i'm having some problems w/ apache 2.0.52 (i think, it's the newest version). sometimes i cannot connect to my site at all, i'll do a restart & it'll work for a bit, then lose the connection. i have a router & the router is setup properly to allow traffic to just this pc (i have another for web browsing). i started having this problem before i upgraded to the new apache, so i'm not sure where the problem is. my ftp server works just fine, so i'm thinking it's somewhere in apache but i don't know where. help!?

i really just want to learn linux, etc. i think i'm gonna try mandrake 10.1. i have redhat 9.1 (i think) at home. probably put that on tonite until i get mandrake 10.1

i'm new to linux & wanted to check it out. what distro would you suggest? i noticed the thread below that had suse & mandrake. i tried mandrake a long time ago but didn't have the time to dig in, now i do. so, what's the best 'free' linux distro?

we both use comcast for our internet connection x) which shouldn't be the problem at all, because my other friend has comcast & it works fine for him.

ok, i tried everything mentioned above & i even tried adding in my ip address & website name into his host file. nothing worked! i'm at such a loss right now.

My friend is unable to access my website from his winXP laptop. He can get to every other page but mine. i ran a traceroute on my site from his laptop & recieved the following results: Tracing route to www.thanksalotalgore.net [66.41.73.165] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 * * * Request timed out. 4 * * * Request timed out. 5 * * * Request timed out. 6 * * * Request timed out. 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 * * * Request timed out. 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 * * * Request timed out. 15 * so, it's not going through once. After running hte traceroute, i'm not too sure what else to do. No one else has problems accessing my site at all, just him. help!

does anyone have recommendations for intranet software? i work for a Credit union w/ 17 employees, so we're not huge by any means. i have front page but don't like it at all. i'd like something relatively cheap. i'm using win2003 sbs, IIS6. thanks in advance

i'm running apache2.0.49 on a winserver2003 box. within the last few days, my website isn't accessible to the outside world, but i can access it via mozilla on my host pc. a few days ago i uninstalled active directory & i lost alot of stuff that had to be reinstalled so this may be the cause but i'm not totally sure. apache is running just fine on my pc & the ip address is correct with my dns host. i'm at a loss right now.

thanks. prolly just buy a cd-rw. on a sidenote, what's the fastest/easiest way to setup a home network or share files between a winxp home pc & win 2003 enterprise edition pc. i have a hub that they connect to which allows them all to connect to the net. i mainly just want to be able to share files between the 2 pc's. don't need active directory ,etc. thanks.

just a regular cd reader. i'm thinking hte problem might be that it's so old (it is a dell dimension v333c, not exactly new) & win2003 server doesn't support a lot of it. i'm thinking about just putting a cd-rw in there. don't have warranty on the pc anymore either.

i got a new dell server (poweredge 400sc) with win2003 server to use for a planned intranet at work. i didn't want it running active directory because i just want it as a member of our current domain. so i ran a dcpromo to demote active directory & i'm pretty sure it just deleted AD. every since then it's very slow in rebooting, logging off, etc. So i wanted to just re-install the SBS2003 o/s, when i do it says 'unable to access the active directory'. i'm at a loss of what to do on a sidenote, when everyone logged in today this message was on everyone's pc: 'Message from INTRANET to STARTRIB on 04/19/04 5:56 a.m. INTRANET does not comply with the licensing requirements. Contact your system administrator.' INTRANET is the name of the SBS 2003 server that will run our intranet & STARTRIB is the main server (which runs sbs2000)
