Burned disc isn't recognized for a while

I had the same problems using Nero and Diskjuggler - until I disabled the XP built in burning support. Since then, I have had no issues. BlaZeR2

Okay, I know this is an old game, but it is pretty slick to play every now and again. Anyway, I noticed on the compatibility sheets, that someone said it plays fine. SO I tried to install it, and I get an error when trying to install, everytime. EUB334.exe caused and error...blah, blah blah.... Does anyone know what I need to do to install this game. Thanks Win 2k with all updates Dual 550 768 MB Ram other stuff some other stuff and some crap BlaZeR2 Thanks

i thought that the cd might be bad too, but it will install fine in Xp and Me. - so that kinda ruled that possibility out unfortunately... (that was an easy fix) It is the original cd... I don't know why i care so much, it is an old game, but it was fun in its prime, thought it might be fun to play agian. BlaZeR2

    Monster Truck Madness 2

Okay, i will try to explain this again. I have the sp2 and the newest compatibility app installed. I make a shortcut to the setup program on the cd, then adjust the compatibility mode for the shortcut, run the shortcut (whichs runs without the need for compatibility stuff) and it starts installing. Right before it actually begins copying files to my harddrive, i get an error in a difference exe file (i.e., not the setup program) The file appears to be a exe file that the setup program calls during the install. I have searched for this file on the cd, but can't find it. So i can't change the compatibility for the called file because i can't find it and cannot make a shortcut to it. and it creates this error whether i run the setup.exe with compatibility mode on or off. BlaZeR2 Thanks for the help and advice

Yeah, I already had that installed when trying to install the game. Unfortunately, when trying to install the game, Setup.exe has no problems, it is a secondary executable that causes issues. This file cannot be found on the cd, so there is no way to run it under compatibility mode. The odd thing is, MTM2 installs and plays just fine on Windows XP without messing with the compatablity settings BlaZeR2

    Promise Ultra66 screwing up shutdown

My drives attached to a Fasttrack 66 do the same thing I don't like it, so I just manually power down the box, when the "Shutting Down" dialog goes away. I have no solution for you however. -just wanted you to know you weren't alone ;-) BlaZeR2

    IIS 5.1 from RC1

I have the same problem with XP. When trying to configure IIS, it asks me for a password, or says that it can't start the service. Sounds like an MS problem, not a user problem. BlaZeR2

    SMP problems

Adding a second processor does not require a reinstall of the os Simply check your computer under device manager chances are your computer is using the driver for ACPI computer (or ACPI Uniprocessor) right click on it, do a driver update and tell it to show all hardware if it displayed ACPI, then select ACPI Multiprocessor system if it displayed standard computer, select multiprocessor computer basically, you can change the drivers between ACPI uni and multi, and between standard and multi BUT NOT between Standard and ACPI if it was acpi it must be changed to ACPI multi it if wasn't acpi, it cannot be changed to acpi. then reboot it should boot just fine. if it doesn't boot (BSOD)(meaning you messed up the the ACPI thing then you can just boot with the 2000 cd. and choose to automatically repair the installation. it will automatically do it, reboot and all will be well. either way, still much faster and easier than a reinstall. you didn't upgrade your motherboard, and you didn't change anything dramatically, you will be fine without reinstalling BlaZeR2

    IDE RAID Setup

Good Luck. You will not regret going to a rad setup.

    IDE RAID Setup

I have done this several times on two different raid controllers: Abit BP6 using a hacked Promise Ultra 66 => fasttrack 66 card with two WD 7200 20 GB drives in Raid 0 Abit KT7A-Raid on the onboard HPT-370 controller with the same drives connect both drives to the controller, for better performance, connect each as master to the seperate channels. The controller has it's own bios, just like a scsi card. When the controller's bios flashes on screen, it will have instructions on what keys to press to set it up, usually Ctrl-H pressing those keys gets you into the bios. There is usually an option to create array. select that. Choose the two drives you want to include in the array (the two connected to the controller will be the only ones listed) then tell it what kind of array to make, either Striped or Mirrored. Then choose your Stripe size, if you chose striping. the defualt seems to be 64k, but you can choose anywhere from 4k up to 256k. I normally do 16k or 64k. Slight performance variations, not nothing too noticable. then select "create array" and it should do. Exit the bios, and it iwill reboot if you are installing Windows 2000, then you will need the drivers of your raid controller (on floppy) when you boot to the 2000 disk. When it first starts, hit F6 to install the drivers. follow the directions to install the drivers and you are good to go. Windows will see your array as 1 large drive (40 GB in my example). You can then partition the array into any combination you want during the 2000 setup process. That is all there is to do in 2000 Windows 9x, Me is a little different, but just as easy. Once you created the array in the bios. Boot to boot disk, and run Fdisk. partition your array anyway you like. reboot to the boot disk and then format. Formatting is important for performance. If you selected 16k stripes, then you want to format with "format c: /Z:32" (32 * 512 bytes = 16 kB) => this sets your block size to match your stripe size. if you did 64 then use "format c: /Z:128" then it will format, reboot and install the 9x or Me. that is all there is to it. If you need more help, let me know. Good Luck BlaZeR2

