Using Windows XP Professional: Is there a simple way to setup permissions and user access? Perhaps the same way as Win2k? Is it possible to share a folder, allowing access to various network users but not the entire network? I have not been able to find this functionality in WinXP... Thanks! mote

The drive work around listed on Ansible's site does work very well. I have tested it with 3 systems using 3dfx video cards. However the quotation supplied which originates from www.petitiononline.com is not only inflammitory, but grossly incorrect. Let's rehash: 3dfx sold to Nvidia their board inventory and intellectual properties. Nvidia did not purchase 3dfx Interactive. It hurts to see a great company go down the drain, but it unfortunately does happen.

Here's the problem: I replaced a nic and since winme refused to completely shut down. All of the leds go off but the fans keep running. Any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks

I'm sure a few people would be interested if this is possible. A lengthy search of the forums yielded zero results. I connect to the internet through dialup. Poor dialup actually. 31.2kbps max, often 26.4kbps. I tend to reinstall win98 on my wife's computer about once a month to clean up the junk (why does she need a stupid purple ape to read her email to her?). I also tend to reinstall win2k on my system after fiddling around with services or registry entries. It would be fantastic if I could download all of the Win2k and Win98 updates and burn them onto a cd. Is this possible? Where can I find all of the patches/updates? Unfortunately the MS knowledgebase either didn't have the info, or I was looking in the wrong place. If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm looking into purchasing this m/b. Has anyone else here used this m/b? Any particular quirks or problems? Thanks

Nope. No changes at all. Not in Bios, not in WinMe

Welp, I'm still not able to set the hardware acceleration to full. But when I do (set acceleration to full) I no longer get repeating sounds, instead some sounds skip much like an old vinyl album. Something thats been bothering me while reading various SBLive related threads: why is there a faction of board members whom are "religiously adamant" that all the SBLive + Win2k problems are caused by Via chipsets and/or poor quality components? Under Win2k my SBLive refuses to work properly (as advertised) either in my Asus A7Pro or my Abit SE6. However, it works near flawless on both systems under Win98 or WinMe. Why am I incorrect to assume the Win2k drivers are subpar?

After a fresh install of Win2k +SP2 +Latest Drivers +EQ, Eq starts just dandy. However it pauses a very long time just before displaying characters for selection, and I get a BSOD Stop error when I try to change resolution. A search of the forums turned up a few other people experiencing the same problems but without any fixes. Is there anyone out there that can help? Thanks.

I currently have the Win2k Pro Upgrade cd and an unable to install the o/s. When it wants proof of previous o/s I stick in my Win95 (osr2) cd and the Win2k installation fails to recognize that cd. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What are my options? Thanks, Mote

I recently purchased a new hard drive for my system. The current setup has one 10G hdd in 2 partitions. Win2k on C: and Win98 on D: (partitions 1 and 2 respectively). I understand that when I add the 2nd hdd the system will not be able to boot into win98 because it will look for the proper files on the new (blank) hdd, and will consider the 2nd partition on my first drive "E:" thus mucking up my dual boot. There must be a way around this, I really don't feel like installing the o/s'es all over again. Any ideas? Does partition magic have the ability to move my Win98 partition to the new drive then resize the old drive to be one partition for Win2k (without the constant need of a 3rd party program)? Mote

I use FAT32 for all of the partitions right now. Thx! Mote

I currently have win2k and ntfs installed on my drive "C". I recently purchased a second hard drive to run as "D" and wish to install win98se on this new drive. When I boot from the win98 boot disk and the system only sees the new drive as drive "C", then I run setup on the win98 cd. The install routine copies files to the hard drive but then stops with an error stating that the drive is either ntfs or has errors and needs to be re-formatted or fixed before the install can continue. Is there anyway to install a new operating system after win2k has been installed, without 3rd party software? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

BtW, I have read some of the previous posts regarding installing win9x after win2k. However the problem persists that the win9x installation hangs with the error mentioned above. I just thought I would clear that up for all the wonderful people (gag) who enjoy replying with "do a search, there are many posts that answer this..." Thank you, but I do not believe this particular error has been addressed before thanks!

