Hellbringer said: "My MP3s are playing in the rear and front channels. However the center and sub do not appear to be working for MP3s. But in surround sound games the center does work and so does the sub. Is this normal?" absolutely normal, that is exactly what mine does as well. it up converts stereo into 4 channel (dual stereo), but you have to have the creative software (crapware) to do the 5.1 in software.

NV18 & NV28:NVIDIA Chips with AGP-8x Flavor - a waste?

he's saying that even tho a system doees not have an isa slot you still have isa devices. floppy and ps2 are inherently isa devices, no slot but the hardware is internally isa. didnt know that about usb 1.0 and 1.1 tho. learn something new everday. -
um what hellbringer? your question makes little or no sense. i think you got a typo here. please clarify "Because my MP3s play on the front and the rear channels but never the front"? if you are using the analog out, properly configured to be for 5.1 audio in the audigy / live setup, almost all games (again properly configured in the game) will play in 5.1. i believe if you set your Windows speaker set up to 5.1, mp3's will play in at least the front and back. i know mine do. also there are probably various enviroment setting on your 5.1 reciever to output a stereo input into a psuedo 5.1 output, depends on your reciever tho. your MP3's should be coming out the front speakers at the very least tho, if they come out the rear only then you have a wiring issue, probably got the front and back mixed up. I wasnt aware that the center/sub output were the same, i thought it had a built in crossover... but i never really looked into i just assumed. i am gonna check that out when i get home from work. the digital 5.1 spdif only outputs stereo for games/mp3's and 5.1 for 5.1 encoded dolby digital dvd's. the nforce is the only audio solution that will digitally output games, music etc, into a dolby digital 5.1 stream. remember the audigy cannot encode dolby 5.1. wich is why an analog output to a home receiver is necassary to play games in 5.1 on that receiver. hope this helps.

last week we rolled out SP3 to all 4,000+ systems here at work. so far no problems.

i use ghost and a DVD+rw burner. make a ghost image of my main drive on another HD from a DOS boot disk then burn that image to dvd in windows. after a HD failure it takes me about 5 minutes to recover.

aaaarrrrhgggghhhh.... deleted striped volume and made into 2 seperate HD's. i set the pf to be 1024 to 2048 on C: it created 1024 pagefile.sys on C and a 1.5gb pf on F... AGAIN! grrr... gonna create a pf on c and f again on purpose and see what that does.. gotta go to werk for now though.

it was a fun game but it started dying on me a long time ago, pre-win2k along time ago.... it won't even install correct on any of my systems... it has hardware compatiblility issues as well as software... i gave up years ago.

F is what i boot from, it DOES have ntldr on it but it is not IDE, it is SCSI like C, F drive is SCSI drive 0, the "boot" drive. if i put a 32 meg pf on it and a pf of anysize on c, i only have the 32 mb pf on F... it puts no pf on C... according to windows (advanced options) but it does put a pagefile.sys file on C.. it just does not use it... (i can tell the difference between a 32mb pf and a 1.5gb performance wise) (I listen to HD access my C has a very different sound than F)... is it because my C drive is a software stripe maybe? never behaved like this before(pre sp-1), maybe i should backup me shite and unstripe to see if thats it...
-
that leaves me with just a 32 mg pf on F, it won't put a full pf on C... i set it to: 1536 on C and a 32 on F and i get just a 32 mb pf on F... WTF?

under control panel, admin tools, computer management, disk management, does it show your cd-rom drives there? if so, does it have a drive letter assigned to them? if not, just right click on them and choose change drive letter and path... this is a very common bug with win2000 that seems to have gotten worse with XP. lemme know if you have any luck

i'm loving my new MSI K7N420 mobo. Was never a big fan of MSI before, took the advise of a friend of mine, lovin it! I blame Nvidia.

Just to throw in my $.02 on the topic of 500 point spreads. I run a small computer store, all the game systems (most of what we sell) we sell are burned in with 3dmark2k1 for 24 hours; I've done this to well over a 1,000 systems now. With that said, i KNOW how 3dmark2k1 performs on a WIDE variety of systems. I have found that a 500 point spread is more common with VIA chipset systems, be they Intel or Amd. Mind you, it's not just the Via chipsets, but they do it the most. Amd, Intel and Nvidia chipset MOBO's consistantly vary the least , often as little as 5 - 10 points on average. SIS and ALI are duking it out for # 2 and #3 with a spread from 100 - 300 on any given run (the first is usually the slowest). This is just my observation on an extremely wide variety of systems, i am not dogging anyone. Oh, and i have found 3dmark to be pretty useful as a test stability wise. If your system can run it for 24 hours straight, its stable.

it mostly works here, haven't been able to make multiplayer work since i upgraded to 2k kernel. hmmm.

Man, the image quality on the PNY model sucks horrible a$$! my old voodoo 3 3000 from 2 years ago had better tv out. text is completely fuzzy and totally unreadable! any one else got this problem? any one got a different brand of geforce 4 with tv out that rocks? damnit, the promise of superior tv out is one of the reasons i bought this thing! and yea, i am using an svideo cable. output to a Sony Wega XBR400 HDTV. BTW, i heard that SOMEONE was making a dvi to component (HDTV) adapter. anyone hear about this?
-
yeah, i know that. but like i said, my previous cards had better tv out. My Asus gf2 gts and my Asus gf3 both had tv out with text that was readable just fine. The Asus gf3 had a good clean crisp image, you could surf the web or whatever just fine. This is worse than my old voodoo 3. Thats really is saying something. i might just drop $100 on a vga to component out adapter i've seen. set up the second display as 1280 x 1024 interlaced at 60hz using powerstrip and i've got a 36 inch second moniter.
-
define "fine" please text is readable?
-
i have tried multiple cables, i am presently using a monster cable. i get waviness moving from the right to left on all darker screens as well as the text bluriness... kinda like watching the tide wash acroos my screen... considering the huge custom ramsinks i have attached to my memory it won't be easy to take it back. SOME ONE with a PNY please try out their tv out and let me know what success you have on image quality. if this is just this one card i am gonna have to figure out a way to get my arctic silver epoxy'ed ramsinks off, and exchange the bugger. thanks for any help available.
-
the tv out on this card is powered by a conexant chip, the cx25871. it is supposed to be very good.
-
totally unplayable here, just constantly stutters, even at 640 x 480! utterly craptacular. everything else runs butter smooth at 1600 x 1200.

audiograbber with lame encoder.

geforce 4 will have some awesome dualhead capability. same type as radeon 8500 (Dual tsmd?). There's a reason its in the drivers, its about to arrive at nvidia big time.
-
as far as i know it crashes for everyone with eax on. ive tried 98se winme and win2000, none of em worked. these OS's on various different computers running different hardware. me and my friends all just disable eax.