    TDK CDRWs

I am currently using a TDK VeloCD 1210 on a dual Win2k system it came with nero 5, which i used for a while, but recently switched to adaptec 4 EZ CD. Direct CD 3 with the latest update, supports drive, so you get packet writing in 2000. This drive is also fully CloneCD compatible. I would recomend it whole-heartedly. After all, it is just a rebadge of the Plextor 1210A BlaZeR2
  13. Fresh install of 2000 on a new Dell computer. system properties says that the pagefile is set to a minimum of 382MB and a max of 768 MB. A quick property check of the actual file confirms the size to be 382 MB. Unfortunately, the system states that only 20 MB of this is currently allocated. This number is locked at 20 MB. No amount of tweaking, deleting, moving, or size changing will allow the current allocation of the pagefile to increase. This makes it almost impossible to run any usefull program. Has anybody seen, heard, or dealt with this before. Please help, as I am at my wits end. Thanks BlaZeR2 P3 800 256 MB GeForce 2 GTS SBlive 3 Com NIC WD 7200 RPM 40 GB 8x4x32 Burner -all IDE

    Transparent menus and windows

Windowblinds is made by Stardock, the same company that makes WindowsFX. They both run on Windows 2000 very well (windowsFX was made for 2000). They work very well, with a lot of option to make menus windows transparent. WindowsFX deals more with the transparency though. Windowblinds is more a skinning program to change the apperance of the OS. BlaZeR2

    Tiger Woods 2000

Anyone know how to get Tiger Woods 2000 Golf to work in Windows 2000? When I start the game it immediatly goes to an error message. Does anyone know if SP1 fixes this problem? Thanks BlaZeR2
  17. How would this be any different from a cable modem network. I am only speaking about the need for additional security or firewall protection. With a cable modem, everybody on your node is basically on the same network as you. If data is broadcasted, everybody gets it, it is up to the PC to differentiate what data it needs and what data it ignores....this same theory is behind the Palm Wireless network in large cities...correct? If I am wrong, or way off base, please, someone, correct me. This is just what I thought.... BlaZeR2
  18. From what I have heard in the past, it works by inducing a magnetic field in the coating of the wires, not anything in the wires themselve. And it is possible to achieve those speeds on a straight piece of wire, but as soon as the powerline approaches a transformer station, (and they all must at one point), the magnetic field gets disrupted by the interference. Last I heard they had no idea how to overcome this setback, as this idea has been around for a few years now. Just giving my $.02 worth, take it for what it is worth. BlaZeR2

    New Liveware, same old problems

I am running ACPI and SMP, butmy soundblaster live isn't sharing any IRQ's. Why am I still getting pops and crackles in EAX or 3D audio games? I don't understand Should I reinstall without ACPI? also, how do I get Windows 2000 to use virtual IRQ's? My IrQs only go up to 18. I have heard of people having IRQ's in the 100's before. I just really want to be able to use EAX and 3D sound in games (Diablo II). Plus i like hibernation also. Please, any advice? thanks BlaZeR2

    New Liveware, same old problems

What about those of us that have all the popping and crap, but don't have scsi adapters. (unless the HT366 Ultra 66 controller counts as a scsi adapter) I learned (using diablo 2) that if you lower the hardware acceleration 1 notch, it disables EAX, if you lower two notches, it disables 3d sound (surround) BLaZeR2

Problems with my win2k inst. on BP6

I get the exact same problem. I have been investigating the situation for quite some time now. i am overclocking dual celery 366 to 550 with 100 mhz fsb. I think this is the problem. I also get some errors in event viewer about the HT366 controllers timing out while waiting for an interupt or something. I think this is an overclocking issue also. I recently declocked my cpu's back down to 366 to test the results, so far, no crashes. However the crashes were not that common in the first place, maybe one a day. If any body knows anything about this, i would appreciate help, I am running two ultra 33 drives on the secondary channel of teh ultra 66 controller because the primary controller won't recognize that i have any drives plugged into it. Thanks BlaZeR2

BP6, QQ BIOS (final) and W2K solution

I had the problem with one CPU running at 50% only when i installed the new bios, and loaded the windows driver for ACPI. Currently i am running with the new bios with the windows MPS multi-processor driver. If anybody has any more information on this, let me know. I don't understand why when running ACPI, my 2nd processor is at 50% when nothing is running.... Thanks BlaZeR2