Well, I've spent weeks scouring this board and various sites, as well as constant e-mails to (and from) Creative Labs tech support. However, for some unknown reason I could not get any sound from my rear speakers. Nada, zilch. Since I bought a Live! X-Gamer to replace my MX300 (which I figure will never see proper drivers from Aureal) I have tried re-installing Win2k, re-installing Liveware2000 (both multiple times) and had begun a "check-list" of any possible solution to try (I used to run O/S2 ). I had been trying different things when rebooting with "2 Speaker" setup under AudioHQ>Speaker. Well I began listening to a few mp3s when I decided to select "4 Speaker" output and poof, I got sound from all 4 speakers. This is the first time I had heard anything out of the rear speakers since I removed my trusty MX300. Now, I haven't rebooted since but I feel certain its finally working Here's another question though; can anyone explain why this worked? (yes, all of the wires have always been plugged in properly )

Well I had sharing working partially (not completely) but now it doesn't work at all Computer #1 runs Win2k with a standard nic which came with NT50 drivers. Computer #2 runs Win98se with the same brand nic and proper win98 drivers. The computers can ping each other Comp1 can share its internet dialup with Comp2 without any problems Comp1 can host a lan game of UT and Comp2 can connect and play (likewise for comp2) Comp1 and Comp2 are in the same workgroup "workgroup" Problem #1: when I try to browse the workgroup with Comp1 I get the following error: "Workgroup is not accessable. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." Well dammit. I don't recall changing any settings at all. How can I make the workgroup accessible? Problem #2: before problem #1 Comp1 was able to browse Comp2 and see all the shared drives and folders but Comp2 could not see Comp1 in the workgroup. Comp2 can see itself in the workgroup. Comp1 cannot see itself in the workgroup. Any ideas? Please accept my apologies if this has been answered before, however I have taken the time to search all the msg boards here for "share", "sharing", and "network" without any luck. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Mote

Hmmm, some more info: Both nics have been tested at all speeds and are currently both set to 10mbps full duplex. Neither nic is set to "Auto Negotiate" since I understand this can cause problems. I have been able to rectify problem #1. For some unknown (ie: stupid) reason I had disabled the Lan Connection. Well, thats what I get for trying to set up this Peer to Peer Lan at 5am without any sleep Perhaps its important to know that I am using a Cross-over cat5 instead of regular cat5 and a hub. I have created a login on the win2k system that matches the login on the win98se system. New Problem Both Comp1 and Comp2 show up in the workgroup in Comp1's Network Neighbourhood. However it still won't let me browse Comp2 with Comp1 :\ The error is: "\\Comp2 is not accessible. The account is not authorized to login from this station." So I now am seeking insight into problem 2 and 3, if anyone can offer their expert opinions? Thanks! Mote

I honestly bought a boxed version of the Win2k upgrade cd. I upgraded from an oem win98 version purchased with a new system. I guess thats honest all around? For the OS anyway, games are another matter entirely

Its probably because of the immaturity or lack of drivers for a lot of hardware. Blizzard wants to deal with fixing problems with >their< own software and not problem solve for Microsoft. Mote

Well, I just purchased the WinTv card, a local shop had them onsale for $24.99 Anyway, what is the difference between the display modes. On primary I seemed to get horrible picture quality so I changed it to Dim Draw an it seems much better. However the quality is still far below my old ATI isa tuner card. The problem there is ATI stopped supporting that card just after win95 launched :\ Thanks

Ok, I have the sound working in Asheron's Call with my mx300 now I simply turned off the hardware acceleration for the soundcard. Its buried and might be tricky to find but it has worked for me
-
I have the exact same problem with Asheron's Call and Win2k. The final sound I seem to be able to get is when I log on and portal into Dereth. Oh well, I thought the noise drudge skulkers made was annoying anyway

Ok, here's another question that popped in my mind because of this thread. I have an Abit BH6 rev1.0 with the latest bios and my computer isset as "Standard PC"; am I missing an functions or abilities because of this? Thx

I am certain that the Diamond v770 cards are true to the reference design. You may be experiencing problems because of a messed up driver installation. You should try dling the latest Nvidia ref drivers and unzipping them to their own directory. Change your video card drivers to standard VGA then reboot. Install the new drivers andany problems should be taken care of. Give it a try and let us know
