Getting a mail server to work

I think you will need "Exchange Server" or another email server program. I use Internet Anywhere Mail Server from True North Software. It seems to do all I need to do. The link: http://www.tnsoft.com/

No problems with 2 NICs in NT4 on a P75?

Yes you can have two nics in one computer. I have set this up under both NT4 and W2k. I would use one nic for the DSL internet connection and the second nic for my internal network. After I got my Linksys DSL router I no longer had a need to do this.

Here's a good way to screw up your system.

I agree, I can't count how many pc's I've had to un-f*ck because of norton stuff. I will not infect my computer with any norton programs. I know some people swear by this crap but not me. I think it's some of the poorest set of programs ever. Just my opinion.
  4. It could also be your memory. Do have just one 256 stick or two 128's? Try swaping them out and see what happens. Or maybe try different video drivers, just because they are the latest doesn't mean they are the best.

    Partitions in Win2k

Yes, for servers you will need ServerMagic. Kind of sucks don't it.
  6. http://www.windows2000faq.com/ can tell you how to setup your DNS server.
  7. IIS works fine. I have four seperate web sits on my server and they work fine. www.thirdwish.cc www.ge0ph.com www.twrbs.com www.snowprinciess.net I have DSL and I use a Linksys DSL router so I'm not sure how you would set it up using dialup. You might find an answeer over at http://www.windows2000faq.com/
  8. It's DesktopX from Stardock. With DesktopX you can do just about anything you want and it's a lot easier to use then Litestep. You can see some more screenshots at http://www.wincustomize.com/ that are far more complicated then the ones I make.
  9. Stardock is working on a porgram that will tie many different skined apps together. It will save the skins for the different apps in one file and then when you change the theme it will change all the apps skins to match. I think it will be pretty cool when it's done.
  10. It's called LiteXIII and the auther is MadiceXIII.
  11. Are you on a T1, DSL, dial up or what? Do you have a static IP? How are you hooked to the internet?

    ADSL Sharing........

Sygate was the best I ever used, until I got my Linksys router and it kicks much ***.
  13. I just posted some more screenshots at my site. What's funny is right now I'm running straight windows with no mods. It is getting boring so I will problably start moding my desktop today.
  14. Thanks for the comments on my site and desktop. My GUI is done with Stardock programs included with Object Desktop. What I like about Object Desktop is that you can use as much or as little as you like. I really don't see much of a performance hit with all the eyecandy on. My system is a dual 533, 384megs of ram, and a Radeon 32 vid card.
  15. Pythagoras, Do you mean something like
  16. JMD, Because you run CAD and 3D modeling I would suggest one and a half your physical memory. Those types of apps can be very memory intinsive. If you go to http://arstechnica.com/tweak/nt/index.html you will find all kinds of good info about tweaking you system.
  17. The best way to judge you page file is to open your task manager and go to the performance tab. Look at the Commit Charge section. Total is the amount you are using right now, Limit is the sum of your physical and page, and the peak is the largest amount of memory you have used during this session. After running your computer for a while doing the stuff you normally do look at the peak. If your peak does not come close to the limit you can lower your page file size until the two numbers are closer. The limit should always be bigger then the peak, if it’s not you will be getting virtual memory errors. If you do get these errors just up you page file in small amounts at a time ( I usually bump mine up 16mb at a time) Right now I have 384mb of ram and my page file is 64mb and I never come close to my limit unless I play some games. If I did not play games I could get away with setting my page file to 12mb. It may access it first but it access’s it a lot less forcing Windows to use the faster physical memory. I’ve been using this formula sense NT4 SP3 and it has always given me my best performance.

MSIE6.0 and Wells Fargo Online - OUCH!

I've been using Opera 5. After playing with it for awhile I really like it. It's a better alternative then Netscape.

good pagefile size for 256mb ram?

I have 384megs of ram and I set mine to 64 and I never come close to the peak. I do a lot of wallpaper graphics and Access database's (at the same time).

    Virtual Drive for Windows 2000?????

OK, D.F. Angel, where can we get it? Got Linkage?
  22. Sorry about the harshness of my last post but I had just finished a week with no less the three computers in my shop from people who don’t think they need an AV or firewall. I warned them. Even if you don’t get hacked, your computer can be used as a stepping stone for a hacker to use on the way to a target. If you don’t have or use an AV then you have no way of knowing if you have a Trojan on your system. Some one else could be using you system to hack into a corporate site and you would never know it, until the FBI comes knocking at your door telling you a major computer system was hacked and the hack was traced back to your box. It’s kind of like having unprotected ***. Ge0ph
  23. I really don't want to insult anyone here, BUT, Cardinal, your an idiot. I know from experience that every thing you say just isn't so, and the stuff that DosFreak says is absolute truth, I know that from experience also. I don’t need to repeat what DosFreak has said.
