, but then i decided to instal Win2000 final release from withing Windows, i.e. to simply "upgrade" the trial version to the final version. Sounds simple, but after a lot of errors during the install (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL..etc) I eventually got back into Windows but I can now only use a VGA driver. If I load up the 3.76 driver in the normal way (no fancy clean installs here!), it seems to instll fine BUT when I reboot I just get a black screen instead of a desktop. So I can then go into Safe Mode (or Last Known Good) and load up the 3.76 driver from Device Manager. However, if I change the res or colour at all, the screen just blanks out again?! What's the story with that? It was all working fine before. I will attempt one of the suggestions above when i get home but does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

Hi there. Yep, I have CDRW (HP-7200) but in Win2000 I only have Easy CD Creator 4 installed....no Direct-CD at all. Fromk reading other posts, these problems seems to be related to APM and/or SBLive! card drivers. Lets just hope we get to the bottom of it soon! Cheers.

Hi there. Ok I disabled APM in the Control Panel, rebooted and now when I power the system off I get to the "safe to power off your PC" message...no blue screen error. So am I stuck with this? Like, do I have a Windows problem here or a hardware (BIOS) problem with APM? Any ideas? Thanks.

Howaya. I was getting that error on shutdown all the time and so I had to disable APM in Power in the Control Panel to stop it...but now I have to power the system off manually...): (it just sits on the "now safe to turn off your PC" message). Take care.

"With Winamp I found that setting the buffer size to 1! worked brilliantly." Er...where is that setting for the buffer in Winamp?!\ Thanks.

Hey there. I have this exact same pronblem. It has to be the SBLive! card and maybe when Creative come along and release a driver update or patch, this will be resolved. Another thing is that Win2000 doesn't seem t play MP3's as well or as clear as Win98. I think it's a decoding problem so we may have to live with it for a time....and yes, it is annoying! Anyone else?

Hi there. Now you mention it, the problem did start when I enabled APM in Win2000 (I never changed the BIOS settings for APM). Before I enabled it I was shutting the system down and it would just get to the "It is now safe to power off" screen,. So I enabled APM to try t get it to power off altogether. I'm at work right now so I'll let you know later today how I got on.... Cheers.
