No, that didn't solve anything. The problem isn't that I don't have the options to choose refresh rate in Windows. Whenever I run a game (I have only tried Glide based games so far, I don't know if I have the problem in Direct 3D as well) the refresh rate defaults to 60 hz, which of course is bad for my eyes. Before I reinstalled Windows 2000 the refresh rate was at 85 hz in 1024x768 in games, but I used some earlier drivers then. Is there a way to fix this ? Edit the registry ? Or hack a .inf-file ?

My PC suddenly crashed earlier today, everything just froze and the PC would not respond. First time this has ever happened to me in Windows 2000. Anyway, I pressed the reset button and rebooted, but now my harddrive is behaving strange. It takes a long time to boot, and the harddrive is making a disturbing noise every 25 seconds. The noise goes something like this: it sounds like something is being written or read from it, first 3 short sounds, then 4 slightly longer sounds, then 3 short sounds again, and then at the end the 4 longer sounds. In the 5 seconds this goes on everything is slowed down, and only the mouse responds. I don't seem to have lost any data (yet), but I suspect of course that the harddrive is wrecked. I have checked the harddrive with Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, and it is not infected. The harddrive is an IBM DPTA-372050 ATA-66 20500 MB 7200 RPM. I am running a Celeron 400 mhz @ 500 mhz on an Abit BH6 with 128 mb ram.

The RCG in Windows 2000 is not working like it should ! It was perfect under Windows 95 and Windows 98. Any ideas ?

If you boot with the Windows 2000 cd you can delete any partition from the setup app.

Unzip the .exe and run setup (I THINK this is what I did, but my memory is ruined by too much alcohol).

Tweaki...for Power Users http://www.jermar.com/ It has an option under 'Performance Tweaks' to 'Increase application performance during print jobs'. Maybe this could help ? -

Mijenix is aware of the problem with Powerdesk, and say a patch will be available. No word about when though. The FAQ says nothing about this... shame on you Mijenix !!!

In 'Power Options Properties' I have set the hard disk to turn off after 30 mins. After 30 mins the hard disk is not turned off. Even after a whole night of idling the hard disk is still running. Any ideas ? Windows 2000 Pro build 2195 Hard disk: IBM DPTA 372050 Motherboard: Abit BH6

Could this be an APM problem ? I have ACPI enabled in bios but I only have APM in windows. I'll try the latest bios tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed !
