Opera has tab browsing, IE does not. You can customize every part of Opera, IE you can’t. Opera is faster then IE. Opera has a smaller footprint then IE. Opera has cross platform support so you can run it on almost any OS. Yes, Opera has a lot going for it.

It's Nortons disk utilitys that I have had the most problems with. I'm not sure how they are under 9x because I've been using NT then W2k then XP sence '97.
-
I refuse to infect my box with anything "Norton". As far as the pagefile goes: if the drive heads have to move from the inner part of the drive (partition 1) to the outer part of the drive (partiton 2) you will lose performance. The leas amount of movement the drive heads has to make(same partition), the better the performance will be. Unless those heads are on a seperate drive, then they are working at the same time as the the heads on the first drive. Any time you put the pagefile on a different partition on the same drive you will lose performance simlply because the heads has to R/W on the OS partition and then move across the drive to R/W to the pagefile on the other partition and then move back to the OS partiton.

It may slow you down if you put the page file on a different partition on the same drive. You want to put the page file on a different drive if you have one, if you don't have a second drive leave the page file alone. If you put it on the same drive the heads will have to do more work then if they are on seperate drives.

I’m 100% with clutch on this. BTW, the original question could have been: Can I use a freight train to run to the store to get some milk? Or the more popular: Should I cut this butter with my chain saw? Neither are things you should be playing with. Using any server for a desktop is overkill and pointless and I doubt many people would spend $700 to $800 for desktop OS. There are other way’s to get it but if you got it by one of the other way’s, you would already know the answer to your question’s. I'm not sure this applies to you but by your questions and your replies it does sound like it does.

XP pro and Epox 8K7A: Should I install the Via 4 in 1's?

Is your system working? If so, leave it alone, If not, it might be worth a try. For me they have borked more then they ever fixed. -
What are some good antivirus programs to use with XP other t
Ge0ph replied to pr-man's topic in Software
I have to agree with AlecStaar, I've been using Ontrack (which uses the trend AV engine) for a long time and have been very happy with it. -
I'm not sure but I don't even think a CD rom will be detected on that controller. Best way to find out is hook it up and see.

good way to backup mails in outlook express???
Ge0ph replied to rgodart's topic in Customization & Tweaking
On my wifes machine I just did a search for *.dbx files and copyed them to a backup location. Then after a re-install I just told Outlook Express to import from those dbx files at the backup location. If you are using Outlook then you need to do the same but with *.pst files. -
Drag and drop does not work for me either and I don't have a "burn CD" option.

Wouldn't this be a job for the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" built into XP? I don't know for sure because I have never played with this tool. But then again, Microsoft licence's that copy of XP for that machine and they want you to buy a new copy for any new machines. Let us know how you manage to do it and how it turns out.
