Windows millenium is retarded. I cant for the life of me figure out why they removed real mode dos support even if the base of it still uses dos. Are they trying to trick us or something? www.bootdisk.com there. I too think it would be cool to have dos diskettes bundled with win2k. Even better yet why not just make it a boot option. ;-). But I guess that is like trying to mix apples and oranges.

Thanks for your help. I couldnt fix it with bootpart. ntldr wasnt there so what I did was run win2k setup from within win98 and when it rebooted I chose win98 in the multiboot. Then I added this line to boot.ini manually. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect and deleted the other setup line. LOL. I know it probobly couldve been done a better way but I just couldnt get bootpart to work. I must have done something wrong.

Which file? Boot.ini?

Hi this is the second time this has happened to me I have a dual boot and for some reason I rebooted and it said ntldr missing when I booted up. I tried to repair it but I dont have an emergency disk. I have fixed a boot sector before from the command console by hitting fixmbr then fixboot. This did not work this time. Im am at a loss it is set up just the way I need it I really dont want to reformat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey heres what I did. I reinstalled winMe on my c drive but I did this by formatting c and reinstalling. And win2k is on d. I tried booting off the cd and hitting repair but it couldnt locate the win2k installation. So I went into the command console and hit fixmbr and then fixboot. Genius. ANyways it said "couldnt load ntldr" or something like that. So i reinstalled winMe and I sorta made a repair disk by copying some files from the winnt/repair directory. It seemed to work except after it checked the disk for problems it gave me a bsod and told me to adjust some cache bios settings. I havent tried that yet but will if I cant do this another way. Am I just an idiot if so somebody please help.

Hmm. That bootdisk on the cd isnt like an ordinary dos disk. First of all their are four of them and it is equivilent to booting off the cd. So if you can boot off the cd there is no point in making them. Secondly once you boot up ( either off the floppies you made or your cd ) you need to go into the repair console. So you would hit repair win2k installation and the hit c for recovery console. In there there is a few doslike command-line tools to help you move files read, edit files etc. Good luck. Dont fubar your system.
